Crazy good temps pin those 780's Mr. Fox.. Well on the CPU also. I should flash my 780's so i can get the temps down some from.. Maybe that will help? Mine don't run to hot but man I would love the 60's.. my max is 74-75. I think those were playing on my 1440p monitor though, might make them heat up a little more.. Ugh, I might repast now hahaha.

Nice gameplay vids going on here fellas. BF4 looks fun. I've had it for sometime but I'm always reluctant to play death match after a long day at work with hopped up teenagers handing me my a$$ when all I want is a more relaxed session. Hence I might give the campaign a play
It takes too much work for me to kick but in multiplayer. I can't have any distractions (almost impossible these days) and I also like some caffeine coursing through my veinsMr. Fox likes this. -

Nice, plan on buy Assasins Creed later on when it goes down a bit.
Here we go with some Loadout, Free to play game that was released some weeks ago. Really fun and they really made a good Free to play game, without any pay to win!

Dang, glad I did not pay for Titanfall. I got into the beta and while it is lots of fun to play the coding is a piece of crap. Hopefully, they will make this better before people start buying it. I would not be happy paying $60 for this. If, in fact, I decide to purchase this it will need to be around $20. Still don't like the fact that it is online only, with no campaign mode.

Well, I am assuming my system is patched to the latest since it was just freshly downloaded. If you do not measure anything and run with default settings it seems like everything is A-OK. It is not until you start poking around behind the scenes that the game looks more like a piece of crap. For the average gamer that does not do anything but launch and run, it might be good. It seems obvious to me that it's another poorly coded work from EA/Origin. It has many of the issues that BF4 did without a ton of tweaking to make it work better. I am also still miffed about no campaign. If their servers do not perform well it is going to suck, and there is something that always strikes me as a rip-off when I cannot play a game offline in campaign mode. It's good in beta in that regard, but they don't have much user overhead... yet.
If you run it on one GPU it is pretty smooth and looks great. It does not use SLI or CF correctly. Using default settings the second GPU is not utilized at all. Forcing alternate frame rendering 2 let's both GPUs run at 50% utilization and the frame rate is pretty much capped to 60 FPS. It is smooth, but I hate it when games limit FPS. You can partially circumvent the frame rate cap by enabling v-sync in NVIDIA Control Panel and disabling it in the game, but that causes severe artifacts, screen tearing and display jitters. I am uploading a video to show the issues and will post it here. You will see examples of both ways in the video when the upload is finished. This is not passing judgment... just observations of what the issues are right now. Release day is coming up real soon, so we will see if they addressed these issues. I'll be holding off on purchasing until I can snag it for the $20-$25 price point because I don't think it is worth paying any more than that. It has potential to be one of my favorites if they fix all of the issues.
Edit: Here's the video showing the issues...

I'm not sure what you mean. I do run Afterburner and monitoring tools, and I'm not really having problems. That said, I'm running without SLI for now. I know it isn't optimal, but SLI probably won't work very well until after the game launches. This seems typical for games released these days. Here is a workaround I found awhile ago, but haven't tried: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/690643/sli/titanfall-sli-profile-for-the-beta-/ The reason they opened up the BETA was to stress the servers, and they have buckled some. However, there will be more at launch.
As far as frame-rate, it appears to lock to your monitor's refresh rate. I've heard mixed things. I just think we're jumping the gun by calling the BETA a poorly coded mess. BETA is BETA after all (although this looks like a glorified demo, LOL). I want to see what release code will be like, with proper SLI profiles.
All of that aside, is Battlefield 4 finally playable?Mr. Fox likes this. -
Another titan fall gameplay video <3Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015Mr. Fox and Optimistic Prime like this. -
What I meant by that is if I had not run monitoring tools, being the OCD person that I am, I never would have known things were less than peachy. Yes, the game plays absolutely fine... with all settings totally maxed out it is as smooth as glass and doesn't miss a beat, but it's not optimal. Using the tweak to enable v-sync in NVCP and disable v-sync in-game, as I showed in the video, mostly defeats the locked frame rate nonsense. But, doing so creates issues that don't exist leaving the frame rate locked down. Skyrim has a similar issue that has never been fixed. 680M SLI, 7970M CF and 780M SLI all require v-sync to be enabled for me (580M SLI did not, funny enough) or I get the same kind of artifacts and twitchiness as we see here in Titanfall, only worse to the point of Skyrim being unplayable with v-sync disabled.
I tried using NVIDIA Inspector to add the Titanfall.exe to the Bioshock Infinite profile. That did not work well at all, so I removed it from that profile, and then tried adding it to the COD: Ghosts profile with exactly the same result. Neither trick works as well as creating my own profile in NVIDIA Control Panel and setting it to "Force alternate frame rendering 2" for SLI. It works, just the GPU utilization is way too low. I guess with the locked down FPS it doesn't matter since you're never going to get more than your refresh rate unless they fix that problem before launch or shortly thereafter. With one GPU, two GPUs, or more, if all you're going to get is a frame rate equal to the refresh rate the extra horsepower that is on tap is never utilized. Titanfall plays identical for me with SLI disable or enabled, with the only difference being one GPU runs between 90% and 100% utilization and gets warmer than two GPUs sharing the load and plodding along with a light load of 50% each, LOL.
I saw the screen shot in that thread you posted and that person is only getting 38% GPU utilization with SLI, so I suppose I should be happy with 50-60%.Optimistic Prime likes this. -

