No they do have 1280x800, I just tested it, it scales the resolution to full screen.

    I'm confused now...

EDIT: At 1440x900, it doesn't scale.

Is it possible that Alienware uses two types of screens ? Cause a lot of people have the scaling issue, hence this release E made.

    Seems really odd.

Yea think those are the only two resolutions that scale properly.

As I rebooted I got a "Bios error" ... don't know the exact "words" but I wasn't even able to select wich os he should boot from  ... now I only installed W7^^ Hopfully without this one more time^^

Interesting, removing 9.1 and installing 8.12 causes Audiosurf to flicker if A.I is enabled. Reinstalling 9.1 solves the problem. *sigh*

Thank you E, for nice drivers and a very good guide how to install them!

Just installed and I´m relieved I can use other than 1920x1200 resolution games again. :) Though I have a weird problem...

Every time my computer is idle for some time and it turns off the screen (as it should do), it resets my desktop resolution to 800x600. Any idea why it´s doing that? Other than that, the drivers are working like they should. Even the installation went nicely without any problems.

I´ll investigate this myself too and post if I find out what´s doing it.

EDIT: Ok the resolution problem doesn't seem to appear anymore. Don't know what it was and it only happened twice. Either way, problem solved. Thanks again E! Good stuff.

You're welcome. On a side note, I found out why my crossfire was dropping on 3dmark runs. The qx evidentally maxes out the Power Budget of this computer. So, when I was running @ 3.2 GHz I was also using Full Power scheme in Vista. Well..running @ 100% CPU during GPU tests, that's not needed..so it was drawing too much power from the rig and then would downclock the GPU/CPU cause of a lack of proper power. Soo.. I dropped my Minimum CPU usage from 100% to 25% in the Power schemes.. now the problem is gone. Gonna do some more benching to see what comes of it. :)

:( Try reverting back to 8.12 - run it there for a while and see how it works. I dislike 9.1 - not just my modded version, but the driver in general.

On a side note, I now own the fastest Quad-core Notebook in the world with a QX9300... according to 3dmark06 ;)

    OK listen up E!

Bumped into another problem. If I leave my computer idle for a longer period and close the lid, it blinks a moment between 800x600 and 1920x1200 resolution until it stays in 1920x1200.

But after that, I can't tune my screen brightness anymore. FN+F7 or F8 does nothing. It resets if I reboot computer though and the problem goes away.

I know this is a small problem but does anyone else have it - or solution for it?

Mort, go into CCC - then go into Color Settings I believe - then click "Reactivate ATI Color..." or something like that. I'm going off of memory.

    Bug no2 :p

Catalyst 9.1 apparently has a common issue that makes error #132 in WoW to appear once again. Seems to be limited to people with Crossfire and some say that disabling the Catalyst A.I seems to solve the problem.

So if you play WoW, using 9.1 and getting an error now you know why :D

Below are the specs of my new M17. As I have posted before, I like playing IL2 1946, BF2, Far Cry, Half Life, COD, etc. What will be the advantage of me downloading and installing your drivers. Will my M17 ship with the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI or will I need to go out and get them. I do not play WoW, or Crysis (yet, never had anything that could play it) or any of the really intensive graphic games that are used in benchmarks, so will the M17 play these games in its factory settings or will I need to use your drivers to get the real performance? I really do not want to screw anything up.

To be honest things look way better now ! Its really odd since drivers usually improve fps/smoothness etc and not "image" quality.

Trying to figure a way to fix the WoW error at the moment without disabling one card (what a stupid "fix") :p Although i dont really get it that often :)

You can play the games with the factory drivers, the only difference is that these drivers will give you up to 80% performance in some games, Far Cry for example. Nothing can go wrong with keeping your drivers updated. Worst case scenario you uninstall them and install the factory ones again.

It will play the games fine..however, I believe it ships with Catalyst 8.7 - which was released back in July. There are no new mobility drivers compatible with these GPUs since. We have to download the desktop drivers and use a tool called Mobility Modder to make them run with our rigs. No worries..we aren't the only ones. ATI doesn't really support many mobility products, they put it on the distributor. In this case, AW. These are just desktop modded 9.1 drivers, with some performance tweaks added. Nothing fancy, but it (and this is really why I did it) allows you to scale fullscreen with all resolutions unlike a typical Mobility Modded driver. And no worries, your AW will come with drivers that do the same. But, for the best gaming performance you will want to upgrade your drivers. I suggest 8.12 as of right now.. but that's my preference. Oh, and the naming scheme..just for some info is based on "Year.Month" - So 8.12 was released December, 2008 and 9.1 Released January 09. Just in case you ever wanna find out how long a driver had been out. ;) In any event, it's up to you. You can swap drivers and try em.. if disappointed, just rollback the drivers. You'll not harm anything, period.

Went back to 8.12 for a few mins after having the problem with Audiosurf but the dps increase that i see in 9.1 (At least in the games i play) are noticeable :p So trying to fix the problems although not sure if its possible since it seems that an ati .dll is causing the error with WoW :p

Edit: Ah and another thing, temps in WoW seem to be lower since the fans rarely go to high speed now :)

Thanks E-wrecked! I really love the scenery in Far Cry and I am dying to see how it will look on the M17. After I take a look at that I think I will go ahead and download your drivers (and follow your instructions) and take a look at Far Cry again. It actually played very well on my old 8600 which says loads about the game engine itself.

IL2 1946 is the other game I want to take a look at before and after. I can change the graphics to "perfect" in the .inf file. My old 8600 would stutter in perfect mode or in a big dogfight with lots of aircraft and AA fire. I am hoping my M17 will do all this without a sweat.

I the "problem guy" is back :p

After "Deleting the driver software for this device" I am unable to Remove the ATI Control Panel so I tryed to install the driver again.

After dl and mobmodding I get this problem:

During installation (bevor it starts installing the driver^^) during (I gess) "searching for Sourcefiles" (as you see on the screenshot) it freezes :(

I tryed other drivers and a clean deinstallation ... nothing works :(

    Greetings

It gives you a great boost @ Crysis if you are still using the standert AW drivers ...
I am sill comparing, if you wait 1 or 2 days you would have a clear comparison between the reason drivers ;)

With 9.1, my FPS in Fallout 3 doubled. Well, it certainly feels like it; I can now run full HDR and it's smoother than eggs.

My 3D Mark score went down ~100 points, but I couldn't careless since games generally feel better.

Remember! 8.12 FIX and 9.1 disable AF! (at Crysis Warhead, may be at your game as well!)

You get more fps ... but AF gets lost ... I don't mind, because I don't realy "see" AF "in fight" ;)

    Greetings
    Julian

Edit: little question ... is the AW driver basicly the 8.10?
