Why is it that dell & rock etc can run 2x 8800's in their systems but alienware can't? I've been waiting 4 months as well...........you're right , thats 100's of 1000's of dollars.

The m17x will definitely be out by/sometime next week. Alienware just got rid of all its' 7950M GTX stock, so now that a good amount of Alienware's older components are gone they'll only keep selling the M9750 for a little while longer.

    I AGREE
& they Never do what they say m17x was to be out Q1
Oh well i hope it wont be till Q3 :(
    that will suck big time
Even if they release till June its like Q3
Then after release ALL the issues that will be there
it will be better to wait & get it after a month
    like the 15x

$1800 maybe. Alienware couldn't make the 17" version of the m15x more than $300-$400 more, but then again they're Alienware so they might. They'll probably start off with SLI 8700M GTs default and a 2.4GHz or a 2.5GHz processor for $2200-$2400 (same starting price as M1730, though the m17x will probably have better specs) when it comes out.

this is speculation but im guessing they ran out and wont be ordering anymore 7950's for the m9750 so they will hold it for a little longer try and squeeze a few more sales outta it. but now that the 7950's are not offered imo its a dead weight. i am expecting the m17x soon

This is exactly why I punted on waiting on the m17x in February...I really feel for those who are waiting and especially those who have been waiting since the November "launch"...This is just an example of how frustrating it can be...just a few posts ago, one person posts a reasonable guess that the m17x may not be far from release, only to be followed shortly by another person posting opposite information. I don't know who, if anyone, is right. I just know I got my hopes up too many times before giving up and moving on. Personally, I remain convinced its not going to be released until it can be equipped with Montevenia.

I just spoke to Alienware sales from the UK and the guy told me 2 weeks for definite, i.e. the end of April and then a 6 week lead time for delivery.

Apparently (off the record) they have had trouble with suppliers.

Also, take a look at the US site and post a question to the company's executives, something along the lines of "Where's the m17x"...the more posts....the more reason for them to answer the question....though you have to lie and say you're from the US because you can't choose a european country from the drop down menu!!!

    But :D..

    Do you read the forum?
It's the 1000th time that we have to wait for 2 more weeks.
And it's the 900th time somebody like me answer what I say now.

I think it's a type answer for this question : "Wait two weeks.."

Let's see on the 29 April on the "Alien Network".

    Oodle-bear, shame on you!
"Let's hope that the guys from the UK (Ireland) are telling the truth"
Ireland is NOT part of the UK!!

Just thinking, if Montevina is only available in July at earliest, I assume that laptop manufacturers from then on only, start designing around it (right? - like they don't have text exaples now to play with?)

So Alienware couldn't currently have the m17x design built around it (right?)
Thus they're either (1) only going to start designing the motherboard bits and pieces then and there (hence probably a release date near september or something)
Or (2) they've all that stuff currently designed aroung the 965 chipset and are just waiting for their release date to arrive.

Hence if the laptop is going to be built around the 965 (if april release date)
Do you really want a very expensive laptop with the older chipset?

Like if it'd been put on sale last November then it would've been top of the game for a relatively long period, but if it only comes out end of April/May, then its not going to have much of a headstart over the newer laptops which will be designed around the new chipset.

Firstly, UK includes Northern Ireland and i put it as that's where AW UK is based, same as Dell, strangely enough lol

I agree with you on both parts. Personally i think, if they are going to release the M17X with Monty, then they will have desgned it for it already, i'm thinking that they would have some sort of blue-print or something from Intel, same as Sager have designed there new machine around it.

If AW haven't used Monty and are using Santa-Rosa then i'm not sure if i will wait or not. To be honest i'm not sure there will be any new machines for at least a year after M17X has been released...

At the moment i'm using my work laptop, which is C**p, can't play any new games adn the old ones (Far Cry) kill it on Low grrr argh!!!

I need and want a new notebook but also don't want a new - old one at the same time...

Its always goin to be a new - old one
cos the most its going to be New is 6 months
& as soon as any Laptop is for release,
we are tolled a new one wil be out in 1 month
& then it takes 6 months to be out

Hope they stop lieing & give Honest release dates
WHY LIE ??? ( its not makin a good name for the comp )

    Here Here (",)

I guess we find out April 29th, unless they cancel the announcement lol

I must admit, i don't mind if it's not relased until June, i just want to know it IS going to be relased and roughly what it will be, spec wise.

Yeah it really is a pain not knowing.
I don't have to have paid for mine, till round late June/July,
but I'm doing a course then where I have to have the laptop in my hands then and there - don't have an unlimited timeline.
So if you factor in the waiting period most people seem to be having with the m15x (let's say a month of a wait) It means I have to order by end April/ June which means I'm kind of screwed (either it won't be out, won't have all the options or I'm probably going to be dealing with the "teething" problems)
Why do I see myself buying a dell m1730?????

Alienware isn't based up the north, its EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) headquarters is in Athlone, Westmeath which is in the Republic of Ireland not in Northern Ireland.

well if you want to wait for _that_ best go into deepsleep for a year or so. beyond that, the GPU should be upgradable already, montevina might not even be available for both m15x and m17x.

As I mentioned before though, it will come in third place if the X9000 can't be overclocked (below the overclockable M1730 and the desktop CPU-based Clevos)

Yea, it's the deal breaker. But, the m17x makes it up with Smartbay capabilities and AlienFX (flashy lights...well the m1730 also has flashy lights.
And the overall awesome look of the m17x wins.

But its much costlier and servcie is inferior to places such as DEll XPS and Xoticpc. Also, Smartbay is not a revolutionary thing for a 17inch notebook. The 9262 can have 3HDDs.....

    >.> not many people would buy either of those notebooks just for more HDD room. The big selling point of the smartbay for most people is the battery life. Witch the m17x is gonna beat all other laptops in its class.
