Is this a good deal for the M17x (from Micro Center)

My partner had to go to Microcenter to get a special CAT5 cable today and he saw the M17x. He's ridiculously jealous of me.

"It makes my MacBook Pro look like a piece of junk. Are you sure you don't want to buy it back?"

what is the average wait time until its at your door since the moment you place the order online?

i know its been discussed before but im wondering what the current wait time is since many of you have ordered it lately

it states "Usually ships in 7-21 business days" but im not sure if its current...

It just changed from 5-7 yesterday to 7-21 today. I'd say at least 18.

 

It is hard to say at this point what will happen. If you read the last 10 posts you will see that they are getting a new shipment in and the backorders should be filled(on a side note I got my backorder email today). If they get them in stock next week and still have stock left after filling the backorders and sending stock to their stores you "might" be able to get one pretty quickly.

But it is all specualtion at this point, who knows how many they are getting and how many orders they might already have to fill. Some people that have already ordered one might not even get one, including myself.

 

Well they don't plan on discontinuing the Alienware offer any time soon so I imagine they will keep ordering them as needed. The problem is that I have a feeling these are pre-built systems and that's why there are battery problems with all of them. They're just sitting around the Dellienware warehouse.

 

Been running this machine from Microcenter for a week now no problems besides the battery not being recognized by Windows. Fixing it is easy. Unplug take battery out press the power button down for 10sec hook it all back up and problem fixed. Lots of people had similar problems from Microcenter.

Other than that it runs smooth as silk. Comes with a Win7 upgrade if anyone was wondering.

 

Did you happen to call Dell and extend the warranty?

 

i've been using the m17x for 3 days now. i'm using 186.81 windows 7 drivers with 2.4 overclocked cpu. got 12556 3Dmarks06 and 11094 vantage(with Physx card enabled) 9611 with it off. so far no big issues with windows 7. i recommend that if you want to use windows 7, do a clean install and use the M17x resource DVD for drivers.

I tried talking to 2 different people online today and both of them gave me the 5-7 day response. They also said that they are being "replenished" in the next 5-7 days. I tried to get more details out of them but didn't get very far. I am not sure what is going on at this point...I guess just after the mess with the store in NJ I am not to happy with all this conflicting information.

 

Honestly, its more than likely a Dell issue than a Microcenter issue.

Thats probably the best deal I've seen besides the woman who bought her stock M17x from Dell and got a fully loaded M17x for $1799. But I think that person is trolling.

Just got notice today that my laptop was shipped. Bout time, looks like they've got the shipments rolling in .

 

same here just got the notice last night that it was being shipped, even though i called the micro rep earlier that day, and she told me the the same thing about them coming in late next week, they reall don't know sh** about whats going on around there, lol!!

 

when you order from microcenter what shows up on the engraved nameplate. Can you order that later and replce it? how much does it cost?

And what about the warranty? Is it with microcenter or standard one year with dell?

i made up my mind and will be purchasing today!

The name plate is pretty bland - it just says "M17x".

 

You can order a custom one from Dell later on from what I hear...

So mine still hasn't shipped >=( Frustrating!!!

It was posted earlier in this thread. Someone ordered a custom M17x plate after the fact over the phone with Dell.

 

If I had $100 for every M17x I've advertised on these forums I could buy a second one. Microcenter needs to invest in me.

 

I ordered my m17x today (4 hours ago) and I'm a little worried I never got ANY email from microcenter so i dont even have an order number.. I checked my bank online and the money has already been deducted? Is this normal? I made sure my email was spelled correctly so i know its not that... what has been your experience?

i tried contacting microcenter but then i got this.. "Thank you for your email. You should receive a response within 2 business days.".... thats why asking you guys...

Interesting, they've been getting alot of orders lately so they've been on backorder alot. What happened with me was I ordered it, got an order confirmation then a call saying to call them for confirmation, then a backorder email saying that the card will not be charged until the item has been shipped. 2 weeks later I get the shipment email and the card was charged. So far Micro Center has been trying to fulfill all their orders, and they've been really kind so far, even to go as far as to call me back to give me an ETA on shipping.

I would call them when they're open and inquire about what is going on.

Talked to them today about my order(ordered last wed 08/26). They said its getting boxed up to ship. This is also from the same person on Friday that told me that it should be shipped in 7-21 days! I'll just be happy if it actually does ship out this week.

I think the lesson I have learned from this is, you can order this laptop and expect it to ship within 2 weeks. But DO NOT try to get any information from Micro Center because they don't have a clue whats going on and they will just confuse you.

I will have to admit it is my own fault for obsessing over this crap as I should of just ordered it and let it get here when it gets here.

I ordered it last wed 8/26, right from the website. I think there are different distribution centers, that's why certain orders are getting fulfilled before others.

 

That's ridiculous. I don't care about distribution centers. It should be first in, first out. Where are you located? I'm in Colorado.

He used an EPP discount through Dell that is only available to employees of a certain company.

 

M17x's are being shipped from Grove City, OH.

Give it about 3 weeks to ship, after that then I would question why its taking so long. Keep in mind that they're on backorder and tons of people are trying to take advantage of this sweet deal.