I would like to know why more games are capping the FPS at the refresh rate of the monitor. Although, it is worth noting that any frames past 60 won't be displayed on a 60Hz panel.
As far as how it plays.. You were having the same problems with SLI disabled? Hm, mine performed better with SLI disabled. I haven't bothered messing around with profiles for the BETA. I guess we'll just have to see how it winds up after we get release code and perhaps a proper driver.
As far as pricing goes.. I'm still of the opinion a digital copy of a game shouldn't cost as much as a physical retail copy. No one has to produce the thing, get it to the store (further, on the shelf), and it doesn't take up any real-estate on store shelves. These discounts often don't get passed down to the consumer, as far as I can tell. Not to mention, you can't sell it and eventually it could just "vanish" into the ether.Mr. Fox likes this. -
I think the capping might have something to do with the growing commonality of anemic hardware being passed off as something special to consumers. It probably also has something to do with laziness on the part of developers and taking shortcuts to port console games to PC with the least amount of effort possible. You don't need to see the FPS above 60 in order for the smoothness of the game to be improved. If your FPS are 80 to 100 or even higher, you are not as likely to see the FPS dips and dives that sometimes goes with the territory of getting by with a single GPU that is being pushed harder to maintain 60 FPS. I also find it gratifying to see the extreme hardware in action, totally shredding the game like a rag doll with insane frame rates even though it does not alter the appearance of the game.
I think we are probably going to continue to be shafted with higher prices for digital distribution versus physical distribution as long as people are willing to pay asinine prices for downloads. I agree with the reasons it should be cheaper that buying a boxed copy, but they can get away with it... so they do. Having said that, I actually prefer that over buying a boxed copy because it is more convenience, tied to my account and portable, plus I don't have to feed CD/DVD disks into my system to play games. I always hated that and still clearly remember what it was like forging my way through malware infested web sites looking for NOCD/NODVD exe cracks so I could leave my legally acquired game disks in the box. Since I am a cheapskate and normally don't pay more than $20-$25 for any game, it does not affect me much.Optimistic Prime likes this. -
Optimistic Prime Notebook Evangelist
That is true. So far I haven't had the game really dip below 60. I may not have noticed though, as I've been having a lot of fun with it. One thing I've been enjoying so much is the asymmetrical warfare. There's so many ways to harass the titans as a pilot.
Ah, yeah that makes more sense. After testing games awhile I tend to drop the overlays and just play. This actually reminds me of a recent problem with Need For Speed: Rivals where they locked the speed of the game to the FPS. It's pretty funny, LOL.

I think all of the NFS games have the same locked 30 FPS baloney. I really hate that aspect of them. This is one of the reasons I was ticked to see this taking place with Titanfall.
-
-
But its locked to refresh rate of monitor/screen, what I think Mr. Fox meant was that it was locked to a set FPS.
I dont really mind the whole locking FPS, as long as its at least 60FPS. I tend to try if possible to run games around 60-80 anyway because then the computer doesnt need to work all that hard and it will make less noiseTBoneSan likes this. -
Yeah locked frame rate infuriates me. It's not like it's hard for developers to add a toggle option and keep everyone happy. I've just jumped through hoops to unlock La Noire from a stupidly unplayable 30fps. Dam good game by the way. It's like an old point and click game crossed with GTA's open world. I'll post up a video soon.

Unless you like it, then it's totally awesome. Some folks only like FPS, some like strategy games, some MMORPG, some like RPG and some like them all. I'm definitely a no-plot/all action run and gun FPS fan and most games that are given big props for having good plots and interesting storylines simply bore me to tears... rather watch a movie if I want a plot or complicated story, LOL.

