Just got a call from Dellienware's escalation team, supposedly my system as been put on the factory's "Hotsheet Priority" list, what ever that REALLY means...
Azam sounded very sincere, maybe I should I believe Dell this time (sarcasm ahoy)....
Anyone think the Hotsheet business actually translates to anything for real?
-
-
my rep told me that mine was on a "rush" list, but, someone whose order date is same as mine got to boxing faster than me, so I wouln't believe it if I were you... spent all day talking to those damn reps ( and being transfered to dead ends a lot ) to try an make them accelerate mine.... o well, I got nothing better to do until I get my laptop sooo....
-
I dont know if it means anything in reality but it sure sounds cool
...
-
Hmm... kind of what I figured, on the other hand, considering the website is not altogether trustworthy I would depend only on the phone system (assuming you're in the US).
-
Well, he was from the Indian office, maybe he really means the "hotsh*t" list...
-
Everytime i hear stories like this i just think they tell you what ever is going to make you feel better ... So he says Hotlist and you go away thinking wow im on the hotlist i must be important when in reality it means nothing .... Either way the guy gets an A for effort
...
-
Dammit, got my info, can't get Next day shipping because of the freakin customs....
-
No, I gave him a "B+"... if the machine gets here significantly faster he gets an A-.
-
No he gets an A for making up the Hotlist thing and thats it
...
-
Yes i was confused by this as well for a few days till I found out Canadian orders always say that date.
I will be happy if i get it before march at this rate. -
Got done checking the status of my order today it is in the boxing stage getting excited. Hope it wont take too long from here. Keeping my fingers crossed.
-
I got mine today. Screen looks awsome ecept for the bright red stuck pixel in the middle of the screen. So now what lol. Guess Ill call them and tell them Ill be returning it. I have have the standard warranty. They dont do anything for stuck or dead pixels do they?
-
Check this link: http://support.dell.com/support/top...EC97300BA883BBE040AE0AB8E10ED0&doclang=en&cs=
It's the dead pixel policy for the M17x... I assume it still holds for the m17x-R2...
EDIT: Notes from Wikipedia on the matter of "stuck" pixels (yes, its for LCDs, maybe some of the techniques work for RGB LED, I dunno...)
Stuck pixels are often incorrectly referred to as dead pixels, which have a similar appearance. In a dead pixel, all three sub-pixels are permanently off, producing a permanently black pixel. Dead pixels can result from similar manufacturing anomalies as stuck pixels, but may also occur from a non-functioning transistor resulting in complete lack of power to the pixel. Dead pixels are much less likely to correct themselves over time or be repaired through any of several popular methods.
Stuck pixels, unlike dead pixels, have been reported by LCD screen owners to disappear, and there are several popular methods purported to fix them,[4] such as gently rubbing the screen (in an attempt to reset the pixel; this method has been confirmed on a stuck green sub-pixel), cycling the color value of the stuck pixel rapidly (in other words, flashing bright colors on the screen,) or simply tolerating the stuck pixel until it disappears (which can take anywhere from a day to years). While these methods can work on some stuck pixels others cannot be fixed by the above methods. Also some stuck pixels will reappear after being fixed if the screen is left off for several hours.
Hardware manufacturers and distributors tend to claim [3] that TAB faults, in opposition to other forms of defective pixels, will not allow for repair or reliving of the issue, in opposition to other physical defects that may be found in an LCD. -
Well, if it's a defect, whatever your warranty, they have to fix/change it, but it prob means sending it back, them checking it, repairing/changing it, then shipping it back at you... meaning, a month or more without it probably...
-
Just ask for a replacement/exhange system.
Tell them it overheats and you have been getting BSOD's and you either want to return or exchange.
You'll have a new one in no time
-
LOL dude.... you ARE the RMA Master....!
-
typically when its brand spankin new you can have a brand new, identical specs system built while you use the messed up one. when that one is received you ship the broken one back in the box it came in and you're all set with a new system.
if youve had it outside of the return policy, they'll usually make you send it in for repairs or send out a repair part and tech, depending on your warranty (basic or advanced). -
Anyone have the a 800 number for that will ge me to who I ahould talk to? Or do I call customer service?
-
That link to the policy on pixel for the M17x...I am am not fully understanding it. It says a bright or dark sub-pixel. But in the picture it show either a black or white sub-pixel. Can anyone help me out with this and tell me if a stuck red pixel is covered under our warranty? Sorry I just didnt fully understand the what it is saying on that dell warranty page. I must be to pissed to read right now.
-
Ouch, that's a major fear of mine. Guess I'll go pray to some deity right now. -
I would return the laptop and reorder, probably faster, one thing I know for sure, if I get a monitor with a stuck pixel, is going right back....
