Keep us updated. Make sure when you install the drivers you remove all 'wireless' devices in your device manager, restart your computer and it will not show the wifi adapter in network connections (part of control panel) and then install the killer network drivers and restart again.
I've seen people get given new cards and the same issue comes up with a completely different killer 1103 card as well. But its been ok for me so far.

Hi guys,
It keeps dropping out so I'm going to call Dell tomorrow morning and see what they tell me about this issue. Hopefully they will change the Killer wireless card for the Intel standard option. -
EDIT: just a thought, i think it might be worth checking which channel your router is on? and maybe switch over to 5ghz mode if possible.
inSSIDer is a good program to scan your lcoal networks and see which channel is congested. -
It's lame this problem, I found out that my router is stopping to respond.....
All other computers get suddently slower internet when the killer wireless fails....
just reboot of the router and we are fine again.
It's pretty weird, I have RT-N56U router, one of the faster routers (5ghz also) on the internet, gonna check some settings etc in my router.
This pretty much sucks, i don't know what happening and what already said, the Asus router should be handling this easy...
Ive had this dropout issues also in other places so it's not router related specific, but it's strange, what is the killer wifi doing with my router to get it down. -
How hard is it to swap the cards, if I end up getting an Intel card and ditch the Killer wireless card?
I hate the thought (heck, this was supposed to be an upgrade, not a heartache!) but hate the thought of internet connectivity issues more, and really don't want to send my machine back since I just got it... -
It's super easy, Jeffrey. Just take the bottom cover off and it's right there in plain view, and easily accessible.
-
EDIT: Checking the killer community page on Facebook I've found a comment from an user who says he has found a custom driver that got his network card to work fine on W8 64-bit. Going to give it a try. Link: Network Analysis Tools & Security Software by TamoSoft // CommView for WiFi Download
Do you know if Dell's tech service works in Easter?
Thanks. -
They should be open in easter I guess, just normal office hours probably.
Final try I would do is, uninstall all wireless drivers including removing any wireless devices in device manager, restart windows, after the restart windows will have no wireless adapters since there are no drivers installed. Try installing the latest drivers then. Don't install ontop I think I made that mistake a few times. Also if your running windows 8, did you disable 'fast startup' in the power options? -
I'll keep you updated.
Regards. -
disabled fast startup, disabled everything almost, put water on it, put it in a oven.
All settings possible related to the killer wireless program, bios, windows settings, nothing works..
I gonna drive with my car over it, maybe it works....
I get crazy of this problem, gonna call dell today for a replacement, to bad my killer wireless give me this bull......
It's driving me insane, i pay like 2500 euro and i get this , and really it shouldt do this.
Sorry for this, i just get frustrated and I hate it that i gonna call dell for a replacement intel wifi card.
:/
Just very pissed trying all things nothing works, then you think this works, next day you boot up and yeaahhhhhh party again, dropping etc.
I am curious why this happens, nobody really can tell what the problem is.
I see more things happening.
My connection locks up. (sometimes 1 time in a hour, sometimes 10 times in a hour, simple use the hardware button for wifi to restore connection, so turn off and on and there we go again).
Router sometimes get alot slower, need to reboot (happens after a connection lock up, lets call it like this).
Its looks like the killer wireless sending some information what let the connection hang or something.
It strange, on cable it working flawless, using my 160mbit internet np, big download, fast downloads, files copying np and fast.
On wireless its also very fast but then it locks occasionally, i got other fast wireless clients that have never drops or whatever. -
-
oops edit....
-
EDIT: By the way, what type of security are you guys using (can check that both under wireless network properties and your router security config panel)?
Regards. -
WPA2 personal I am using. Yeah i end up with the 5ghz band as well. But I dont have anymore issues with 2.4ghz at the moment.
-
. Well I am using WPA Personal don't really know if that could be the cause. Anyway, I haven't had any drop out since I am using that third party program along with the 10.0.1.71 driver and no network manager installed. It is curious how many people are having issues using Killer network cards on Windows 8, their page on Facebook is full of complaints about cards not working as they should... They say they are aware of the issue and are working on a solution. Hopefully they'll find what it's causing the issues and fix it finally.
I'll keep you updated as always. Thanks again.
-
, I stopped worrying too much now when a video stops buffering and that now. Hope you start having a bit more confidence in the card as well!
-
At last, it seems I can "forget" the fear of being disconnected from games... Fingers crossed!
I'll keep you updated. Regards. -

From left to right (facing the laptop) I have it black, Grey, white
According to the thread you referenced, one person said white on the left and another said black on the left (black = 2 post) so I'm not sure which to go with?