^ I have to call out seriously unrealistic on this Thief game. When that guard turned around at 0:35, he was close enough with plenty of light (especially behind you where it counts a lot) to see you squatting there and then scramble for cover. He should have been able to see you peeking out from your cover as he walked by. Then the game has the gall to let you pick pocket him. The only way I can accept this is if you had some invisibility cloak (did you, I don't play the game), and if there is such a cloak, how can the game be a challenge.
Just observations from a gamer, no need to pile on me. -
There is no invisibility cloak, though Thief games in general have all had their share of supernatural. When the guard turned around, he did "notice" me. There came a small eye symbol above his head, which basically mean that he saw something but probably thought nothing of it.
Thats how I see it anywayA little fantasy from my part and all games make more sense

Did a Next Car Game vid myself. I like to use cockpit view until I can't see, then switch to bonnet. I've included all 4 race types (Derby, Figure 8, Gravel & Tarmac). Had a hard time hitting people towards the end of Derby, Figure 8 was very entertaining with all the close calls and hits. Gravel and Tarmac, I was a bulldozer sending many cars into the right side walls. BugBear has got a winner here I think and I know the UK is going to love it.
The screen recorder cuts FPS and GPU usage almost by half. Highest settings (NoAA) yields high 40's to mid 50's with solid gpu usage in 90%'s.

With all the videos you do you should really think about switching to a nVidia card for non other than shadowplay. It's about a 10-15 hit for 1080p 60fps recording.

Thanks for the tip TBone, but the huge loss in this example is an anomaly imo. AB was doing well for me with a 5-15% FPS hit over the past couple years (been a while since I did a vid), this loss likely has something to do with the game and the fact I'm still running v2.3.1 instead of betas. I'll probably do a retest of a past game performance to see if it's changed.

Steam wants $30 for NCG and I would always consider that a fair price for such a game, maybe even cheap. MP is where the most fun is with these games, as long as you don't care about winning
since you have such little control of starting madness.
I look forward to you getting it so we can cause some mayhem. I met so many from the UK during the Flatout series, you guys/gals just love your rally and derby's -

the 780m is really handling many games very well: though i am running some at 1080p and some at 900p and i don't really notice the difference on a 17.3" display.

I'm not sure if it has been posted, but there has been some great news from Nvidia this month. It looks like ShadowPlay and GameStream will be officially supported on mobile GPUs around the end of the month. Also, the Shield is on sale at $200 (not exactly a fire sale) which will be updated with Android 4.4 at the same time. It looks like the update will include several enhancements for those interested. I may pick one up for around the house.
"GeForce GTX 800M and GTX 700M GPUs support ShadowPlay, as do the GeForce GTX 680M, GTX 675MX, GTX 670MX and GTX 660M."

i hope so cos i have to run bf4 at 900p with the internal resolution scale set to 90% (on high settings) in order to get it within the 50-60fps mark with adaptive vsync on just to make single player playable. 900p still looks good though i think that's the lowest i'll go for display resolutions. i have games like titanfall and bioshock infinite running at 1080p with less issues at high settings.
-
what's encoding specs are people using for their vids?
Rather that see what FPS I get when setting to 1080p on ultra (which is A LOT of videos here on YouTube) and see if it's playable, I'll do something different.
So instead I'll do a video where I try and get the game to be within 50-60fps @ 1080p on an Alienware 17 with an Nvidia GTX 780M 4gb mobile GPU.
Since the GTX 780M isn't as powerful as its desktop equivalent it still packs a punch and so here are my settings for both the game and GPU.
Nvidia GTX 780M
GPU with +79MHz OC (850MHz / 876MHz / 928MHz)
Memory with +100MHz OC (5200MHz)
stock VBIOS
Battlefield 4
Fullscreen Resolution - 1920x1080
Fullscreen Mode - Fullscreen
Brightness - 50%
Vertical Sync - Off (using Nvidia's Adaptive V-Sync)
Field of View - 90
Field of View Scalig in ADS - On
Motion Blur Amount - 50%
Weapon DOF - On
Colorblind - Off (On if you're colourblind)
Hud Size - 50%
Resolution Scale - 90%
Texture Quality - Ultra
Texture Filtering - High
Lighting Quality - High
Effects Quality - Medium
Post Process Quality - Medium
Mesh Quality - High
Terrain Quality - Medium
Terrain Decoration - High
Antialiasing Deferred - Off (i find this really drops the FPS below 50 if on)
Antialiasing Post - Low or Medium
Ambient Occlusion - HBAO
Drivers - Nvidia 337.50 betas
I find that with these settings I can get a consistant 50-60fps and I think that's very playable.
The only place I have seen it drop within the 50-60fps range is in the Baku mission, just as the roof of the building has collapsed and you're sliding down as the building falls apart.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015Mr. Fox likes this. -
ENB mods sure make this old game look a lot better. If you get too carried away with the quality setting, it can really chew up some serious vRAM and drop your FPS.

I did some testing at 2560x1440 with BF4 and then upscaled the YouTube video to 4K and it's pretty decent... YouTube still screwed it up to some extent, but for a YouTube video it looks pretty darned good, I think.
