Sorry to burst your bubble BUT initial reports are that the i7920XM will be faster than the QX9300 (and rightfully so).
Not just 1 core can oc. In fact, all cores could if thermals and power are right![]()

Agree with Sleey0 - seems even the 1.73 Ghz 820QM could offer pretty much identical performance to QX9300, means that the extra clock of i7-920XM ought to leave the 2.53 Ghz in dust.

maybe...just maybe, they made real aliens that are planning to land...

Godzilla, anyone? -
You should take a look at the M6400 Covet from dell . RGB LED, nice video cards, backlit keyboard etc. They run Quadro versions of the Nvidia cards but there still very fast and they have lots of screens to chose from . Its going to set you back quite abit though. -
He will never be happy ..... No screen is good enough for him .... Search his post and threads
-
Not true, the CMO on the fujitsu lifebook n6460(?) had the best screen I've seen so far.

You may need to forget about having a machine with a great screen and video card and just grab that machine back if you still can
. Clevo will be releasing those LED screens in there new machines that i pointed out to you before but i doubt honestly they will be using an top tier panels because of the costs associated with that . Maybe you should look to Apple ? they have some beautiful screens and the 9600m. Not great but not horrible either . You can dual boot with win 7 and have a machine with a ton of battery life if thats your thing

-
Well i have a xps 16 coming tomorrow with the RGB LED screen.

to the one who asked about the desktop i7's and their OC headroom...
It is pretty easy to get a 50% OC on an i7 920 up to 4 GHz.......
Odds are the fastest of the mobile i7 chips will be higher performance than the QX9300 (at stock speeds, we will see how it overclocks) but I am betting it will be able to hold its own rather well (dont forget it will run 8 threads.....)
In the desktop, i7 only mattered for gaming where multi card setups were concerned. CF and SLI got a good boost from the new architecture so I would assume we will see the same in the laptops, SLI and CF will benefit from it, single card setups will not have a discernable difference (just like the desktops were). Although i have to note, the performance was good for clock to clock comparisons between core 2 and i7, given the lower clocks of the mobile i7 parts, we shall see how it all plays out -
Im going to assume that the thermal footprint inside of the new m15x will not support SLI/Crossfire. However, the i7 boosting sli would certainly lend credence to Alienware offering it in the M17x.
Im wondering how easy it will be to OC a 1.73 to match the 2.0's speed. We'd need an OC unit that can manage the Turbo Boost clock as well. If I can get the .mib files for the architecture I could take a crack at writing a mod app. This of course assumes that the motherboard doesn't manage this in the bios. -
offside: fianlly managed to read waht it says on the allpowerful.com site, it says "let armageddon begin"
if you don't believe me, write on the personalized plate that and it will have the same letters.
on topic, i wouldn't like an i7 on the new m15x or w/e they are going to name it. i would like more an i5, with all due respect to all of you. -
I'm going for the i7 820
Should be good for the pricepoint -
how much do you think it will cost?
btw, when is that they are making it public? -
Should be Wednesday evening around 9pm-10pm PST. It is being announced at the tokyo game show.
-
As for cost, not sure.
People around here have quoted tray prices for these cpu's, but that doesn't take into account the sheer volume of Dell sales and the ability for them to include costs into the laptop. -
Man...for all this hype and marketing I'm really hoping this isnt a M17x clone...the spaceship picture showed some interesting lights on the front/back/side/whatever but I think those were added for effects and not part of the actual laptop. M17x design is great but I think I may actually pass and just use my VAIO for another year if they make an exact clone, M17x design is JUST slightly too bulky IMO.
-
k, thanks.
you may continue your i7 OC discussion and wether it has a RGB LED screen or not -
it would have been better if i had found out that you(sleey0) had the alienware font before i put myself to the task of translating the page.....
thanks for the font BTW -
Ummm it was translated about a hour after it was put up ...

:'(
*sobbing* -
Sorry for the offtopic but is there a place where I could find the font? Would love to write stuff on wallpapers with it.

thanks slee0
Man I can't wait to see what the new m15x will look like -
any idea yet whether the new m15x will have the same battery life as the old m15x? I really liked the idea of being able to squeeze out 3hours of decent powered gaming on battery with the smart bay.

Engadget finally got their lazy butts to post something.

When TGS starts all showcases are displayed on the first day correct? It would kill me if I have to wait yet a day longer!!

Is it possible to have SLI in a 15'' laptop ?
What kind of GPU the m15x will have in your opinion ? -
I hope for an ATI card but I think they'll be the same old 260/280. -
ok, thanks for your quick answer
i hope for a top notch ATI too, and i'd be very disappointed if it would be a 260/280 :/
by the way, nvidia 300's series are supposed to be released very soon no ?
<dream> It would be nice to have these in the m15x</dream>

However, AW is claiming to be releasing seomthing that will ROCK the gaming world.
-
G300 architecture is looking at December for launch but there's nothing confirming the mobile 300 series will be using that tech.
-
They'd have to remove the optical drive to fit dual GPUs in a 15" notebook. Especially if they've finally conformed to 16:9 and went with a 15.6" screen. ;þ
-
does anyone know when will them next gen GTX300 series card be released ???
-
hum ok
can't wait for tomorrow though -
I'm not gonna be able to sleep at all tonight; tommorow I'm not gonna be able to focus in class at all. I really hope this(these?) announcement(s) will live up to all our expectpectations, while still in our price range
-
say if the M15x comes with a ATI 9000 Mobility card just so that the battery life is superior to the other laptops of that size ...
that would be a great thing too wouldnt it ???
