I think tonight I might be calling and trying to return my M17X. I think the i7 is much more appealing. I'm still with in 30 days, but out of the 21
-
They won't do it, dr650se.
Must be withing 21 of invoice (ship date). You could sell it in the forums. -
I figure it's worth a shot, didn't I read somonewhere that if it was sold during the holiday season you get 30?
-
Not that I am aware of.
Go ahead and try. It might be an hour of fun! -
Hahaha, not like I have anything else to do out here
-

I would absolutely give it a try. But will be hard to pull off given the new ones cannot be ordered yet, so not a matter of returning one and buying the other right away
-
Very true, so the question becomes is it worth it? A restocking fee would have me lose out on over $450, plus the warranty, then I have to sell off the QX9300 seperately since that's not covered in the warranty should I sell it here, and the ram
Stil worth a shot, after all , it was a christmas gift to me
from myself

I would say that unless Dell will just let you replace your motherboard and CPU in your current machine it is not worth the trouble
I will only be trying to get the 4870s (or 5870s if they show up) and not bothering with an i7 upgrade myself.
Of course, I say that now, we shall see lol - I also used to think the M17x was stupid when I had my whitebook -
Any idea which CPU exactly it'll be? I'm sure it can be found cheaper then dells. If thats the case then perhaps I can just convince them to sell me the mobo.
-
damn it i be taking delivery today from fedex and now i feel like i have an outdated M17X .my config lunar silver q9000 ,2x gtx260m. 1920x1200 4g ram..
-
I got my M17x 22nd December, and I really would prefer to have the i7 just to future proof it. It was given as a warranty replacement for an XPS. Do you know if the 21 days return still applies to UK orders?
Thanks -
Get on the phone and arrange a return. You have 21 days. Sadly I'm on day 25
-
good idea should i even open the box to see or just leave it sealed -
They've said that as the exchange has already taken place, I can't have exchange it for the newer system. Is there anything I can say to them to have it exchanged for a newer system?
-
I would leave it sealed, I reccommend just simply telling them that it doesn't suit your needs or that you are not satisfied with it. Everything that came in the box must be returned.
For information pertaining to Dells return policy, reference this link , You can also check this link for a quick overview of the return policy. Your best bet is to act ASAP. If you fit the return criteria, and they say no, ask to speak to a manager. Be polite and patient, as they will be less willing to work with a customer who has a poor attitude, but be firm. -
-
Unsure, but have your order number ready and call 1-800-624-9897, the number shoud be 24/7. They should work with you given that you just recieved it. Talk with them and see if you can work something out.

when i was going thru the pages of this thread i tot i read someone who mentiond that the core 2 duo proccesor will not be longer available to configure.. if this is true then the q9000 will be the base processor for this machine.. when i configured my sistem i had to add 250 to get the q9000.. can anybody confirm if that is true
-
-
What the dell sales person told me was Core 2 Duo is going to be out of production. I'm not sure about Core 2 Quad but he also said something like the i series will be the new staple.
I noticed he didn't mention i7 specifically, meaning maybe theres i3,i5 as a cheaper choice and maybe even i9 in the future? lol -
-
-
Not sure how long it will take. I've never returned anything, but I would be guessing fairly quickly. Speculation of course
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i found this interesting wonder why we don't see nothing in dell site for the m17x yet http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/01/07/five.inch.slate.technology.concept.demoed/
-
it says for both m15x and m17x that i3 i5 and i7 be available.. now question is how much do i have to add to get the i7
-
wich i think is a ripp off because that is higher then it was before they offered the i5 -
any word yet on when the M17x will be out with the I7 i know it has been said possibly in the next week or 2 but any idea to a closer time frame then that
my M15x will ship out on the 15th and i don't want to have to end up returning it and waiting on a refund to take place before i can get the M17x but if i cancle the order and then have to reorder it it will be more -
But yeah thats a painful move from Dell imo.. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
they lowered their starting price and then added the option.....still is $1499 to get it with a 720, which is what it was all along if I am not mistaken
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yep still the same price
-
Err, maybe in the US... In Canada it is 100 more though..
Talk about a combo breaker.. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
In other countries you always get screwed on Dell/Alienware prices, this is nothing new
-
Yeah, well for 2 weeks we had hell of good deals (100$ off most of the SXPS & AW) but they just took it off..
I'll just wait, or buy something else.. -
Just spoke with the tech guys who replaced my XPS with an M17x. Which was sweet to begin with. They don't have any information about the i7 upgrade.
Spoke with their sales guys who DID have informeation but couldn't build the system because the software to configure didn't work like the 'personalise' page doesnt for the UK site.
I had it escalated to one of the managers who said that if I 'demanded' that the performance of my M17x was subpar that a new core i7 M17x would be better, then he would escalate it further for someone to call me about replacing it.
He also said that as it was a replacement system there are no returns. I do not qualify for the '7 day' returns policy we have in the UK, which is pretty shoddy. Is he right in this? Any information for me to be prepared for the managers next call would really help!
He did say that they don't have a lead time for delivery of the new i7 M17x but that it is highly unlikely to be in January.
Do you guys think I've got a chance? -
Why would you ever be upgraded to a Core i7 for a replacement machine that had a Core2Duo. It's already pretty awesome you're getting a next gen machine (i'm assuming you had an M1730). I just unboxed my M17x 2 days ago myself in the UK and I'd never have the cheek to ask for a Core i7 M17x (that isnt even offered yet).
I don't think you have a chance but if you get one more power to ya. -
...if you don't ask you don't get...
-
Ok, either way you can post in the Alienware Problems/Replacements thread that Batboy just set up so you can share your story with everyone (on topic)
-
-
any words on the m17x? is it still gonna be 1699 or its gonna go up
-
i cant see it staying at the same price if it does it will suffer in other specs i think for them to put a I7 in it i think they will start the pricing at 1899 maybe
-
Anandtech mentions the M17x refresh:
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
they will start it with an i5, so same price, but to get good performance it will of course cost more
-
Wouldn't they be forced to go i5 so it can still have switchable graphics? One of the big pluses of the M17x.
-
Everyone ignores the i7 dual-core Arrandales.
-
they should be
i will move away from aw for now ....i need to see something amazing to move me back -
I feel like selling my M17 now... how much do u think I can sell it for ?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
with the qx9300 and 4850s, probably around $2500 on ebay, not more than $2200 here though
-
The refreshed M17X should be available this week for order. It seems someone here confirmed it was going to be available for order in about two weeks in Singapore and usually the USA is served weeks ahead of the rest of the world...
It's offical, entire Alienware lineup gets refresh.
