Alienware m17x General information

Aww lucky !!!
They only sell those heart shaped ones near where I live with nothing in them.. What if it deflates before the m17x arrives ?

lol i hope it doesn't. i was lucky enough to find one that was in a circular shape. its one of those ones you give to people expecting a baby...except i whited out the 'boy' part of 'its a boy!" and instead replaced it with m17x so now it reads "its a m17x!". parents are creeped out since they thought it was for a friend.

If by the time it deflates, they haven't released the m17x.. Would you buy another one or get the m15x.. That's the $1 question we need answered

I hope this is true RanT., but can you PLEASE answer this? First of all, are you really telling the truth? Second of all, did your friend really work for Alienware? Could you also tell me if he mentioned any price estimate?

Update on balloon- so far its still hangin in there. no visible sign of deflation.

and indeed i named the balloon....its one of those ones that you give to people who are about to have a baby (it says "its a boy!") however, with my super cleverness i have changed (used whiteout) the boy to "m17x" so now it reads "It's a m17x!". creepy? yes. weird? definitely. necessary? yes.

hmmm...could it possibly be????? i shouldn't get my hopes up...but im awake til 4am so any good news and im poppin the balloon. parents and everyone else are sleeping and they just returned from a party so im guessing they're enjoying their sleep and will probably stab me if i make so much as a pin drop. but im willing to make that sacrifice...

 

Hehe.. Good on you then.. Maybe you should try this magic trick - Put a piece of tape on the balloon and pierce it through the tape so it won't pop but slowly deflate
AW should be forthcoming to customers like us dedicated souls, don't you think ?
They've been hiding behind their "try again in a few seconds" for over 1½ hrs !!

 

m17x is big news so i want a big pop too. and yes they should be forthcoming to dedicated (or fanatical in my case i suppose, seeing as no one else mutated a pregnancy balloon) customers like us.

I was thinking of using a macro to do that for me.. But couldn't figure out how to do it or if it would work..

@Wraithers- there's a first time for everything..lol. and its helium so it'd be hard to burst it..and im wearing socks and the balloon is round. if i slip im going to crash on my desk, and break something, along with myself.

hmm i do have a dart and board thingy but its the magnetic type. i wanted the metal pointed ones buy parents thought that giving me sharp pointed darts was nothing short of destruction of the house. thanks a lot for the link.

Hehe.. I got an actual one in my balcony.. The white paint has got grey holes all around the board where the paint's been chipped.. Not my doing of course
How about heating the balloon with a lamp ? (Ran out of ideas for sharp objects to throw at it )

 

if the balloon were hydrogen i'd give it a go. might do that though, i have a lava lamp i can use.

I have just looked at the UK Dell small business site and the XPS1730 is only available with the X9500 as it's fastest processor.
Maybe with the M17X having the fastest processors, will give them the edge, until the QX9000E is released in notebook format lol

I've read that there's sumours abroad of Alienware waiting for Quad core processors, which won't be released until Q3 at the earliest...

Anyone have any info on the M17X?

The release of the ALX CFX made me cry a little. It might as well have come with a sign saying "NOP KEED NO LAPTOP FOR JOOZ".

I hope it gets released with at least the black color option. I've been refreshing this page for the past 2 weeks and just now decided to register and post.

Based on having actual dimensions of the m15x and m9750, how does everyone think the m17x will compare to two in size?

 

much thinner then the m9750 but a bit thicker then the m15x

 

The m9750 is 1.5" thick and the m15x is 1.3" thick. I doubt it'll be 1.4" thick, it'll probably be between 1.5"-1.6" thick.

Do you think the width and depth will be similar to 9750?
By measurements the 9750 is 1 inch longer and deeper than 15x.
I hope the 17x isn't too thick

I think it's worth the thickness, for dual 8800mGTX. The last thing we would want is another heating fiasco.

 

the m17x should be thick for great cooling purposes because the 8800gtx dissipates a lot of heat.

 

well for someone that carries his laptop every day, its thick. The 9750 was a nice thickness. Its also heavy.
I want a newer version of the 9750.

Dont need the Bling Bling lights on side of screen which is of no use
& we HAVE TO pay for it cos its in there

also like the front loading CD of m9750
which m17x doesnt have & its sleek

I understand 8800 have lot of heat
so hope they do something to fit it in m9750

 

You made that up, Alienware never released the official dimensions of the m17x . The 7950M GTX and the 8800M GTX are the same size cards, and the 8800M GTX uses less power than a 7950M GTX, even though it's double the speed. So we should expect the m17x to be around 1.5" thick.
