and we are elling you he has the cards working in vista![]()
thats why we want somethign hell i want max temps
-
-
I have sent an invite to that Gmail address Marshall you posted earlier in the thread.
this is the one you want;
Windows 7 x64 Build 7127-T180DF
Good luck with it.
ps, I failed with the Winrar archiving...Ive never used it before and dont know which options to choose! sorry! -
Oh and I have left that torrent uploading for ya!
-
I was using an RC build which was 7100 and clearly no good. Lol just ran 3dmark 06 with the old aw drivers in vista and it scored less than my 3870's at 13900
-
RUN VANTAGE !!!
3dmark 06 is crap
what are the temps ?
not min temps i want MAX -
Ok ok im on it now. Give me ten mins. Need another program other than hwmonitor as itdoes not show the cards so I cant record a maximum temp
-
Gpu-z?.....
-
On vantage the GPU score was 5045. I have no idea if this is any good or not. Temps got to 88.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Is that with single gpu or dual? Is a low score. My dual 3870 got 7700 GPU score. I think this is expected to be over 11k for dual gpu
-
Think he said somewhere only one GPU is currently enabled so im guessing the score is with one GPU.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
That does sound about right for a single 4850; thats roughly where the guys over with the MSI GT725 have been reporting (5000-5500) as hitting, as a comparison the 280M gets about 5000-5500 as well
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Then lets get that 2nd card working now!
-
Wonder if its the same issue as it was on the W90 Master/slave driver issue that wont let it run the second card or install properly . i spent a better part of a week trying to figure it out till it boiled down to having both cards flashed as master/master.
-
What i really need is someone in the know to take a look at the inf from the aw driver and compare it to the 9.7 inf. I found a few guides and its not just as simple as putting the device ID in. There are other entries to be made that I could not get my head around.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
If I get a chance later; I'll take a look at the guides and see what I can do; one of the others will probably get there quicker than me though!
Also, are the Hardware ID for both your cards EXACTLY the same? AKA the ID that me and you posted earlier?
Edit: Can you link the guides; I'm probably going out later so if I don't have to search for bits and pieces probably going to be a little easier -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am with Quadzilla here, if you can flash the cards, make them master/master and see if that will do it
I know iChime did a thread on falshing the 3870's (should be same procedure?) -
Yeah the ID's are identicle. Remember there are four lines for the id as i posted earlier in the thread. Here is the link to what to do http://www.driverheaven.net/driverh...deon-hd-4670-1gb-mobility-modder-support.html Its about half way down the topic.
-
Well after some testing its clear that crossfire is not working with these ancient drivers. On a good note though even with one card I can get an average of 13000 on 3dmark 06 and around 5300 for the GPU on vantage. Temps now nicely sitting at around 80 under load.
-
yeh so thats a big problem, cant mob mod 48XX drivers and the only ones that work are from AW and are so old they are useless
that sucks, basically waiting for AW drivers then, and so the wait begins, considering last week when i called they told me they didnt have drivers for it (at the time put down to any old excuse)
it appears we could be in for a wait -
Do you have a qx in your m17? A single 4850 doesnt normally achive 13k.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
The are 1GB 4850s so could be marginally faster than the 512MB models? (or he could be a jammy sod with a quad
)
Edit:
Going to take a look at my 9.7 drivers and see whether I can add 4850M support now. -
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
RIGHT, OK in a shameless nod to lambofreak over in the MSI forums; I've nicked his guide on how to manually install, and edited his provided .infs to *theoretically* allow install of the Alienware 1GB 4850s.
The guide below explains how to manually install these; I'm not sure if the ATI installer will work; so try it first and find out, and if it doesn't follow the instructions below.
If these install properly; then just install the 9.6/9.7 individual download CCC.
PS these are Cat 9.7s rather than the old version AW use. (Which I think are quite probably 8.3-8.6)
http://rapidshare.com/files/260752102/64bitM4850testdriver.rar.html
Let me know if they work!!
