Hi first time I'm posting in this forum and I've to say I've enjoyied very much of the imagination around all the new commercials by the way they are in there way creepy.

My doubts:

If it's comming a new M15X will it come with ati gpu and if so will it be upgradable with the comming HD DX11?

I'm thinking that AW is also going to blast with the surprise option of purchasing with the new atis because of this article : http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15568/1/

We all know that the HD4870's are suppose to be similar to their desktop counterparts. I came across a thread for the original release of the W90 when it was sporting dual 4870's. Tests were showing 3dmark06 scores of over 20K.

Orb is showing stock single HD4870 Mobility in Vantage at about 6600. No info on what CPU was used.

 

There's no guarantee you'll be able to. It's not like upgrading cards on desktops.

But I see your point .... Turns out aw did in fact have 4870s and they had them setup online for the techs to order but seems the ddr5 had issues / has issues which is why we haven't seen them.


What is nice is they came through with 4850s but it sucks how it was new only: least they came through In the end ....

 

well let's just hope that AW put in the gpu options "upgreadable ati DX11 option when out to market" that'd be great

 

Are you talking about the new m15x or whatever they call the new 15 inch lappy? Or did I miss a previous post? OMG if you are right I'm in some serious trouble lol. I promised my wife an m15x last week, I was taking some time deciding about the configuration and a couple of days ago they removed it from their site and I could'nt place the order. Since I found this thread I could calm her down telling her a NEW one similar to my M17x would be out next week, but if it will start shipping next year I'd better be abducted soon lol. Armaggedon is coming ..... Indeed

That makes me think the 4870's are coming next week.

 

Does anyone think that even though there will probably be no new M17x next week that maybe they will make different vid cards avalible for them?

 

Anything is possible at this point . So speculate till your blue in the face(or till you look like Thrawn) because thats all we can do till then .

 

why would it make you think that...the 4850s for the M17 are a whole other ballpark (in compatibility and performance)

I highly doubt they would remove the 4850 option so that they can introduce the 4870 as an option....the difference in performance will not be more than the difference between the GTX 260m and GTX 280m on the M17x yet both are offered there

That AND if they offer the 4870's on the M17, it will be able to beat out the M17x - their current "flagship" model which they will not want to happen

If anything, they removed the 4850 option as the M17 was eating up their M17x sales since the performance was almost matched for a much lower price

 

Im about to order a new M17x, and I am waiting to see if they change to HD4870x2 crossfire. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed. I think Nvidia's next gen mobile cards will truly be based on the 280 chipset...I believe they are calling them GeForce 300 series. No word if they will be 512 bit memory architecture like the 280 desktop cards.

 

I can imagine all the frenzy that will be happening here when Alienware finally makes their plans public.

The speed at which these laptop manufacturers upgrade thier gpus is kind of intimidating. Im going to order the new 15 inch as soon as it becomes available but I'm going to be pretty dissapointed if january comes and they overhaul the whole line with substantially beefier cards.

 

Well if they launch with a 280 then do expect by january something better will be available. Honestly though the tech has not moved all that fast since the 280/260s are based on the G92(old as dirt) nvidia tech.

 

In the 186.91 driver, support is mentioned for the GeForce 350/360M GTX cards from Microsoft. The rumor is that these cards are going to be made available for release alongside Windows 7. This would put them out by October 22nd.

It would be interesting to see Alienware announce SLI 360M GTX cards on the M17x with Windows 7. In addition, perhaps 750 gig hard drives? 512 gig SSDs?

 

Ya g92 has been out since early 2008. It IS a nice architecture though....that said, I am quite ready for some new tech in the mobile nvidia world

 

i keep it with Uroboros, if they launch something better in january, i would wait, but on the other hand, i like Moo´s offer to tell noob´s (me) how to fix my computer

I think AW is going to launch the option to choose between Nvidia GPU and Ati GPU, offering some kind of discount in the new graphic cards for notebooks when out to the market; this will make the buyers to order the laptops and AW to sell the old stock and than receive upgrade orders making a litle bit more money.

 

i wonder if AW will offer a 4 dimm option like the voodoo envy 15? that would be cool, but unlikely because it would take away from the M17x

Hi everyone (first post)

I've been following the M15x threads page to page and I can't wait until it's released

I know it may seem stupid (and I have seen the shadowed out first picture indicating 1 laptop and 2 desktops) if alienware relased and ultraportable (say 12-13").

Im saying this (based on the teaser hints) because if you look very closely at the boys T-shirt in the first video has on it the number 12.

I think each video tries to hint at it's computer counterpart and we might well see a third teaser representing the third alienware release (three alien heads again).

Might sound like rubbish, but hey, gotta waste some time before Wednesday
