I haven't kept my laptops for more than 30 days since i bought the m1730 back in 2007. I always manage to find a ton of problems. I've got my fingers crossed that this rig won't give me anything to complain about, but I'll probably find a million things wrong with it. The problems usually begin with video driver issues, but I'm hoping ATI will change all of that.

I've been through: 8800M GTX (sager) 8800M GTX SLI (m1730) 9800M GTX SLI (m1730) 280M GTX SLI (m17x r-1). 4870 X2 better be different or I'm just going to get a desktop and pretend I wouldn't like to carry my gaming rig around in a backpack.

ATI stuff is very solid.... My W90 which was still in the infancy of Xfire in laptops once i got a good set of drivers i was very happy and the M17 i had by then the drivers matured so it was fantastic.. barring any other unforeseen problems with the machine id say you should be fine...

I'm stoaked to finally (hopefully) have a solid gaming laptop i can comfortably keep for years.

With nvidia cards, I was on laptopvideo2go.com almost every single day testing the latest driver releases and tweaks trying to find a set of drivers that simply ran all my favorite games without any glitches. You can understand why as soon as the 9800's were released while i had 8800's with issues, I quickly returned the somma and bought the newer model only to find myself with the same issues. the 280's in the m17x r-1 lured me back into the same sad behavior. the amount of emotional distress and sleeplessness I suffered because of nvidia's pisspoor mobile architecture boggles my mind.

The common theme seems to be SLI. Maybe this crossfire will change things. It's funny because I'm expecting the ATi solution to give me problems. Guess we'll see soon enough.

When I did the website status. It show changed and when I click on that it told me to check my Order status. When I look it had the dvd changed order date was changed. But I dont think Fedx could make it up here on the 5th if the freeway closed.

I use the phone options it says my system is Cancaled.

I called for mine yesterday - original order date was 1/17/2010, original delivery date was 2/8/2010

Was told it would be delayed, delivery date now 2/11/2010 - person on the phone didn't have specifics

Got the email this AM from dell that it's delayed, and my status page updated to the same date...

Sigh.. my instant gratification needs are not being met...

Quick edit - specs: i7 820, Dual 4870s, 6GB 1333 - if people are tracking the specs still...

It's probably a good deal brighter since the M15x screen is about 240-260 nits.

I ordered an R1 on the 4th Jan and it arrived on the 1st Feb. Prob not what you want to read. The ETA was 20th Jan  and Dell didnt bother to explain why it was delayed - infact my rep didnt even bother cancelling it 1 week after I ordered it. I refused delivery and ordered an R2 from the States.

Got to love Dell, no tracking number is still listed when mine shipped yesterday and I get the same runaround when I call, "please wait for shipper to transmit it to us". Go to look at my digital invoice and there it is, lol. Left Nashville this morning and I'll have it tomorrow!

Yo the UK dell situation is straight up DIRE. You can get an i7 720 with RGB Led and dual graphics for 2700USD. The same spec comes out to like 2200£, and thats WITHOUT RGB LED or the Intel Wireless option. Thats 820$ difference, and you get LESS. What a joke.

Myself and Javalillionaire (another guy on these forums) ordered the system through a company called hidevolution.com - they will declare the packages value for any amount you want, therefore you only pay the VAT on what the documents say its worth. In my case I'm delaring for $500 instead of the $3000+ it cost. Customs and Excise will not charge on laptops based on their clarification tariff so you fine in that respect. The only risk is the UK transport - if you declare at $500 you are only insured at $500. Thats why I have opted for the FedEx two day delivery from the USA to the UK - that costs a princely $250 but even with all those extras the system still works out cheaper than the UK prices............. and you get better specs and more options. :D

I believe you can transfer the NBD warranty but NOT the accidental damage/complete care portion to the UK. Therefore you can theoretically transfer your warranty.
