I hope you're okay with them ripping apart your new system. Personally I don't even trust a tech to do the job let alone a reseller. You'd be better off doing it yourself.

So yesterday afternoon I sent an email with a detailed description how my order has the old drive listed after failed attempts to convey it over the phone to multiple people.

This morning I figured I'd just cut my loss by canceling and reordering. As I was in the process of placing my new order I get a call from Dell with regards to the email and how they were aware of the issue and can transfer my call yadda yadda to get the issue fixed but it was too late at that point. Knowing or thinking I know more about my order than anyone I talk to from Dell isn't a good feeling.

Anyways my new order has the same EDD as my original one which is the 5th go figure. My new order also lists the quicksilver drive so I can finally relax, not to mention I somehow  ended up with a higher spec system than my first order so I'm happy overall.

    Neurotically Yours!

I just got off the phone with a rep because my order is still the build stage. According to them it is suppose to get here on the 4th with standard shipping, highly unlikely being that I live in Alaska. Anyways, I called because the automated number was saying that my comp. would ship today, but now it does not give anymore information besides being in the build stage. So, I called and the guy upgraded me to next day, which is nice, and said he would get back to me when he finds out more information. Darn, I was really hoping that it would ship today.

Well, I had a first order, on Jan 18, estimated delivery date on Feb5. This is an insurance replacement, as my M1730 got stolen.

Was a i7 920XM 2.0GHz-3.2GHz, Silver Metallic, 4GB DDR3 1333MHz, RGB LED screen, Dual 1G ATI CrossfireX, 250GB HDD, with the DVD Burner wich comes normally with it. I've been checking the Dell order Status at least twice a day since the order date ( don't have a CPU of my own so I got nothing else to do :p ) and last Friday, I saw it got CANCELLED !!!!

After about 2 hours of phone, being transfered here and there, asking to speak with supervisors and such, finally been able to learn they cancelled my order cuz the DVD burner wasnt compatible !!!! Someone somewhere at DELL wrote down the wrong item number, and instead of checking what was wrong or calling the cunsummer about a replacement, they just cancelled it.

After being a little pissed of in the phone with the sell rep, he said he would place a second order right now, put it as a ''RUSH'' upgraded my Rams to 6GB 1333GHz and my HD to 320G for my ''patience''.

Now my new order is scheduled for FEB 24, wich don't feel really ''Rushed'' to me. Waiting for a DELL computer once is bad, waiting for it TWICE is infuriating !!

I called and expressed "concern" about the DVDRW drive even tho I have the right model number on my order (313-8977 Quicksilver). They put an expedite on my order and gave NBD shipping without even asking, moving up the EDD by 2 days!

So thanks for all the tips about getting shipping upgrades and such.

I think they have completely screwed up their order process. I ordered on the 1/17 and had it canceled earlier this morning. I also just reordered and now have an ETA of 2/3 with NBD, which seems impossible since I upgraded the processor.

That kind of attitude is what they count in poor customer service. People are paying good money and don't expect to be bumped out of line because of some half-assed screw up on Dell's part. I will tell you, next time, if there IS a next time, I personally will not forget their treatment of folks in this matter and so will others. Dell is not the only game in town... folks are paying good money for these systems, and for some it is a real sacrifice to get one and expect fair treatment and good customer service.

Wasn't the M17x-R2 originally being released with a different DVD Drive? I think it wasn't compatible or something and after they fixed the problem and got the right parts they just screwed everyone that ordered early.

Yes and the moronic system at Dell wasn't smart enough to adjust the orders automatically when the drive problem was known. You memory is right on with the matter, be proud, because you grasp the matter more than 90% of the reps at Dell apparently. That Quail (another poster) actually had someone call him in regard to the matter after he wrote them, admitting the problem and offering to make amends, doesn't explain the continued laxness in adjusting orders and automatically throwing in a bone for the trouble for other folks by Dell.
