Thats I'm doing. I've put off getting an M17x to wait and see what we'll get in tommorows Invasion. I'm hoping for an ATI card(5### please :D ), an i7, and more than 4gbs of RAM, all for hopefully under 3 grand.

Tommorow really will be Armageaddon; Lots of flames, or lots of love

Alienware launching new M15x laptop and Aurora / Area-51 ALX desktops at TGS
by Darren Murph posted Sep 22nd 2009 at 11:17AM

Wondering what all those teasers were about? So were we, and now we've got the skinny on what exactly is looming at the Tokyo Game Show. For starters, you may have noticed that Alienware has completely removed the option to purchase an Area-51 m15x gaming laptop except in refurbished form, and the only desktop remaining in the store is the Area-51 X58, which is conveniently discounted today. The reason? It's launching five of its most powerful creations yet on September 23rd (that's tomorrow, bub), including the quickest 15-inch lappie in the galaxy (the all-new M15x) as well as the dual-GPU Aurora / Aurora ALX desktops. Finally, a refreshed Area-51 and Area-51 ALX will also be on tap, though exact specifications for the whole lot won't be revealed until the 23rd. Oh, and we'll totally be on hand in Japan to provide all the hands-on media you can stand, so stay tuned!

So these new laptops are all but confirmed to have mobile i7, which is also to launch tomorrow?

I'm sure that these will be able to accept the mobility HD5000 cards when they come out in early 2010, it would also be nice if these had Expresscard 2.0 slots for external GPUs as well though. :)

Sweet..everythings confirmed now it looks like, now we just get to play an epic waiting game. I'll facepalm if the ATI option the M15x releases with is a 4850 DDR3. See all you guys tomorrow night, such a LONG time between now and tomorrow 9pm!

This is going to be tough. I'm hoping parts trickle down to the M17X. I want that machine with an i7 and dual 4870's. But this new M15X could sway me.

What is the most powerful feature rich mobile GPU at the moment? Is it still gtx280m? Or does ATI have something more compelling?

As far as a SINGLE gpu goes? It's the 4870 DDR3, Ichime broke the single card record in Vantage for it. There is a 4870XT (XT meaning upclocked 4870) DDR3 that surfaced briefely with the new 15' i7 Clevo but Clevo quickly pulled the card as an option for supposed lack of supply. All I'm saying is at the VERY least Alienware can release a single 4870XT or a 4850 DDR5, I'd be very dissapointed if the ATI option is a regular 4850, won't do the trick for me while we wait on those 5k series in 0'10

Yeah thinking single GPU since the M15X will more than likely be a single GPU notebook. So if this is being tauted as the most poweful 15" notebook then currently if supply is not an issue then 4870?

I'm kinda late on this Landfall/Invasion/Allpowerfull ...... So is this release of new laptops going to be better than the M17X? I got mine in production status. If this is something better than the M17X, i might cancel. :)

I noticed a line somewhere earlier today that stated something like this: “We will shake the gaming world to its foundation” …
This is my “best-ever” moment to by the AW’s laptop (wanted it for the past 3 years). Allowed budget is around $4Gs, now just waiting for tomorrow.
Also, one question for you guys. So, after seeing so many different opinions to ATI’s 4870 favor over Nvidia’s GTX 280M, would it be safe to say that ATI’s chip would be a superior choice?

if there is a 4870 with ddr5 then yes definitly if not then it's really up to the user if you prefer having a nnew architecture (ati) or an old kinda reused(nvidia) sins both gives around the same perf
