Yes, that could be a security concern. Even if it were not, it's still a bloatware concern. There is no valid reason for that software as it relates to the singular purpose of playing the game. The amount of trash software geared toward social media is starting to become disgusting. Stuff like this makes me want to take special steps to avoid social media instead of becoming more engaged, and I think that's the exact opposite of the response they are hoping to achieve.

Here I scroll through many of the settings available at this time in the pre-Alpha phase, build 480. This is still very early in the project and some settings may be removed, added or expanded.
Then I run a couple minutes in one of the better cars for this in car view through California Highway reverse. As always, I like heavy clouds and the sun in my eyes to bring some depth & realism, then it flows into a foggy day.

Nice video buddy. Man I'm going to be all over this game once it's released. I'm tempted to jump on board now. PC is dying for a proper driving sim.

Hey guys, i have a question. I have an M17xr4 with 7970m graphics. I only seem to notice this problem when I am switched into "discrete graphics mode" where the Intel HD 4000 is disabled but i have not extensively tested it in switchable graphics mode. This has become more of a common issue lately it seems.

The problem is: I put my computer to sleep every night, the next day when i go to play a game, My GPU stays downclocked at 450mhz instead of its max 850mhz leading to very poor performance in games, and i verified this down-clocking with HWinfo and MSI afterburner OSD. Once i reboot, the problem goes away and the GPU goes back up to 850mhz

Other parameters: Nothing overclocked in my system, running windows 7 professional, system is left plugged in the majority of the time, i run to an external monitor at 1920x1080 which the computer is connected to during sleeping and waking, I am running catalyst 13.4 which i believe is the newest beta drivers.

    Any thoughts?

Hey foam, hardly a tech support thread you picked here, but I do have a thought for you.

In my experience, the 450MHz clock is related to an external monitor, otherwise your 2D downclock would be 300MHz. I would think that your troubleshooting would have involved removing the external monitor from the list of possibilities. If you haven't, do so, I bet it's involved due to the 450 clock. Also, unless you're trying to save a workload in progress, I never understood the desire to put a pc to sleep when it can simply be turned off. I'm firmly in the camp that not doing something that's supposed to work isn't the fix, but it's another free thought and "sleep mode" is known to throw a user a curve ball now and then :)

13.4 is the newest whql driver, there are a couple newer beta's, but like mine, they really don't have anything to do with your machine.

Welcome to the forum! If it is the external monitor, great, if not you would have better luck getting help in a more appropriate technical or your own thread.

Hey Dumb, not sure what you mean by invite, but I always hear a rumor or two about opening up for more pre-Alphers. All I can say is keep an eye out, it doesn't take much $ to get in on the monthly release (junior) and the cost is applied to the game release. Good luck.

Thanks! the only reason i have not removed the external monitor from the equation is because i always use it that way. I will definitely give it a shot though. Usually i do have work in progress which is why i sleep the computer, also though it sounds silly while i have it docked beside my desk and the screen is closed, it is a bit of a pain to open the screen and press the boot button then close the screen again LOL. Much easier to wake via my external mouse and keyboard, but it looks as if i might have to choose between the either not using the monitor or shutting down the computer each time.

Any other things you have found in your experience? Like a way to force the GPU to go back up? Maybe a benchmark or something? I feel like one time i had this issue (before i was using MSI afterburner to verify the downclock) and playing a certain game fixed it for the other games. Just food for thought.

Thanks for your help and i apologize if this is the wrong thread to post it in, do you know where a popular M17xr4 tech support thread might be?

If going to sleep while the ext mon connected is causing a glitch, you could just unplug the mon before you go to sleep and then reconnect once you come out of sleep. I hot swap the connection sometimes, never had an issue.
One never knows what may unglitch a glitch, forcing it doesn't make sense to me, the clocks are either going to adjust properly for the app or they're not.
No apology needed, it's only about posting in a place that gets you the best exposure to the user community for help. If you don't have the need for your own specific thread, the M17x Owners Lounge is where you should be.

Sure does, go heavy with physics boys, that's going to push the limits. I didn't realise how big the BF3 thing was until the latest NV driver debacle - this is going to make a fortune!!!

The harder they push the physics, the more lame consoles will look compared to PC... even the new ones. It's nice to see, since the console game ports have been so graphically dumbed down to accommodate the lowest common denominator in gaming.

Agree, the authors are seeing the writing on the wall as more and more console users are looking at gaming laptops as a valid (and far better) alternative. I think it ties in with dell strategy with the new models and their intended market as well.

