Not me, I am quite pleased with my M17x....but I am interesting in finding out more about the new m15x. Would like to know if I should get it for my stepdaughter for her birthday/christmas/welcome-to-america present....

I called Dell to return it before even turning it on. It was cosmetically damaged.

I'd want something smaller if anything like the M15x. Possibly that new 15" mobile i7 Clevo. We'll see, no rush. Still plenty of benchmarking to do with the M17x.

Lol ive been tempted to try out that Clevo myself but i really want newer cards then the 280s.

The M17x is going to hold its value for quite sometime so you can always unload it down the road and probably take very little hit compared to what you paid for it .

I dont mind the giant laptops myself as i dont use them in that nature nor in the mens room :).

    Me too re: smaller system.

Don't know if I'd go the W860 route (highly doubt it) but will def consider the new M15x :)

I hope that they offer a smaller, lighter 15/16" or 13" with a decent graphic card and aluminum or magnesium construction, backlit keyboard etc...

I've been searching for the closest thing to "MacBook Pro but not a Mac, as I don't approve of their business practices" for awhile and it looks like only Alienware and a couple of a new Asus designs are going to be anything like this. Sadly it appears the Asus ones will pair the new GTX210 mid-range gfx card with a ULV underpowered Core Solo or Core 2 Duo, so I hope Alienware does better.

Did they already annouce the 280s in that system? I guess I'm not following close enough. I'd rather have the new ATI tech.

If all things are equal I will be buying from Dell. No doubt.

For me it comes down to discounts (Dell: check) and getting 12 months no interest (Dell: check).

Even if the M15x doesn't have i7 I'm still going with it over any Clevo.

No i was referring to the 9850 not the W860 as i have 0 interest in 15inch laptops.

I kicked around the idea of getting a 8662 before i bought the M17x but i knew in the end the smaller screen would not have made me very happy.

I would add complete care warranty to that list.

Sooner or later we need to move off Montevina based procs. Although the M17x is my first system in that family it's getting long in the tooth now. (Montevina not the M17x)

Indeed it is getting a bit old.

I just think that the jump to Calpella isn't going to help gaming a whole lot.

So, for what I do on my systems, montevina is more than capable.

And, yes, I'll just say the entire warranty (cc, onsite service, etc) is a huge plus with Dell :)

My sig provides the best combination ever. Link both of these and you are set. I can even game on my Eeee PC when using the M17x remotely (it uses the M17x's resources, the Eee PC just acts as a window). Provided you have a very strong internet connection. I should show it off via Youtube one day.

That, or it could just be that I like extreme points. For me it's not easy to find middle ground

I'd rather keep my Thinkpad than go that route. I really don't like anything smaller than 15". A 16" with a good screen and a single gaming GPU no more than 7 lbs. Too much to ask for?

I'm with you on this mandrake.

For me, the perfect form factor is 15/16".

I don't have any problems with 17" laptops either, but I'd prefer something a tad smaller and lighter.

Only if you want it like right now. :)

MSI might come through for you with their promises for 15" and 17" mobile i7 notebooks since they like to use ATI cards.

I don't know where I stand anymore now that it doesn't look like the M17x are getting 4870s. I've been in the market for an ION netbook/UMPC and a Crossfire gaming notebook but I don't know if I should go for a lower spec M17x (260s or 4850s with a P9700) or just get a good CULV to tide me over and buy a gaming rig when I actually find something worth playing (which given MMO trends may never happen again ).

Star Wars: The Old Republic looks promising?

The first game in the series is definitely on my top 5 list, making an MMO out of the franchise should prove interesting.

For PVP, in an open unscripted, sandbox world, no it doesn't look promising. I think because it's such a big franchise that the game will be restricted by it's need to appease fans. The game will probably be good, Bioware is a solid company, but I can't help expecting it will be a scripted themepark that plays like a bunch of mini side games (especially PVP) connected by a game world that isn't worth fighting over.

Back to the earlier subject, I am with the guys who feel 17" is necessary. For my everyday computing, I can never go back to smaller than a 17" laptop. I need the screen real estate.

Still, when I am on the road, on the plane (on the jets with wi-fi access), etc, I can use a netbook for basic browsing and communicating. YIM, MSN Live, and QQ Chat work adequately on netbooks. For this reason I would live a netbook in the AW style. I bet Dell could sell them quite well, and at the end of the day, they are a business....

Wasn't the 9800gt in the original m15x a higher power hungry chipset? (At least comparing to the 260) It was still able to get some decent battery time. If they decide to use a 9 cell, or at least have an option for it, I think it is safe to say that the battery wont be too bad. At least that is what I am hoping. :D

Edit: On a sidenote... doesn't Alienware usually send out email blasts on Tuesdays? A friend of mine who atteneded PAX said there was no unveiling or "new" units at the Alienware booth. There goes my idea. *sigh, oh well*

I get this feeling that people would stop buying the Allpowerful M17x for the new M15x (at least sales would drop dramatically). Which would be really bad considering M17x only came out a while ago.

Therefore perhaps the new laptop is indeed a netbook (12" was it? In the Alienware survey...) and M15x won't be out until a while later.

On the other hand, perhaps Alienware DO need to release the M15x quickly in order to regain its 15" market since the previous m15x had so many issues which put off quite a few potential customers off (including me). M15x would join the "all powerful" family and should fit in just fine.

I think we'll find out the truth soon enough...*excited*

Yeah. That makes me think either 1 of 2 things: 1) The AP-M15x will be here much later than we previously thought, or 2) AW doesn't want to repeat the same thing that happened with the M17x and all the leaks before the release.

    I think (and hope) it's #2. lol

I have been trying everything to come up with some info. From manually entering website addresses (to find the user manual) to searching different drivers to see if the M15x is included. hahaha

I have even been on the lookout for Dell's new September catalog. That is how I was able to pull up the M17x before it was even released (used the e-value).

I've got nothing. They are playing this one close.....

At least when I found out that the All Powerful website had been taken down I knew the next M15x had to be close. Why would they take down such a nice site for no reason other than to update it with the next computers?

It was flash based so it's not like they could just add the info while it was still up. On the other hand, why would it take so long to be back up? They should have had the site ready long before... I'm getting mixed signals here.

Good questions, war. I don't have any answers. lol

I just hope they are announcing something worth-while.

If you think about what we have heard about the refresh, it probably is going to be a little bit more of a "low-key" launch.

If it is indeed like a mini-M17x, then I think the launch will go a little bit more unnoticed. I mean, when the M17x was launched, no one had ever seen a laptop like it. Everyone was curious and it was a pretty popular launch.

If the M15x doesn't bring many differences, then I think it will be more of an addition to the stable than a full, all-out launch.

    Ya know?

That is what I am hoping (and saying).

A few months back, chaz told me to expect the refresh in a few months. lol

He is probably the only person here with any concrete info (just don't ask him because he can't say anything :)).

Something is coming and it isn't a netbook. AW just sent out the surveys for the netbook a month ago, which tells me that they are thinking about bringing one to the lineup but haven't yet.

I do know for sure that there is a refresh coming, so that must be what it is, right?

    RIGHT????
