Maybe you accidentally disabled Crossfire? Go into the Crossfire Command Center and make sure Catalyst AI is set to Standard or Advanced and not disabled.

    EDIT: lol @ BEAST-PC :p

I just installed the DNA driver in my own way. Unistalled all ATI through programs then ran driver sweeper. Re started then just installed the DNA setup. Restarted pressing F8 to disable driver enforcement and all was good.

Maybe it clocks down automatically when it's not needed? try running ATItool or something like that and watch the clocks via GPU-Z, see if the clokcs would rise up.

both ati tray tools and atitool knock out the DNA driver for some reason, it uninstalls the driver and forces a reboot after which I need to reinstall it..

i'm annoyed. going to bed, deal with it tomorrow

thanks for all the help guys

Right. If and when you do wake up, perhaps you can have GPU-Z log down the temps during a full run of Vantage, and then check the log again for the clocks, the tool actually jots those down as well.

Anyway, Marshall has his working so I doubt yours wouldn't. Maybe a clean reinstall of those DNA drivers, 9.4, would yield better results.

Aha...what are you guys like with all those darn facepalms!!

Maximus@ you will be alright in a couple of days when all the excitement has calmed down and you can think clearly.

Doesnt say a lot about Alienware that they cant provide good quality drivers with these superb cards....this is their job after-all.
I thought they ran benchmarks on every one of their PCs to make sure it was a high standard!!
I mean, I know you techies like playing about with these things yourself but not everone else does. They expect to go to their hive and have good drivers there and available for download.
    Alienware should not release these cards with crap drivers;

Facepalm for Alienware I say....just on this matter that is!

    their drivers work fine ;)

those kind of people won't care ........Also if you can't use a computer good enough to test driver and or know how to use them then *facepalm * to them
Anyway ....need to look into AW driver take out the device ID and put it in 9.7

Most of the people that buy these laptops are tech junkies like us, very few of them wouldn't know about drivers and things like that. ;)

Yeah fair point about Alienware owners being tech junkies and all. You would expect a good benchmark score straight away from a company that makes "high performance" notebooks thats all Im saying.

Did you ever see the advert on Utube where the dad buys his 2 irritating daughters an M15X a piece....that looks more like the type of people Alienware would like to sell to......loaded and clueless! (bet they dont argue over shipping fees...lol)

    IMHO.

Im sure you guys will get Maximus going and on the right track.

    good luck guys!

Clearly a driver problem id say if HWMonitor does not respond properly.

The main problem now will be, since not many companies release these new cards, will the existing ones be able to provide a driver soon ? Which they should already done before putting them in the laptop and selling them...

Or hopefully a new version of mobility modder :(

Have you made sure that in the OS power options you are in high performance mode (I am avoiding the alienware CC as I know nothing about it or how it works - and it shouldn't be needed at all - think it is more meant for the "preferrable customers" as mentioned above - e.g. dad and 2 girls. We can manage our own settings ;)). Set your OS and the ATI drivers both to maximum performance. verify with GPU-Z that BOTH GPUs are running at full clock speed. Be plugged in to ac adapter AND have battery in place.

Those scores (around 9k on GPU) are too low

The 9k score in Vantage is accurate, considering that Crossfire doesn't scale as well as SLi in Vantage, and since the clocks are at 500mhz core and 800mhz memory. Also, the 4800 series mobile cards are still bottlenecked by slower CPUs, which is another reason for those numbers. My W90 for instance, scores around 9300 with a P8600 at stock speeds (CPU and GPU). You can use SetFSB to pump the CPU speed a bit to see what happens, and also use GPUTool from Techpowerup to OC the GPUs and see what happens. Also, you can download HWMonitor 1.14 which can now read Mobility 4xxx GPU temps and voltages.

For one, the CPU is holding the CF 4850 back. Two, 4850's overclock well, but without that overclock performance can be lacking. Three, you need half decent drivers...

    Ok, back at home now,

downloading driver cleaner to get rid of any mess I've created and I'm gonna re-install 9.4 DNA

It seriously sucks that I have to hit F8 every time I reboot with those drivers otherwise they uninstall or fail

    :(

There are ways to by pass the Vista driver signature enforcement but you will have to do some digging because most of the stuff is dated from like Vista beta or pre SP1.

Ok, I'm about to break this thing lol

DNA 9.3's don't work. I used driver sweeper to clean out all the mess and did a completely fresh, clean install of the drivers after disabling the driver validation thing w/ f8 in the boot menu

Catalyst fails to load on startup and gives me this error:

and when I try to open it manually I get:

    I'm desperate for any help,

What was wrong with the stock drivers it came with for the moment ? Just load those back on and enjoy the machine for now until DNA or someone else updates the drivers properly instead of pulling your hair out .

Lol i was just offering a suggestion since the cards are so new and no one owns the yet except a few people. Give it a few days enjoy it "as is" and im sure you will get some great drivers . Or you can wrack your brain night and day and waste tons of time instead of enjoying the machine now :p.

why are you giving up so soon. all that is is that the ati drivers isn't installed and you only have ccc installed. just uninstall ccc and everything else and use driver sweeper and load up some new ones.

ccc is just looking for the cards but because you uninstalled them or they were not installed right it failed and gave that error

you don't need dna's just take out the device id and use someone elses. i myself haven't seen any increase in his drivers so i didn't really use them. and also make sure you have the right .net framework for it.
