As requested for M17.. ATI 8.12 Modded w/Full Screen Scaling Enabled

After getting my m17 I installed Vista German (just the "select user name and so on) ... but after a while i decided to change the language to English.
The problem was I didn't use AilenRespawn, I used only the Vista DVD.
So I had to download all drivers from the Aliemware web site.
This was hard work but my 3DMark score increased and my english aswell (I know I am far away from good xD)
Crysis worked ... BF2 ... everything^^
My only problem was, that BF2 and Crysis didn't supported 1280'800 resulution ... so I started to install new drivers ...

I also begin to think that the problem comes from an other aspect...

You know that I am from Germany Far far away But thx for youre will to help me

Hope AW is working @ the moment ... or do I have to expect to wait over a week if I order (buy ) this 7€ DVD?

PS: BF2 is reinstalled in a few minutes ...


Edit: BF2 is working again! And because of having tooo much time ... I will try the installation of this special driver one more time

So I did everything like on page one ... and now ... it works

I am not quit sure why, but e.g. BF2 works ...
... but I still have the old problem with the resolution which now could be fixed by chancing the startingoptions ... so I am happy ...

3DMark is running (hopping to get a minimum of 11k to be happy)

Crysis Wars gave me one time an error one time non better than only a black screen ... after 3DMark I will try install Crysis (non War(head)) again ...

but this does not say, that the standart would perform better in games ...

Nah 8.12 drivers should perform better in games since they have a lot of fixes Good to know you got them working

 

omg^^ same Crysis problem again ... but now I solved it xD I started the 32bit dx9 Version and it's working!

But, I am not quite sure why, this time I sill have the resolution problem
Last time I installed this modded 8.12 I was able to select 1280*800 ...

You should only be able to use the 1280x800 with my driver..not with a mob mod only. Just speculation thats the issue. But, check it out.. you're running a system that should do a lot better than 1280x800 w/ Crysis - so run a bit higher of a res

But as you say ... I am running Crysis -32bit -DX9 => without AA 1440*900 @ high (very high is only DX10) is no problem ...
Edit: Tryed it with all @ very high (DX10) and if I disable AA it runs great

How did you set the resolution 1280*800 ... maybe this date is damaged
I am quite sure that I used youre version ... where can I see it?

I tryed it one more time but this time I tryed the "Installation Method 1 (do it youre self)" ... but no other result ...

Is there a "LCD Displaydriver" (I don't mean graphics) ... I think sb said this could be a reason why it isn't working @ my m17

 

Yeah, 2 is the full mod. Just run setup.exe to install, it uses the modded inf and everything is ready to go. I'm considering removing method one to prevent confusion. But yes, 2 should support most resolutions. Not sure off top of my head if 1280.800 is one of them, but should be. And glad you stepped it up a notch

 

Oh.. If you go to device manager and check display adapters you will find the cards installed. Right click one and select properties. Then under the description, the provider will be obvious if you're running my driver mod or not. I'm sure ya are tho check and lemme know what you find.

nice find lemme see if I can add 1280x800 - brb - finally at my puter.

 

ok..try downloading this and use have disk method to install just the .inf - replace the .inf in your ATI folder, then update driver using have disk method and let me know if it works for ya.

After i reading some forums there have some other guys with other ATI Boards the same Problem with code 43 http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=7009333&posted=1#post7009333 it is german but the 8.12 is no driver i use i wait for the next one

 

Next one should be out in like 20 days, not that far

OK I used this file insted of the other on the first page and did everything like it's said there^^ But still ... not in Windows ... not in Crysis ... not in BF2 (there I solved the problem wich the start options)...

Isn't it posslibe, that I realy need an other "Displaydriver" or does the m17 not have such a driver for its display?

Maybe I should wait untill the Respawn DVD is here^^ Than reinstall vista und install your driver ... the problem is ... once I was playing with 1280*800 Crysis ... but I can not remembar with witch version and if it was befor I reinstalled Vista^^

julian, if you want the 1280x800 resolution, you can always download a different driver.