Does your 6300 have colour coded triangles? - if so, follow that. The correct way is as per my post #5 of that thread.

Hmm. Well the antenna's are in the lid - maybe they are not correctly positioned/attached. That's the only other thing I can think of because you have the drivers installed, correctly wired at the card end of things so something isn't quite right between the card connections and the antenna's in the lid panel. Does it connect if you move the machine next to the router?

It seems I squished the white cable underneath the hingesI took it out from under the hinges and it's intact but doesn't seem torn... Just squished.
I'll have to check to see if the cable near the top of the lid to see if things check out there..

Just upgraded my FIOS from 15/5 to 35/15 and the best I am getting is 20/15 so my upload speeds are what's advertised but not my download speeds. I have the Killer Wireless 1103 in my M18x R1. Do you guys have any recommendations on getting advertised speeds like I did before with 15/5?
Thanks! -
An update from me - just got off the phone after a troubleshooting session with mine (m18xR2 w/ the 1103 card) and the AW rep said that they'd been working with the Killer Wireless folks to try to 'escalate' the issue. They said they knew it was a driver issue, not a hardware issue, but had no resolution as of yet, and the standard response was to ship out an Intel 6300 card and have a tech install it (I asked, they would only allow the part to be shipped to the tech and the tech do the work).
So, my 6300 card is inbound - hope the tech is decent (though, based on Mr Fox's comment, sounds like it's not rocket science!) For others, if you have issues, sounds like it's the 6300 card until they get them resolved.
Another minor issue - I was told the tech would be taking the 1103 back with him or her, and I wouldn't get to hang on to it. If and when the issues were resolved, the AW rep said they'd send the tech back out to swap it again. When I asked, I was told that, despite having paid for a premium card in the system that I didn't have and couldn't use, there would be no compensation offered. I asked why, and was told this was 'a recent problem, only in the last month or so'. I pointed out our little forum here addressing the problem had actually started back in September of last year, and the problem had persisted for a while... but the tech rep maintained that there would be no compensation offered for the issue.
I dunno, guys and gals - I'm angry right now, so I'll take a step back and ask you all as bystanders. Am I out of line here, expecting to get compensation for that? -

I'd have recommended you just bought the card yourself so you could always resale the killer card if you wanted to. Just my ten cents
-
Hmmm... that's a good thought, since I'm not getting anything else out of the deal - honestly, that hadn't occurred to me. Might just do that!
-
For less than $25, I would just buy the Ultimate-N 6300 outright. If Killer can ever make their hardware work properly again with better drivers you can put the 1103 back in later on. I am surprised that Alienware is continuing to offer the Killer 1103 instead of the Intel 6300 considering the poor track record with the 1103.
-
Even worse than them offering it is that it is the "Dell Recommended" component for wireless cards. Why would they recommend something that doesn't work right? I was going to call and complain since it has been nothing but issues since I got the computer in January, but I don't really have the time to spend on the phone with them "troubleshooting" an issue that they can do nothing about to then maybe have a chance of getting a different card or partial refund. If the Alienware reps are seeing this you should really not be recommending a card that has known issues.
-
I got it to work right as of now with no drop outs anymore but it's annoying since not everyone has a router with that requirement. I may end up buying an Intel card so I can be confident if, for example, I wanna play somewhere else and no proper router is present there... That's pretty annoying in my opinion.... Let's hope Killer figure out what the issue is and fix it.
By the way, Atheros released a new driver a few days ago. Might be worth trying....
Regards. -
Update on my system: tech took the back off, and noticed that the wires (white, grey, black) weren't actually connected. one was kinda wrapped on, but the other two were completely disconnected - and none of them had the little connector on the end to allow them to be connected properly. So, yeah, that was at least part of the problem.
Tech is going to order a new set of wires (to get the connectors) - but this will require completely breaking down my system to remove the old ones from behind the screen. Can't say I'm excited about this - I was kind of hopeful we could take the connectors off of the new wires, put 'em on the ones in place, and fire it up...
Anyway, at least part of the issue seems to be wires not properly connected from the factory. Very frustrating. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
see if you can just get a new display. Its all one assembly anyway and much easier to swap then just the wires.
-
Funny you should mention that - that's exactly what they ended up doing! I was a little concerned, but the tech this time seemed to know his way around the m18x (unlike the first tech, whom while able to quickly diagnose the disconnected wires, needed my help to figure out how to get the back panel off initially...)
Anyway, this tech seemed pretty good - got the system broken down, then disassembled my old back panel to get the hinges off (as the new LCD panel they sent didn't include the hinge assembly). reassembled, everything worked, and with the 1103 card still in there I now see 14 wireless networks, where before I only had the two associated with the house plus my closest neighbor for a total of 3.
I'm hopeful this means the 1103 card is behaving for me, and I won't actually have to swap it after all. I don't currently do a lot of online gaming, so I don't really have a good feel if I'm getting occasional drops/reconnects like some folks have been reporting - but at least for now, it looks like I'm up and running! -

