Exactly.
The NDA expires on, you guessed it, Wed!

Good I was afraid of something like 2am here.

Only thing that still has me somewhat puzzled is the fact that currently there is no i7 IGP solution atleast that we know of ?. The M15x will be all about portability and battery life so even with a single discrete GPU it will be slurping quite abit of power compared to an IGP . I guess they could do a smart bay thing again like last time and have the dvd drive come out and in place of it a spare battery though . It would be silly though if the M17x had better battery life because of the lack of an IGP.

Yeah they are working on them but it all takes lots of time and honestly they only have to move as fast as there competitors do . When the new ATI cards hit the new machines you can bet your bottom that Nvidia will be right there ready to release something . Nvidia already has quite a few new GPUs in the latest drivers they release so clearly they have something big planned . -

Think it is time for me to consider dumping Nvidia like yesterday's news.... -
Well the issue there is even though the G92 is old as dirt they still hold there own just fine against the 4850s in the W90,M17,MSI machines. Nvidia has such a strong influence on what happens in the games industry that they knew all along they could get away with releasing older tech and still be fine. ATI has had DX10.1 in there cards for quite sometime now and yet only a handful of games actually take advantage of that tech because the lack of Nvidia using it and the extra cost it would have been to add to games just for ATI's sake. I will be focusing my future on ATI now , in the past i didnt want to have anything to do with ATI really but i hate Nvidias arrogant attitude, so ATI will be getting my money most likely.
-
guys guys guys
the clevo is getting ATI 4870XT as well -
at launch?
-
they are listing it as a option
eurocommmwas last i heard
-
thats not the same one as the W90 is it?
-
don't think so .....
not sure
can't remember what they were called the m17 was M98XT i think
so yea it might be 4850's but i still would take them over 280's
if i don't get ATI cards soon its a Desktop for me ( i5 2.66 ghz and a nice Asus Mobo ... around 600 ) -
doesn't sound like a worthy upgrade
-
for you no but when the 4850's were only 555$ for the M17 i am expecting alot cheaper then getting new 260/280's
and i will have lots of places to get them -
Justin confirmed they are not getting the 4870xt.
-
is it technical issues ???
as in hardware or software problems ...
or some other issues ???
-
Its not the first time Clevo announced having ATI cards and then not actually getting them .

I am with you Quad....time to give my money to companies that innovate and develop new technologies! Bye bye Nvidia
-
you jumped ship quick....lol
-
Stealthmode could also disable 2 cores and Turboboost to save some juice. -
I thought Justin from XoticPC said the Clevo wasn't getting the 4870s after all?

Yep. See this post.
No 4870XT -

as for the IGP/i7 comment a couple pages back
no one knows what this new mobile chipset will be for i7, but I cannot imagine Intel making a mobile chipset with out any IGP designed in - remember, this is not going to just be an x58 again, otherwise it would take the desktop cpus like the D900f
SO, my thinking is there will DEFINITELY be an IGP, just one of intels crappy ones (since they are not letting nvidia near i7 for a chipset)
-
I doubt it, scook.
Word is, all the mobile i7's are going to use the P55 chipset.
With some craftiness on AW's part, and motherboard could be made with an IGP. Not sure if they are going to go through all the trouble, though... -
-
I was thinking that Dell might pull a fast one on launch day (due to their sheer size and pull in the industry).
But, then I realize that it is Dell. And to keep costs down they are most likely to be using what they already have (260/280). -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
And if that IS the case...is a shame, the p series chipsets are very limited on PCI-e lanes, that is why we never get more than x8 to each card (and this is the real problem of the desktop P55 that not many people address) -
It's what I have heard.
We shall find out in 4 DAYS!!
Oh, if IIRC, I think the P55 chipset supports x16 to one gpu (which the M15x will only have 1, right?). -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
so did the PM45...but it still got hardwired x8 x8 in the whitebook/M17 (that way assuming there will be multicard they save on a PCI-e mux chip)

From techpowerUP!
About Intel PM55 Ibex Peak-M Chipset
An Intel Mobile Express Series 5 chipset (PCHM codenamed Ibex Peak) with Intel's graphics technology that will allow for optimized decoding/encoding and editing/playback of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video used in Blu-Ray Discs and HD 1080p video, optimized for MPEG-2 (DVD) video playback and editing.
Integrated memory controller and integrated PCI express controller remove the need for a Northbridge and the older FSB (Front Side Bus) technology.
Direct connect to Display Port with DPCP as with its predecessor along with legacy support for HDMI (and HDCP), DVI, and VGA.
RAM supported for DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM.
Gigabit Ethernet LAN controllers 82577LM and 82577LF (codenamed Hanksville).
Solid-State Drive and Hybrid Hard Drives support -

the g and p series chipsets are nearly identical......they could still do g55 as well as p55
like I said, I cant imagine they will shoot themselves in the foot that bad. especially when battery life is sensitive as it is with an i7 in a notebook -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
and sadly as mentioned before, i would expect an x4500hd at best, unless they updated it so is now x5500hd (still crappy though) -
IGP is going onto the CPU come Arrandale dual cores....but only on some of them. The Intel chipsets are already designed with that in mind which is why they don't have an IGP.

I saw that as well
Meh. As long as I can remove my own battery (hello, Apple?) I'll be ok. -

I stopped worrying about battery life back when I still had my hp dv9260nr....
I have an ipod touch for battery life haha -
And sometimes switchable graphics can be a pin in the a$$, really.
It's a nice feature but NOT a dealbreaker for me.... -

I stopped worrying about battery life when I bought the smart bay battery.

But if you boot the M17x with AC unplugged, then plug it in and want discreet, you have to reboot.
It was gimmicky at best (for me). Then you have driver issues, etc. -
why i don't do it
-
The number of times I've plugged everything in, then realised I hadn't flipped the wall switch, d'oh!
If I do this by accident, just Press F2 and set Graphics to Hybrid Enabled (yet again), and Save/Exit.
[Bad Dobby - Off Topic]
I wish Alienware would have an optional setting to allow Hybrid to automatically be enabled when there's AC. I think this may also have contributed to many negative first experiences of owners who quickly turn their M17x on out of the box to test, and then wonder why (later on when plugged in) they get poor performance.
Whaddya reckon?

Question to Moo or Sleey0....in your opinions, do you think their will be a new M17x next week? Or is this Landfall stuff really all about the smaller models changing?