We are the future - still!

Man oh man ! BF4 looks epic. I wasn't too excited about this title until I just watched that video.
That's going to need some serious power to run well I think.

I really like the BF series, but I haven't been wildly crazy about it. But, I agree... this video makes me want it right now, ha ha. :D

I think 680M SLI will run it fine, and 780M SLI should run it even better. Something less might have to work hard to keep up. Will have to see when it is released. It is difficult to tell in a YouTube video, but that seems like it is going to be awesome graphics detail. It looks really fantastic in spite of being a YouTube video.

Yeah I loved 1942, probably still my favourite.
I can't believe how much physics is going on,
I'm sure it's going to be CPU hungry too. BF3 was pretty economical though, so I hope it's a similar case here.

Consoles for gamers are the equivalent of mobile homes for homeowners. Better than nothing, but not the greatest option.

Not that I have anything against consoles perce'. I just cant stand games running less than 60fps, which happens to be most console games. Consoles will never drop detail to achieve 60fps because comparison screen shots is what sells games to fanboys and fuels the MS vs Sony fanboy hyperbole.
I also don't like paying to play online, or paying $60-$100 (yes $100 if you're from Australia) for a game. I'd rather put that money into quality hardware that's up to the task.

Yea, friends who only game on consoles are always amazed at how good the same games look when played on PC. Only reason I bother with consoles these days is for the occasional exclusive, particularly Sony/Naughty Dog. Anything else I just buy on PC for half the price or less during Steam sales. Hell, it's easy enough to hook up an XBox controller to a PC and run that into a big screen if you insist on a console like experience. Though I have no idea why anyone would use a controller over a mouse/keyboard.

Yeah that's it. I actually own a PS3/Xbox but they literally never get used, ill probably give them away soon or try and flush them down the toilet :D J/king . 95% of the time ill run my AW through my living room TV, I also sit a wireless 360 pad next to a wireless K/M and use the pad for almost everything except when I play competitive online FPS games like BF3.

Hopefully, more gamers on a tight budget will get converted from console to PC with the X51 R2. While it won't win any benchmark contests, for measly $699 it is WAY better than a console. Also a better option (in my view) than a low spec "gaming" laptop that requires a low res LCD (under 1080p) and medium or lower settings for decent FPS.

That's an awesome BF4 video Brother Throbin. I enjoyed it, bud.

Are you still going to do an Outlast video for us?

Have any of you guys tried one of these yet? I am thinking about getting one and wondered if there was any feedback on it from our community.

Live Gamer Portable (C875) | AVerMedia

Here is the PC Mag review. It looks pretty good, but I do not put a great deal of stock in reviews. It seems like a really versatile device. I am interested in it for a number of reasons, not the least of which is capturing game footage at full frame rate. If it captures directly from the desktop, it would also be good for tutorial videos.

Edit: found this YouTube video and now I think I am going to buy it. Got a NewEgg Shell Shocker email where it is available for $99 after $40 MIR.

Too bad YouTube butchers the video quality so bad. This new ShadowPlay software has no discernible effect on framerate with 780M SLI. The FPS recording seems to be the same as when I am not recording based on the information from FRAPS. I think you will like the ending to this video... cool effect with morphing the alien head color.

This is the performance without recording, and if you look at the video it is basically the same.

No video footage looks better after YouTube is done messing it up. ;)

I received this game for free. The graphics are not all that amazing and it should run fairly well on wimpy computers. But, it's loads of silly fun, along with some great sounding metal. Excellent as lighthearted entertainment...gotta love Jack Black in almost anything.

So is shadowplay the best recording service?

I like ShadowPlay a lot better than MSI Afterburner or FRAPS. It does a really nice job of recording and the hit on framerate is far less. In fact, it is almost non-existent with 780M SLI, but YMMV. I see some laptops with one less powerful GPU are still taking a hit on framerate using ShadowPlay. That may be unavoidable without an untapped surplus of GPU power. Ultimately, I would still prefer a hardware solution like this...

Unfortunately, I missed grabbing this on sale, so I am waiting for the price to drop again.

Recorded a few minutes of my very first session with Shadow Warrior. The vulgar language is obnoxious and unnecessary, but the sarcasm and one-liners are otherwise really funny. One of the things I like most about it is there is no heavy story-line to get in the way of the action, and there is more action than plot. It appears that the cut scenes are easily skipped, so that is a big plus. I let them run on my first pass, but after that it's nice to never have to watch them again.