ALSO you might want to try going into the 2 Infs (already modded and included) and additionally adding the following
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850X2" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_944B
(and a variation with each of the additional ends on like I've done for the 4850 standard ID)
I just saw this on the ATI dev's card list. It could be possible if we use this ID we could install them as a dual setup...might not work though; depends on if the M4850x2 they mentioned is a single PCB or simply 2 crossfire boards like Im hoping.
Damn wish I could test this all myself! -
Hmm, having 1200p with 1gb could theoretically lead to better performance, but i would say even now they are not capable of that, unless they have gddr5 memory, or crossfire is using small amounts of the second card ( which is quite possible, the pre release drivers weren't half bad).
All the MSI machines only hit around 10k with duo core or quad processors, only the qx is capable of topping 14k fully overclocked with a 4850 also overclocked.
Im still thinking that 9.7 is a bad choice, i'd go for 9.4 or 8.* at present.
Need to wait for the gt 729 to get confirmation if the newer 4850 can hit 13k, but i still doubt it, not without the aid of crossfire. -
Did he ever state the error he is getting in the device manager under the second card ?.
-
Not really an error, just the corrupt driver problem, i think code 39, device drivers are missing or corrupt, but the cards are showing as operational, and i know how notorious ATI is for working randomly when they shouldnt be hehe.
-
Marshall, what happens when you pull the crossfire cable out?
Do you see an "Enable Crossfire" option in Catalyst Control Center?
Have you tried 3dmark with the "Show CrossfireX icon" setting enabled?
Do you have the cards installed backwards? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If they were installed backwards he would get no visual when he boots unless they are both "Master" cards. Pulling the cable should also make no difference. I am certain this is strictly a driver problem. And as mentioned above, Mobility Modding them yourself is not as easy and some people would like it to be.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
@ Marshall - points above to my last post;
easy to miss as I spent ages editing because of the rapidshare stuffs
See if those install for you; might install fine with the installer; or should manually install otherwise
@Cataclysm - I stuck with 9.7s for this; as they're meant to have crossfire improvements. -
Very true, 9.7 do offer improved CF support, but, i highly doubt these are ordinary cards, just like the ASUS W90, There is the hellish experience with drivers on the w90 setup too, the hardware ids come very close to the 4650 one when looking into the hardware ID.
The thing with the 4850s on MSI machines (mine is an MSI too) is that the ati drivers (desktop ones) fit and verify our hardware id when manually installing, i dont think this is the case with the alienwaremachine, i will check the INFs of the official drivers.
The only other point ive seen which seems to be pretty accurate, is that these could be both master cards. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Well we have the hardware IDs; as does the guy who does mobility modder now (recent thread in last few days on MM forum); so we should see this being sorted ASAP
The improved CF support SHOULD help these cards if we can get the 9.7s installed properly haha
Actually, just took a look at the Asus W90-VP forum. A guy got 20k in 3dmark06 with his crossfire 4870x2; which is basically the 4850 with clocks set slightly higher (550/880 vs 500/800) we should be seeing some impressive results soon
The thought also came to me that if the drivers have been modded over there; then perhaps the drivers for the Asus W90 would work with the Alienware if we add the new 4850 ID no's; not just the 4870s. -
Yeah, Mobility modder may be the only option, or to try implement the hardware ids in the w90s supported driver, unless they dont cover any other hardware then the mxm 2 4870s.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Hmmmm...runs off to download the 4870x2 drivers to see what version they're based around.
Damn; wish I had the machine already...for testing purposes ofc -
Yeah man, if i had the cash, i wouldnt mind trying this beast of a machine out, i love the 4850 i have, but 2 of them would be great, i will also try and get hold of the crossfire drivers.
-
Hi Marshall,
I did not realise it was the RC of Win7 that you were having issues with! I thought perhaps it was an earlier BETA as the problem with ATI GPUs not working correctly only occured pre-7100. This is why I thought a newer version to 7127 at least would fix this issue....sorry for this misunderstanding mate!
If you are using the RC then the problems you are having are not the same as we had with our 3870s because this issue was definitely fixed for the RC.
Good luck with the rest of the project. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Haha, thats what I told myself. Originally I was gonna buy the MSI GT725 as you know; however I scrubbed a little extra cash together; and with the price drops, the M17 isn't THAT much more expensive than a GT725 (1100-1300 vs 900+upgrade choices.)