New drivers on the killergaming website and downloaded it, now it's gone o.0.
I geuss they brought a bugged update
This the name: KillerSetup_6_1_0_571-110x-1202-2200-Windows-7-8-64bit
To bad it was again a bugged driver and not installing the LSP correctly.

OK, good news, my reception is much improved now that the antenna wires are connected.
Bad news - now I seem to have the same drop out issue that many have reported. Nothing certain - but I noticed tonight just playing StarCraft II tonight, I got some big hiccups....
Oh, and also - didn't notice at the time, but my 'new' lid has a couple of small scratches on it on the corner. Nothing big, they're like 1/8 of an inch long (so I didn't notice them right away), but still annoying. I should have looked much closer when he was installing - though, guess I don't know what I'd have been able to do, not like he had a lot of lids to choose from... -
Atheros & Zidas drivers
Those are the best drivers I've used so far (BETA ones nonetheless) no major issue. My dropout issue has dissapeared since, but I usually run on 5ghz channel as well. -
Regards. -
On the killer website!
Version: 1.0.14.1014 BETA
I am gonna try this, very curious
EDIT: i am testing this baby now and looks promising, alot of options has been take out the wireless agent of killer and
the driver if finally new!!! so having good hopes!
Sjoerd -
Please inform us how the beta drivers work
-
Had already a minor lock up but didnt need rebooting, just exiting my game starcraft 2 was enough.
Was downloading game data and I think starcraft2 bugged, not the killer, and if, its a beta.
trying now certain scenarios but will see, will report end of the day or end off my wifi connection haha
EDIT: Also when you check your wifi adapter settings (where you have all the options like adhoc, buffer etc)
They took alot out of the settings, really giving me high hopes because off all the drivers I tested this really looks like a different driver (it is lol).
EDIT2: question, If you change the wifi adapter settings, and you uninstall the drivers + manager etc.
When you install new drivers will the adapter configurations will be reset, or is it already reset when deleting the drivers? (uninstall killer)..
Because i am afraid of having my custom settings what i don't want with this new drivers...
Sjoerd -
I think they are reset when you uninstall driver. Hey did they change the killer network manager interface?
-
yes, they changed it to windows 8 style or something like that, I already turned it off because now there or NO options, only monitoring and bandwidth control.
So far stable. -
Please test if any lag spikes, or internet is not connected msg during heavy downloads
-
Al goes very smooth i do that, but why don't you try yourself?
It's pretty stable and what are your normal problems with the killer hardware?
EDIT: I have no lag spikes or performance issues.
I can stream and game @ the same moment without lag spikes.
Downloading on 160MBIT also no problem on 5Ghz -
-
I dont have a Killer card at the moment ):
