    Mr.Moo,
why don't you just make a heat pipe extending out the back and into a small container filled with liquid nitrogen? Bet you could get some pretty good clocks!

Just ran a bunch of cycles through 3DMark06 and managed 15,585. :D

Of course that was @ 1280x800 which is the default setting for this screen.

And that's in a 72F house with no cooler.

Stock A.W. bios, E's 9.1 graphics drivers but no graphics overclocking.

    Used setfsb, HWmonitor, and CPUz.

    ACPI got up to 85C
    CPU's maxed @ 80C
    GPU's maxed @ 82C

Stock w/9.1 drivers I was getting around 14,400. OC'ed w/setfsb....15,585 so it was good for almost a 1200 point increase.

After the test runs I set the fsb back to stock cause I'm totally happy with the gaming performance.

Uh nice temps! Do you have a cooler? Did you remove the battery? Or have you done something else?
edit: Your gpu temps are as low as mine, but the headsink connects the gpu with the cpu, doesn't it?

    Hey Julian,

Thanks, and no I don't have a cooler. I used a different high tech method which was to stick my grandson's toy cell phone under it to lift the back a little.

I didn't remove the battery. I just ran it.

I'm pretty sure both GPU's exit on the left via one shared fan with two heat sinks. That's a different configuration than my M9750.

    Thx E,

I couldn't have done it without your drivers.

After all those runs I skipped from 3.5 to 3.6 something, and wasn't surprised when I got the dreaded BSOD.

It will be interesting to see what I get when I change my LCD screen tomorrow for the high res version. Then I'll be able to see what it gets @ 1280x1024.

Hey guys just a quick second i went through most of the posts and didnt see a similar question....when attempting to install ewreckeds modded drivers 9.1 as well as 9.3 i get an error in the catalyst installer program after starting the install....to the effect of no detection driver located. then it kills the install. Anyone else ran into this by chance? I uninstalled all of the old drivers and used driver sweeper before attempting the install. Any help at all would be appreciated :D

The stock, "Windows Update," drivers have come a long way. With a modest OC (2.8ghz) and no GPU OC, it pulls a stock 14,400 3Dmark06.

Haven't finished finding the CPUs sweet spot. It boots at 3.5ghz, but as expected, Prime95 brings it to its knees right quick. If a CPU can't handle 4 core Prime95 for at least 30 minutes, it isn't a stable OC (but it's great for benching :) )

I've found Prime 95 catches what Orthos won't. I've had systems pass Orthos and crash and burn with Prime 95. Wasn't pretty. :) Make sure to set Prime 95 to 4 cores, maximum heat generation.

And make sure these tests aren't in unrealistic conditions (IE, bottom of laptop off, in a room 60 F degrees). Subject it to the test in the same conditions you would be using the unit on the go and place to place. Elevated a few inches if that is how you use it (I use a gel wrist rest to elevate my laptops more for the better angle, but it provides ~1.5" of extra clearance).

I'll spend the next few days letting the AS5 cure quite nicely and let the CPU settle in and expand.

If your QX9300 passed Prime 95 4-core max heat, normal conditions @ 3.2ghz for over an hour, that is bangin' Don.

Hey guys, sorry for breaking into your thread - I was hoping to ask a question to E-Wrecked about his drivers.

First of all, I'm not asking anyone to mod anything.

I have an issue with mob modded catalyst drivers that you seem to have solved in your package (at least I'm guessing it was about the same problem). When I connect an external monitor (native 1680*1050) and display a lower 16:10 res (like 1280*800) it won't stretch to fullscreen because the card seems to send my monitor a 1280*1024 image (my monitor's built-in menu is telling me this and it makes sense since stretching doesn't work anymore) with black bars on top and beneath, so my monitor can't stretch. any driver past the old Catalyst Control Panel versions have this issue for me, before that there was an option somewhere called "Preserve Widescreen Aspect Ratio" that I could turn off for it to work.

I stumbled across this thread as a last resort and although I can't see any specific description of your "fullscreen stretching" problems, I am hoping it is related to this issue - or at least that you know something about it.

    The only problem is that I don't own a M17 card - instead, I have a Mobility HD3650 (M76), so I can't try out your modded drivers.

Again, I'm not asking you do mod anything for me. I was just hoping you could give me some insight into modding these drivers, so that I might try doing it myself. The only thing I want to achieve is to make my card output a 1280*800 image over VGA, without any "black stuff" added in anywhere, as opposed to the card "rounding it off" to 1280*1024.