This one is for Vista 64bit and will work fine, but some newer games like FC2 may have issues with crossfire. I believe this is the 8.10 Cat package.. may be the 8.8 - either way it will provide everything you're looking for, except you may sacrafice a little performance.

This one is also 64bit, and should work as well. Maybe with a little better performance. both are official WHQL drivers for the 3870s. No modding necessary

Okay, before I did all this, the resolutions I was able to go through was pretty much the same as after I installed this mod. It didn't do anything that really helped and it did decrease my score to 11,134. No offense, but I believe the m17 that are coming out right now, already are capable of using the resolutions that this was said to fix. So either I did something wrong or it really doesn't benefit me in any way. Also, during the process, when I uninstalled the Drivers for the Video Card, my fan and temperature started to increase on the graphics cards. Can you explain this to me? It was working perfectly normal until I uninstalled these, going to use recovery cd and hope that I get my default settings back.

 

People apparently dont know exactly what these drivers do.

Using the mobility modder or the AW drivers when you change resolution to something lower than the native one it screen doesnt fill the whole screen.

Thats where these drivers come in. Basically it allows you to use other resolutions instead of just the native one. The code is almost exactly the same, there isnt a difference from the original ones except from the resolution fix.

In other words, no, increase of fan speeds and temps has nothing to do with the drivers, same goes for the 3dmark scores.

 

I'm going to run the 3dmark06 test again, with my standerd drivers and we'll see who wins. His got me 11,134 and mine was already 11,515. Lets see if is normal again.
As far as resolutions, I have every resolution that he talked about in these forums. As far as fitting the screen, all the resolutions do with my original drivers.

 

That was my score with the original drivers again, I don't see why they are so low. Any suggestions?

 

Depends on background processes, etc. Those AW drivers are outdated. This is the newest driver with better, much better gaming performance. About 30% better for most and up to 70% better for FC2. If you mob mod the 8.12 you will never have full screen below native. Thus, my mod.

 

If I was to connect to a 16:10 television without installing the mod drivers, will I be able to pull 720p or 1080p?

 

Ok I think ... who cares about 3DMark06 ... I want to play games and not 3DMark^^ That's why I like the new Drivers more than the standart AW Drivers ...

Would sb be so kind and tells me (if he can avail the 1280*800 resolution) the driver of the Monitor

As far as i know you can choose 1280x800 with these drivers. You can always try downloading a program and force the resolution, that might work.

Other than that it would be nice if you can make a "big" list with all the resolutions you want and hope that E-wrecked can put them in the config of the new drivers that are going to be released in half a month.

 

People have concern on certain things for this is called life, we all have our own hobbies and do the things we enjoy, I enjoy knowing my computer is around the same as other computers with the same specs. Not a person like you who doesn't provide any brief information as to help me in any way can say as to why he doesn't care.

Wow. Harsh. I'll add resolutions, no problem. Just letme know what you want. I'll mod the new driver and make sure all are there, but I'm not doing any further changes to this driver. It's final. Thanks for everyones support. Keep an eye out for 9.01, I have a few Suprises in store.

 

He was so kind to put 1280*800 in a special file but it still chanced nothing so I think my problem isn't related with the graphic driver ... that is why I asked for the Monitor Drivers ... ( pls look @ the picture and help me )

I also tryed to tell you that I agree with E-wrecked answer why your score is so bad

I am also intressted in how "my computer is around the same as other computers with the same specs" ... but I do not only care what 3DMark06 tells me ... you know this program is called 3DMark06 ... now its 2010 ... and I am more intersted in how "my computer is around the same as other computers with the same specs" @ a program wich is quite up to date

e.g FC2 ... and here ... you will be better with this driver than "other computers with the same specs" with the standart driver ...

Didnt you only try 2 drivers so far ? The ones the laptop came with and the modded ones ?

If you just want to get back to the drivers which M17 comes with you can find those in the AW's site. Under support > My hive.

I only have acess to the german myHive ... and there I can only select the drivers wich are also on the dl area ... and I tryed all in all nearly 10 drivers?

