I honestly dont think they will launch the new GPUs with the M15x . Thats not say its not a good idea though but personally i feel it would steal to much thunder away from the M17x(Speculation of course).
-
-
But with single GPU's it won't be as powerful (M15x).
So, they could do that and not lure away anyone that really wants a dual-gpu system (M17x).
(I am being way too optimistic!) -
Yes you are being to optimistic.
But if it were the new ATI tech going in there it could be some very powerful stuff and give the M17x a run for its money. I dont see that happening personally . Again its not that i dont want it to happen, i just dont see it happening . Hopefully i am wrong. -
I hear ya.
Although, Dell could always add a CF option for the M17xwith the new cards.
-
combined with the aluminum chasis & excellent cooling..you'd have a nice system.

That and ATI needs someone to market that new shiny GPU in an actual system....by itself it is nothing
Aren't new notebook parts usually showcased with new notebook systems? And who better to showcase a gaming GPU with than Alienware.....(they are immensely more known than Clevo to the "normal" world haha) -
.
-
I already have an RMA and UPS label from Dell. It has already been printed and put on the box, just in case! -
Unless Alienware got some exclusive deal with ATI i just dont see it happening that fast . Also would they really release that new tech in the M15x and not have it ready for the M17x ? Possibly . It might be launched in both machines though at the same time i guess is another possibility.
But the release of the A02 bios was indicating a DDR3 ATI card ? thats a far cry from there new tech they just spoke about. -
ATI is claiming 1.6x the performance from RV870 over the RV770. That puts one 5870 card close to performance of Crossfire 4870s at a fraction of the power consumption.
My bet for the first Mobility 5850/70 is in MSI's planned 17" i7 notebook....but it won't be in Crossfire. -
Well, if performance is as good as claimed, then I won't really care about CF
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
yes you will, because 2 is always better than 1
-
If one 5870 is near equal to two 4870's, I'll be more than fine with a single gpu
Trust me. I am the one willing to live with a single 280M in my M17x. -
Also have to remember we're dealing with Dell here, who released the Studio XPS 16 with 3000 series cards after the Mobility 4000 series cards were already launched.
PCs take time to design and build and seeing as AMD is holding a big event to show off their cards to manufacturers and press I don't think it's likely they've handed out any engineering sample cards to OEMs yet. -
Hmmmm... I think if it became available, I would shell out the cash for a single 5870... If they're as powerful as claimed. Remember, ATI has had a habit of overstating the power of their chips for a long time...
-
What the GPU industry needs to do is work out the connection bandwidth issues with XGPs so we can upgrade with desktop cards bought from Newegg.
-
I really think external solutions would work well. No one seems willing to develop it properly though
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Can't forget though.....Flextronics, the ODM here, had the 3870 cards when NO ONE else did
We know they get along with ATI just fine -

I will always prefer an internal solution to an external one....
External would require an additional AC power adapter, be potentially quite loud, and add quite a bulkiness factor to the laptop -
I was only half serious about the XGP. I'd like to see them but don't expect to for awhile yet.
-
I'm glad I canceled my order that was placed last Saturday. I think I'm going to wait for i7 and the 5800s (this combo in a 15" would be awesome).
-
How do you even know they're releasing one now?
All this speculation from a lightened picture... -
Something is coming. lol
Whether or not it has the cpu and gpu everyone wants is another matter.... -
-
It's going to be the M13x with a P9700 and a 40-nm Mobility HD4830 or GT S 260M.
-
I'd give that a look. Depends on how the GTS260 performs
-
Even if it used the 1600x900 res that the Sony Vaio Z uses I'm sure it would be plenty powerful enough.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
it is supposed to be just shy of the current GT X260m
-
^
That would be pretty cool in a 13". We shall see! -
I heard it's a bit faster then a 9800m gt but not quite a. 9800/260
-
Well, today's deals are up. No Alienware...
