    Hey, I feel so cheated!

Anyone pick up the latest issue of Maximum PC? On the CD there's an "Alienware laptop advisor" which is supposed to give you a few tips on picking out what you need in a laptop. It's Alienware-sponsored, of course, and is only a single page, so don't expect too much... but what really got my goat was that it had a picture of the m15x and m17x on it. The m17x in black Ripley.

    It's effing gorgeous.

    Anyone else seen it?

Wow, thanks "Mr F". I must admit although i'ma fan of the Skullcap, that case with the seeming matt black Ripley and green looks great...

It oes look a little thicker than the M15X but, did anyone else notice that the picture seems different from the first images of the M17X from the November, it's not glossy, different shape etc.

    OB

Scratch that, it's just matt black, i looked at the original pictures.

Here is a little more hope for those of us waiting for the m17x that it will be worth it in the end. The following is an email thread with AW Sales, although it does not provide any more specific answers it indicates that the delay will be worth the wait.

    Dear Sales team,
I am trying to decide whether to buy a Dell M1730, a Sager 9262 or an M17x. I need to place an order in the next three weeks (before Mar 21) but have not seen any information on the availability of the m17x. Since I'm sure you won't be able to give me any specifics about a release date. I was hoping you could at least tell me whether to wait in placing my order.

    Thank you for contacting Alienware.

Thank you for your interest in our new system. At this time we do not have a definite launch date but as soon as we do, you can be assured that we will update our website to keep all our customers advised. If you would like to be kept up to date on the launch of this and all our systems then I can sign you up for our newsletter or you can register yourself online.

    Best regards,
    Milton Sanchez
    Electronic Support - Sales Department

    Blah blah blah....

    Milton,
Thank you for the reply, I am disappointed that AW announced this product 4 months ago with a 1st quarter availability and has not followed up on that promise. At this point I will wait for my deadline at which time I will have no choice but to order a competitor's product. I know of many potential customers many of whom have already chosen another product due to the lack of any information. It seems in AW's best interest to be honest with their clientele and provide updated information regarding their announcements.

Believe me when I say that we appreciate you taking us into account and your great interest in this system for your next purchase, but, unfortunately, we do not have any other information regarding the release date of this system.

While we meant to launch the m17x along with our m15x, we have not been able to do so as of yet. One of the reasons is that we are currently considering a few more and better configuration possibilities for this system before its launch.

We are aware that the wait has been long, but we are certain that the wait will be worth it and that our users will be quite satisfied with the final product offered.

Please rest assured that as soon as it is available, it will be on our website as well.

If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best regards,

    Milton Sanchez
    Electronic Support - Sales Department

As I said nothing specific but hopefully worth the wait..

Judging from the NY event last year, Alienware overhauled the case to make it thinner and more attractive than the MaximumPC ad.

I do not see a purpose to releasing the m15x and m17x at the same time. The sales of the m15x would be miniscule (either I'm spelling that wrong or it is not in the dictionary file :p). So this gives more hope to AW actually releasing it. When? Who knows, but I say we all try and talk to different employees and get all the information we can. If anyone else is able to get info directly from AW employees please post it so we can all share the knowledge.

Hey wait a min, I thought the m17x was "supposed" to be running dual nvidia 8800gtx's in sli, but on http://www.alienware.com/ad_landing_...ource=PRAD0085, only a single nvidia is mentioned.
That's half the reason I've been SOOOOO... patient (that and the fact that they're supposed to be toggable, If they're only putting in one then "Rock's"
X770-X9000-8800 is equally as good and I can order it right now as opposed to waiting on Alienware (this laptop was announced in November--- Should have been in my hands before december - 4 months + is ridiculous)

I was talking to one of the tech support agents who use to be in sales. after talking for about 45mins about pure doodoo lol I asked him about M17x. he said that, they were given training on it at the same time as M15x. They had both laptops disassembled and taken apart for training. He said that the 17x they had was in beta.

He said it is Sli, but it might use the same video driver as m15x, unless they release a new one before that.

I asked him about the release date, and he said they wont release it because they've already got one 17" which they are selling right now. he assured me its their marketing strategy. They will release the 17x when the M9750 is taken down. And He said he doesn't have any dates of when they might stop selling the m9750 and start selling the 17x

Also said that, in the starting 17x might be only available in one color like the 15x.

seems like alot of leading around and not alot of fact. Does make sense for them to wait for 9750 stock to run out before releasing the new beast, what if they are holding off cause of nv new offering in hope of releasing the 17x with nv GF9m series? we'll probably see a mobile form NV around mid summer. kids buying new stuff for school/college etc vs retails slow months after xmass jan/feb/mar.

    Just a thought

Doesn't the m1730 have dual 8800gtx and a x9000 (And it's definitely overclockable) Hope the m17x comes out with some VERY nice extra features,
If you compare the two (well the rumoured m17x) all it currently appears to have (above the 1730) is toggable graphics and look well.. gorgeous.
Hmm.. think I wan't it too much!! (heard some people saying ordering dell is like playing the lottery (y'no parts!!) but then dell's customer service isn't getting pooooor reviews (least I don't think so anyway)

The parts lottery is true, there are three possible screens you can get, from bad to great but, you can't choose and it depends where you are to what spec you can have.

I'm in the Uk and the spec is not good, yet...

Yeah! By June I'll have enough to get de HD screen with x9000 an dual 8800gtx... What else can I ask for!? lol! .. I cant wait to get it.... I know the CS in AW is quite poor, but hell I've been thinking almost for 4 months and researching adn studying AND I'm sure that the best is:

    M17X > Sager NP9262 > XPS M1730

Only if some miracle happens and the M17X wont be delivered by this year then I'll go for the sager and then for the xps

That Sager uses a desktop chip, rather than a mobile processor. Did you guys realize Alienware's SLI 17" notebook is 1.5" thick and 9 pounds while theirs is 2.35" thick and weights 11-12 pounds? You need a better cooling system to manage the quad core processor, which will mean a bigger chasis is required, and it'll use up a lot more battery so you have little to no battery life. Intel is coming out with a mobile quad-core processor by the third quarter of this year, but if you really want a quad-core processor, get a desktop. Notebooks will always be behind in terms of faster and better hardware.

well, you are right Michale... Even though the mobile processors are not that far in terms of speed performance against desktop procesors, acording to tomshardware graphics.... Also, even if the m17x is a hard thing to carry around its doesnt mean that it isn't portable at all, with a good bagpack you can still carry it in special ocassions... I mean if your meant not to carry ever the m17x then I dont know what's the point of getting one, the desktop would be the best option then...

Personally i think the only way to get mobility and quad-core is when Montevina is released and the quad-Penryns, that way youll benefit from the power saing features of the new chip-set and have a mobile machine to boot.

Using desktop components is not new, AW atarted it many years ago with the P4... It dies call for more power and cooling though, which means a heavy and power hungry "mobile" notebook lol

So is it better to wait for the Quad laptops
or the m17x will be upgradable
or will they come out with a New m18x or something ?

NVM, I jus read it in wiki.... that montevina platform is promising.. lol maybe i will wait until this platform is addapted to the M15x or the m17x... and i will keep wating and waiting... to much new technology to be launched on the comings months... It makes me the impression that the one's who got the m15x in the fisrt months is now obsolete, jeez!

Couldn't wait any longer, the lack of information and uncertainty is so poor, so have spent my £3000 on an SL8 at Rock:

I wonder how many other orders Alienware are losing as a result the poor information, say at least 4 a day at almost 100 days at £2500min a laptop = a big turnover and huge profit - I wonder what the finance directors would have to say if they read these forums!
