-
hihihihihihi, good one lordqarlyn
i´m going for one myself and my girl will freak out too -
I am wondering if the company who made the M17x are also the same people that makes the M15x ???
Is this the case ???
-
more then likely flextronics will be the ODM
-
-
yes
as well as the m17/whitebook
-
that M17/whitebook didnt do too well did it ???
-
the whitebook was a great machine as well as the m9750
-
and it was stuttering badly ...
so someone came up with project freeze ...
-
mine never had issues
what do you think happens when you overclock a quad core to 3+ ghz >
and overclock the 3870's? -

i am getting an alienware desktop as a christmas present i am hoping for a small form factor desktop. did alienware get rid of amd i dont see their gpu or is alienware just waiting for 5000 series radeons and new desktop is amd based
-
It's jus a new case ....
-
different desktop design when do you think they will be announced tomorrow? alienware said in days
maybe 1 of the laptops is a nvdia ion nettbook -
Will there ever be a M13x? Would love to see a 128-bit GPU in an aluminium chassis. Something like the newly announced 40nm GT 230M.
As for the M15x, i'm hoping Alienware will be the first to offer the 40nm GTS 250M (w/ GDDR5, of course).
It seems kind of likely actually. The 8800M GTX has the exact same specs as it's rebranded successor, the 9800M GT. And the newer GTS 250M also has the exact same specs as these two (including clock speeds, shader count, etc) with the only exception being a 128-bit bus instead of a 256. But this is compensated by the GDDR5 memory which effectively gives it a 256-bit memory bus anyway.
8800M GTX l 9800M GT l GTS 250M
Also, both the 8800M GTX and the 9800M GT have a 65W TDP, but the GTS 250M only has a 28W TDP. Which means it would run a heck of a lot cooler and probably significantly improve battery life with the improved core architecture whilst providing a slight improvement in performance.
The M17x went with the newer 200-series ( GTX 280M) so maybe... The only thing bad about this would be no DX11 support but that's mainly due to NVIDIA and we won't see that till next year at the earliest.
Oh, and I hope this thing is A LOT more subtle looking than the M17x. Thinner, cleaner and more compact would be nice with an LED display and an improved thermal design. I mean, if the GPU runs cooler than why not? Unless they plan on providing a more powerful, or hotter running, GPU such as a single GTX 280M. Couple this with a dual core and it's almost perfect for providing both mobility and gaming in a notebook.
Edit:
Ok, I realized after posting this that they'll probably just go with a single GTX 280M. -
Now what will not shock me is an core i5 mobile based announcement.
I'l put a bet on 9/9/09 -
just saying this like that after i purchased my m17 alienware took me through a survey and it was talking about a gaming netbook ....

My m17x would be used as a desktop when I am at home, my destination, or have an extremely long layover.
While actually travelling, the netbook would be used for communicating, browsing, light productivity with Open Office. It would be much easier to pull in and out of my carryon and would have a great battery life.
Of course gaming while travelling would be with my DSi.... -
Ailenware is Dell's Gaming brand, and unless it speaks flash games an netbook would just not work, and high performance machine of that size would overdraw the battery and the heat thrown off even an 9600gt would make the things Keyboard melt, due to poor ventilation capability. -
Not every sub-12 inch notebook is a netbook.
-

But, as I said, the netbook would not be used for gaming. AW would probably make it for AW geeks with more money than sense. I'd gladly buy an AW-style netbook because the design is so cool, especially with the LEDs. But I would never use it for gaming even on the road. That's what my Nintendo DSi is for....
-
I'd be one to welcome a 13" notebook, note: not netbook.
As mentioned above saying netbook and alienware in the same sentence is a tad insane but a 13" doesn't seem as insane to me.
Will be interesting to see what they can come up with. -

In the past, AW was synonymous with gaming (and still is).
Dell, however, is a marketing MACHINE and I wouldn't put it past Dell to get out an AW-branded netbook (or small notebook). -

lol....exactly my point!
-
i want a netbook as a secondary computer when i browse the internet away from home or outside of my room backyard etc. i am already getting christmas present alienware destop under 2 grand it will need a sharp looking friend under 500.00 -
i think alienware could use a 13 inch notebook what i would like is for the m17x not to 11.6 pounds they should not be 1990s portable
and the battery life could be more than 2 hours please -
When is this thing gonna come up? I'm trying to get a buddy to buy one of these things in exchange for a BS flawed Studio XPS 13 he got.. This mystery nonsense is pissing me off.
Hurry up and put it up on the site already.
Anyone has any wild guess on when this thing is supposed to be up for sale? Maybe this coming week? -
I see no problem with the m17x being 11.6 pounds. Its ment as a desktop replacement for gamers that wont be taken to the local starbucks or around town. And what can you expect from an aluminum laptop with a magnesium chassis and dual graphics cards. From what i hear the m17xs battery isnt all that bad.
-
-
My guess is Monday, WaR.
-
when do you think production will start on them? on announcement or a couple months/weeks down the road
-
. Considering it said "days" until landfall I would assume this fits in the timeframe and there would be not a better marketing technique to unveil a machine(s) at a major expo like PAX besides E3 of course
-
Whether we can order it or not on Monday is another issue all together
-
wont be long after ... they do want the college crowd
-
I hope your right, moo.
I need to make a final decision with my M17x by 9/22..... -
I need to decide by this coming week so I'd like to see what they come up with. Monday or Tuesday is fine. Anyone hear anything about the new cases for desktops? Also are they introducing new desktop hardware with it or just the case?

i take mine to class every day

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Fingers crossed on a Tuesday
Come on, land already.
-
I doubt they will put it on the site on Monday being a holiday, Tuesday sounds like perfect timing.
-
Doesn't matter either way to me (mon vs tues).
As long as I can make a decision by 9/22 I am good -
Just get both and the M15x can be your official flagging system.
-
I was using my M17x in "there" the other day and it is too heavy for that.
The M15x would be MUCH better suited for that use -
Yeah, I don't actually use my M17x as a laptop and will probably end up selling it off faster than most.
-
Did that XPS you had the other day not work out drake ? i know from all i have read on it in the past you could cook an egg on the palmrest when its underload ?.
