Computers are like cars. As soon as they are out the door, the price starts going down.

oh ....i REALLY like the idea of the RGB LED on the M17x.

    i don't see how they can do multi-GPU on the PM55 though(unless they the GTX280m doesn't saturate more than 8 PCI-E lanes).

ps, this is retarded...no gtx260 for arrandale CPUS AND no core i7-620m for canadians...this is BULL.

EDIT: wait! is the core i confirmed for the M17x?

But not the current M17X right? It'll be the new refreshed M17X correct?

Did anyone catch if the 11" new laptop is going to have a choice of processors, or just that single, solitary CULV Core 2 Duo? I'm still frustrated that this potentially groundbreaking laptop is stuck with an ancient, cruddy processor. Why not use a Core i3 or i5 instead? I hear the core i3s use energy more efficiently than the Core 2 Duo ULVs, but are MUCH more powerful.

Guys its official!! I just got off the phone with this very good sales assistant that helped me cancel my order yesterday so that I can make another one. Moments ago I contacted him and asked him about changing my 280m SLI to a Radeon HD 4870 Crossfire and i added in another question of whether the M17x is going to have a refresh with a i7 in the near future. He said he did not have the info from the company and told me he will help me check and call me back. 2 hours later he called me back and told me the good news which is that the new i7 cores for the M17x will be released on the 18th of January and the Core 2 Duo will be discontinued for production. Just for your info I live in Singapore and thats the release date here so it might be different for you guys :)

...right now there is only a 33 watt tdp i3. Eventually they will get it down to 10. But until then we have the capable and proven C2D.

a 33 watt cpu and GPU = 66 not including the chipset, HDD, screen, fans and memory.

you don't want to carry an 80 watt PSU around with this... you want a nice small 60 watt unit.

But even when the M17x does get the rgb led, is there any chance it would be 120hz?

Also, I remember seeing some pictures of Moo's, the M15x is almost as big as the M17x lol.

I see litle point in an 11 inch alienware for gaming. I would buy it nonetheless because its a cool gadget but I doubt i'll enjoy actualy gaming on it.
About the m17x, if its price will be reasonable, it might draw my attention away from the new asus g7* series.

don't really mather the dual gpu solution from alienware will eat the asus solution no mather what

and since alienware mxm is not reversed like thoses of asus you can still upgrade to 5870 down the line

you can still buy it with i7 and minimal gpu then upgrade only the gpu down the line

while if you chose asus you will need to change the whole machine du to thier reverse mxm crap

with the new linup and adding the I5 into the M15x the pprice just went up also
now for what you could get before they did the i5 for 1399 your paying 1499 so they didnt make it cheaper they just put a cheaper part in there for the same price and then charge you more for the old config

dual 5870 will suport DX11 stop readin half post PLZ
he is just whining caus he wan dx11 and didnot understand that he can simplty upgrade from single card dx10 card to dual dx11 card when they are out

also alienware will have them in store the same day that asus will start to build them anyway

the only difference is that alienware don't make pre order for hardware they don't actually build ATM and they don't feel the need to rever the crap out of the mxm and screw driver support but if you wan to jump on the wagon go ahead be my guess

i'll just laugh and say i told ya

I have been wanting to order the m15x but was waiting for the ces. Other than raising the price are they adding anything to it? Should I wait a few days or is it safe to go ahead and place an order. Once the order is placed how long do you have to cancel it without any penalties?

I THINK you could cancel the order before they start production without penalty. Once you recieve the laptop you can send it back for a refund within 21 days but they charge a 15% restocking fee unless there's an issue with the laptop.

It honestly depends on how much work they're currently under. If they're already working full-on and have a lot of units queued before yours it could be over a week. If not it could be a matter of a day.

Unfortunately for me, this issue did not come up till early 2009 ( laptop bought when first came out june 2006) and already beyond warranty.

Now if i play any graphic demanding game, instant BSOD.. sometimes BSOD while browsing also ( basically whenever the computer access the video memory cells that are bad )

Really me off tho... I did not know about the dell self test that I can run when I bought the laptop. I wonder if it would have fail the video memory test.(which it does right now) :(

Mint condition laptop with the most annoying Video card problem ever !

Hope this time around with m17x it will be better ( I hope nvda dont fk it up again)

That's a lot of money to spend on an obsolete computer. I would cancel if I were you. His job is to get your money today - don't trust him.

The 5870 with i7 should be a lot faster than the rig you configured (same as mine).

LOL If you live in Calgary I'll sell you mine.

Dell does not do trade ins.. so unless you bought it recently and can return it then the best bet is to sell it and try to recoup some money ...

Yeah I agree, the reps will say anything to get a sale. The M17x refresh could show up tomorrow and they'd still tell you it's 6 months away.