-
well I ordered this laptop mostly for the screen. Extra 250 dollars so it should be perfect. I guess it will go back <sigh>. I am so pissed that I put it away and am on my netbook. I am picky about this things like this. I agree if a monitor or a tv hase one bad pixel it is returned. Hope everyone elses systems are fine. I would hate anyone else to have to return right away.
-
I called today. Had them correct my nameplate. (They reversed the letters in my last name) Not suprising really since it took 15 minutes for the sales rep to pull up my account because she was spelling "college" in my email with an "a"
Then I they are trying to change my order to add the wireless N and they can't get my prefered acct to come up. Turns out the original sales rep took down my social wrong.
After tooling around with the reps to get my order right I finally have my new delivery date of 2/8/10.... but when they cancled my old order to make the new one, they took away my next day delivery for standard 5-8 (I just noticed and its too late to call and raise some H E Dual ATI Hocky Sticks.)
So when it is actually delayed delivery again tomorrow night I probably won't be getting this till the 20th or some garbage.
Pretty sure it was a Filipino order center. At least the lady reps sounded cute... -
I understand your pain and frustration, I remember a couple of years back that I bought a 24 inch monitor, it had an stuck pixel just off the center... It was only one pixel but i couldn't help but stare at it every time, I knew i simply would not get over that annoying feeling if I kept it, so I returned it and bought another one....
-
I know how you feel and it really sucks when this happens. Hopefully your next system won't have this. I'm pretty nervous about receiving mine tomorrow w/a stuck pixel as well. -
I wouldn't be.
It's been at least 8 years since I've seen one. LCD manufacturing has improved and is very efficient nowadays. -
I wish I had your luck and optimism. But I tend to be cursed when it comes to stuff like this. When I hope not to have one, I get 3-4 and when I don't care, the screen is perfect. -
So u know what to do, don't care about your new and perfect RGB led M17X
-
That and take comfort in knowing Dell will gladly ship out a brand new replcement while you play with the stuck pixel
-
My previous laptop was a Sony Vaio FE, got it 3 years ago for $2,400 and it had mediocre performance, now it is slow when i do 3D renderings for school work.
Just got an M17x R2 after reading the forums, i7 720, 4gb 1333mhz, RGB LED, 128SSD, single ati 4870, 500gb hhd, and 3 years warranty. possibly upgrade to crossfire when i get some more money.
since i'm new, i'd like to know what i should do right after i get my M17x.
Like check for problems and such? and how? this is my second laptop and i've never tweaked my laptop before so please share some advice. any is very greatly appreciated.
Thank You very much, i'll be getting it on the 8th. -
My case would be complicated by the fact that I'm moving back to California at the end of the month and I don't trust Dell to ship it to the new address. They usually botch things up pretty bad. Oh well I think I'll try rhune's suggestion
-
how would you avoid restocking fee? claim random bsods?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Where you at in Cali? -
I'm in Miami right now. Going to visit the parents for a month in Modesto and then head to NYC for a permanent move.
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Cool..... Modesto is a quiet town. I'm in the Rowdy Oakland.
-
I have a few issues that might delay my ETA. California Drivers who dont know how to drive in the rain snow so they close the Grapevine i5 Freeway that 1 inch of snow or more on the road. Town has 2 or 3 feet or snow and the snow plows are working on the Grapevine to reopen the freeway. Two weeks ago we had about 5 foot of snow and the weekend there was about 60,000 people in my town.
-
LOL where I am from unless you can't see the road directly in front of the car, they don't close anything. 5 feet of snow just means we drive careful.
-
My ETA updated this morning to 02/03... now that's interesting
How will I be able to concentrate on work now, I'm just staring out the window to catch first glance of the UPS car
-
I can't believe it!!! The UPS car came just now only to drop off 1 of 2 packages... all I got is this tiny box with a usb mouse inside.
I even caugh myself hoping the M17x was really a tiny 8" laptop... but then again, no I want the big one. It had been left in Paris and now I have to wait until tomorrow to get it
can you imagine the disappointment?
-
Me too, I only posted the "solutions" to a stuck pixel. In some cases it is it not a permanent issue, but a byproduct of build limitations.
Would you believe the m15x I am about to return has a dead pixel about 1 3/4" up and 2" from the bottom right corner? And it's definitely not dirt on the screen.... another reason if they give me any guff when I return it as I wait for my m17x
-
.... Alienware branded 17" backpack I ordered off ANTOnline
Now I just need a laptop to go with it
-
I keep calling...keep checking...anxiously waiting an update.
How long can it be in production??
Soon....very soon....I hope. -
I've just ordered mine R2 yesterday and I was told ETA March 2
I'll be a long wait!!!!!!!!
-