Two time the standert ... than the posted ones ... and they on page 1 ... I spend up to now more time in install/uninstall drivers than in playing games xD

The big problem was, that I tryed the funktion of some drivers with a broken "exe" of Crysis (the 64bit one wich doesn't worke) and so I thought the drivers were bad^^

So basically the problem you have now is that you cant use 1280x800 ?

 

right ... e.g. Crysis ... BF2 ... and Windows ... 1440x900 than 1280x720 and so on ... to see wheather it works I chose to show black bars instead of deforming and @ BF2 I was able with the start options to make it work @ 1440x900 without bars but @ Crysis I only have the option to play @ 1440*900 or 1280*1024 with black bars ... (or lower)

Add +r_Width=1280 +r_Height=720 in the command line you used the -dx9

something like
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -dx9 +r_Width=1280 +r_Height=720

Bah, looks like a resolution scalling issue. Hopefully when E mods the new drivers and adds the custom resolutions too will fix that problem

Is your m17 cabel ob 1280x800 in any game? (edit: ok you have 1200p )

I know my display is 720p but ... 1440x900 is 16:9 ... 1280x800 is 16:9 ... so ... 1280x720 can NOT be 16:9 => black bars are needed?

Why the hell is my Display called 720p or do I mix something up?

What's the native res. in your display?

 

1440x900 is native ...

when I was able to select 1280x800 it filled the display ... 1280x720 is deformed or with black bars ...

and sry this:

well i got a new problem, lol. i decided to try out different ati drivers, the ati drivers you can DL from alienware.com and they worked fairly well, but i decided to go back to E's modded drivers and for some reason i can't. i do the same S*** i do previously (clean install), but after the installation is finished and the system is rebooted, i stay at the low resolutions and get an error at the start saying that the drivers didn't install properly. i check device manager and it shows ati drivers but w/ those yellow exclamation signs that indicate that theres a problem with the drivers. i've attempted to do clean installs several times but no luck. any ideas? it seems the more s*** i put on this laptop the more problems i get and the more programs i already had goes bad. just like my touchpad...my touchpad doesn't work no more when i go to safe mode or any mode when my mouse isn't connected. i go to the touchpad menu and UNCHECK the "disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached". and i didn't do anything to the device settings for it to just stop working. a few days ago i was able to go to safe mode and utilize the touchpad...and all of a sudden i can't...lol more and more problems everyday. anybody got any ideas?

I decided to reinstall the ATI Driver from AW myHive ... and wow^^

I scored a new personal record @ 3DMark06 => 11091 ...

And without disabeling background tasks ... (just restarted)

What also supprised me was, that as I ran it a second time ... I "only" scored 11026 (wich is still more than with any other driver^^) ... normaly the second run is better?!?

The resolution problem isn't still not solved^^

Did you use save mode to make sure that are no leftovers of the previous drivers ?

 

Well.. I'd just like it to be known that my drivers do have performance tweaks. HOWEVER, my drivers are NOT meant solely for performance gains. Yes, 8.12 performs better across the board when it comes to gaming. And yes, my drivers allow for the fullscreen scaling - hence the thread title. But NO, I do not claim that you will gain anything performance wise when it comes to 3dmark06, or Vantage, or any other benchmark. As a matter of fact, 8.10 provided me better 3dmark scores than this driver. BUT, this will provide better gaming performance all the way around. Anyhow, just wanted to make sure that's known. I did this to assist the community and allow for everyone else to use fullscreen at resolutions below the native res. Some folks report benchmark gains, few report losses. The short of it is, that's pot luck. And, as long as your screen actually allows for other resolutions then my contribution is hopefully appreciated. Thanks to everyone else who has assisted, and contributed to the community with troubleshooting and also with their continued support.

 

yea man, the AW ATI drivers work very well for gaming. But for some reason i've gotten my best scores with your drivers and i'd like to keep utilizing them in attempts to score even higher. thanks again man, i just hope i can find a way to get them back on my system.

and yes coolmine, when i mentioned going on safe mode and having troubles with my touchpad because i cant use my mouse in safe mode...i'm in safe mode using driver sweeper. thx though