I've done some comparing between the E-wrecked INFs and the corresponding DNA INFs, but the differences are so large that I can't pinpoint the exact settings that solved the issue for you guys with M17 cards.

So, in conclusion, any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Cheers ! :D

Ya know..that's a good question. I think I've run across a similar issue before when searching for the resoluton(no pun intended) to getting these drivers to fullscreen. However, I'm not sure I'd be the best person to answer this for you.. It may be as simple as your GPU not supporting the resolution? The problem for the 3870s was the lack of fullscreen mode on the laptop monitor, not an external. But.. hopefully this link offers you a fix:
    http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php?t21868.html

It's all about adding resolutions to the card.. give it a go and let me know if it helps

Ok.. Here's 64-bit ATI Vista/Win7 Modded .inf - this is a different install method than my easy install.. Download the ATI 9.4 64bit Driver Package only - not the full Catalyst suite. Extract my .infs to the \ATI\SUPPORT\9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF directory replacing the ones there. Then use have disk method and point to either one of the .infs inside the same folder. Unfortunately, I'm not sure as to which is meant for vista and which is win7.. lol - maybe someone can clue me in. Anyhow, lemme know how it works! Oh, no need to clean install...just install these and I don't think you need to update CCC either..

    http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.com/ATI9464bitVista.zip

Once these are confirmed functional, I will mod for an easy-install method. Please check resolutions. And, CooLmine I will get yours together too..let's make sure these work first. :)

Oh, and to narcotic, there's something else that may be the cause. It's under Device_SoftwareSettings, and i'm not home or I'd look. But it's is toward the bottom and refers to ExtDisplay Restricted modes..

Do you mean in your drivers or in the "normal" DNA ones? I'm having trouble finding a key like that.

Anyway, I looked at the link you gave me about the DALStandardModes, but I don't think that's the problem. Every driver I checked has a 1280,800,00,00,00,00,00 entry. Besides, I can select the resolution in CCC just fine, it's just not working correctly.

One question: a lot of settings are listed in the INFs under a tag called [ati2mtag_RemoveDeviceSettings]. Does this mean that every option listed under that tag represents something being turned off? For example a setting is listed called DALRULE_CRTSUPPORTSALLMODES, does that mean that since it's listed under RemoveDeviceSettings, this option is turned off?

    Thanks for helping out.

EDIT: Please note that my LCD only has a VGA connection. According to some stuff I read somewhere (very specific i know :p) that means the card is treating my monitor like CRT (which would explain its stubbornness in believing it's dealing with a 4:3 monitor) and therefore I might have to look at CRT settings.

The updated driver on MyHive is still a old one (8.12), so go with ATI, it will give you better Gamingscores.

Can someone post drivers for 32Bit Vista? I'm stuck with E's 9.1's...

Also I noticed if I try to get drivers from ATi they don't offer mobility crossfire 3870 drivers and the "normal" 9.4's I try to download for Vista 32bit don't work...

That's the problem, the mobile versions aren't supported by ATI and that's why you will only find W7 mobile drivers from ATI.

There is a 9.4 mobile verison for W7 but I think there is no for Vista.

The mobile version of 9.4 E-wrecked made is for 64bit I guess, but give me a sec I'll search^^

    Greetings
    Julian

    Edit: sry can't find a 9.4 32bit, why do you have 32bit os? :)

    Edit^2: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=355375 it's 9.2

thanks for looking! :) How hard would it be for someone (E! :) ) to create a 32bit version of the driver?

As for why I'm running Vista 32.... thats a good question... I suppose at the time I figured driver support was still weak.. apperantly not! :)

Now heres the question, is there a way I can upgrade to Vista 64bit without losing all my files and games? Because currently I have a lot of games installed via Steam and it would take forever and a half to redownload them and I have lots of important school work which I do have backed up on my M17 and my iMac but still. Thanks!

Okay I just found an answer, If I wanted to upgrade to vista 64bit I'd have to repurchase a copy of windows and then reinstall everything on my computer...

I can back up my steam files so I wouldn't have to download them again but it would take a lot of work... I wonder if it's worth it.

I should have gone with 64bit vista right off the bat.

My other option is, hopefully someone could show some love for the 32bit vista users? :)

BTW the link to Mr.Moos 32bit 9.2's.. the file isn't on the server anymore :(