-
Is that a notebook you have cataclysm? what sort of performance do you get from your GPU?
-
RC1 still had alot of problems with Xfire
RC2 fixed em -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
@Tony The Advent 6555 is a limited edition, rebranded MSI GT725-210UK with some parts downgraded. Was really cheap too; it's got a single 4850M in it and I believe hes hitting similar to Marshall with 1GPU running
Also, just checked ASUS' drivers; and they're even older than the Alienware onesCan't believe these companies are so retarded sometimes! Gaming laptops are for games and gamers; people who want and need the newest and best drivers; both for performance improvements and tweaks!
MSI is doing much better with thier gaming line; at least thier drivers are at Cat 9.3 last I checked! -
Well i run GPU and CPU in power saving mode most the time (for gaming mainly)
I can fluently play crysis maxed.
Fallout 3 ive been loving maxed out
I run multiple eve online clients,
Dude the best thing about ati though, is streaming tech....
Video conversions in under 10 minutes (im talking 1-2 hour videos here, its fricking fast ok)
Out of the box with q9000 i got 10225 with my GPU, i can hit 11k with a slight overclock to the GPU or CPU.
The 4850 can be flash clocked to almst desktop clocks, fully overclocking with a qx9300 and 4850, 14300 3dmark 06 is achivable with a single card, 2 has never been done before but it'd cream a gtx280m im quite sure.
Its very compatible with vga out and hdmi out, it sets up audio too as the driver is semi realtec and ati with my machine (the hdmi audio driver installs with driver updates if i recall, its a great feature)
Maximum control over gaming quality (it has so many AA features and sampling etc, this is one of my favoirite features)
I cant say anything bad about it to be honest, its the powerfullest card i've ever worked with, and im happy i went from nvid to ati.
Oh and im using 8.57 driversThere compatable with everything ive had hehe.
-
instead of downloading windows 7 build 7127
i would suggest downloading the final version of windows 7 instead, you can run it for 30 days with out an serial number, and rearming 3 times it witch means an 3 months time
so you have plenty of time to test windows 7 final and buy a serial when you can
if you do download the final to test make sure you download the right one make sure the build number is 7600.16385 -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Hmmm just seen this:
http://developer.amd.com/gpu_assets/ATI_Device_IDs_Jan_09.txt
{“ ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4670 ,M96 ,9488 “}
{“ ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4850 ,M98 , 944A “}
{“ ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4850 X2 ,M98 , 944B “}
{“ ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4870 ,M98 ,945A “}
I wonder...if we forced the driver to install under the above 944B rather than 944A; would that make it work :/ -
possible .......
I do know its great to have you Alex i need some one to help me out with drivers -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Haha, Im not that good with them; I just have a bad case of persistant
I've added a note about this 4850X2 find to my previous 9.7 installation post (as this ID wasn't in the INFs before). It quite possibly won't work as it might be referencing some single PCB mobility monstrosity; but it might just be the true driver reference for this setup
This would be one hell of a lot easier if MM 4-series was out already! -
lol the id for the 3870's in X fire was 3870x2 so i would not be surprised
-
Alex, what about force installing 944A and 944B, we really need someone with the 3870s to ID both the cards in xfire.
I dont know much about driver signing, but if i recall, the drivers include security catalogues, prehaps disabling driver signing during start up then trying to install the drivers. -
Hey up....Alex is starting to brain-storm and things are starting to happen again...its gunna happen surely. With all your great minds on the case we cant fail.
-
thanks for the MSI PC info cataclysm....is it a US company?
-
These guys are global, known commonly for mainboards as alot of makes use them, i found out the other day all my medion computers are using them too hehe, so definately reliable.
9 Years running my machines now -
I can confirm that when I install the ATI drivers (other than AW drivers) with my 3870's in Xfire, they are identified as 3870 x 2's, so you're probably on to something here...
*Side Note* Do the 4850's require a different xfire cable then the 3870's maybe?
Cannot get 4850's to work in M17
