I am really into audio video equitment. I love lcd tvs. I am always reading abbout whats new and drooling. I drive my wife nut because I always want to upgrade our tvs. We just got one of the new Samsung led(backiit) for our bedroom. Lol it is huge. She has slept in the spare room because it is so bright she cant sleep lol. I am so impressed with the RGB panel in this M17X. I havnt spent a ton of time with it but the blacks are awsome and it has a ton of depth.I is very bright....like really bright. Its the best lcd I have ever seen. So unless mine is better than others I think everyone should at least be happy with the screen :)

the screen would automatically make itself dim depending on the colors of the stuff on the screen. if you were looking at, lets say google.com, the screen's brightness was high, it looked good. but if you had everything minimized and say you had a dark background, the screen would dim itself entirely to try and make the blacks look blacker. unfortunately, the ENTIRE display would dim, so stuff like the start menu looked noticeably dimmed. its hard to explain, you kinda have to see it for yourself to be frustrated by it.

i know for a fact (cuz i owned one) that the slim (1.1 inch thick) samsung LED tv's did the exact same thing. suppose you were on a dark screen (like the loading screen of GTA IV, which is almost entirely black except for the word loading in the bottom right corner) but then, you brought up the tv's menu. the entire menu was dimmed even though it wasn't black as well. really quite annoying.

and as you may have guessed, this was all built-in and automatic inside the display, couldn't be disabled.

The SXPS RGB was very poor with blacks. Lost detail and very washed out.

Those displays also suffered from some serious light bleed aroung the edges which didn't help matters.

What sleey0 said above. The M17x RGB LED is fine, the blacks are just as good as the WLED on the M15x, the panel is brighter, colors much richer and there's no light leakage around the edges. I DO have a stuck pixel in the bottom left corner  It went away initially but came back. I think I'll just keep the system because it's the size of a speck of dust and I don't really notice it during use.

Are they Canceling the order/ then refund the credit card. Then reordering and charging the credit card with out telling anyone?

This is fine for Regular credit cards. But when you have a credit card Limit it slows down the order.

I'll think about it. To be honest it's so tiny that I hardly notice it unless I put my face near the screen and look for it.

Try flashing the pixels for about 15 min. Most of the time this works. At my AV company we use a video file like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj9U-Ux6QHY We run this on all of our plasmas and lcd's to cure pixels and burn in. Give it a shot. Usually we let them flash for about an hour and all is well.

Of course. Was this not considered when selecting the processor?

Enabled by default, controlled through the BIOS. RTFM (Pg. 31)

Glad to hear there is a technique... the section of Wikipedia I posted essentially talks about flashing to clear it. Thanks for the posted link.

You might as well ask for a replacement since you can hold onto the one you have for a week, switch them over and send the faulty one back. Put it this way - you will always know that pixel is there and it will eat away at the back of your mind ;) ........................... FOREVER

If you financed through Dell Financial I think they can authorize it and then put you over to the folks who can do it. If your rep won't help try someone else, make a stink on the phone. Push hard enough they will do it just to get you off the phone :p

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT a proponent of not getting replacements when they matter, on the other hand one has to realize the limits of production processes and decide what are the odds on a replacement having one.

This reminds me of the mask lines on the Trinitron screens.... compared to the screens here, they would have looked like row across the screen of stuck pixels.... and most everyone accepted they were there, then they didn't notice it.

It's a personal decision, If I had two bad pixels, or one in the center, I would get annoyed but out of my immediate line of vision, not so bad.

The m15x I'm due to return to Dell at the very last possible moment came with a bad pixel, but its off to the right, and unless I think about it I don't even notice it.

Gee, how is everyone getting these short EDDs?

I purchased mine on 27 Jan and always had an EDD of 18 or 22 Feb. I've been in the production/build stage for a week as of today and still have an EDD of 18 Feb. I'm hoping it gets shipped by the weekend and I get it Monday with the NBD I have. Or at least Tuesday at the latest.

It is a risk. The replacement might have more dead pixels OR a perfect screen. Either way considering the amount he paid for the machine I dont think it unreasonable to ask for perfection. We are paying a hefty lump some for the prestige brand of Alienware afterall.

But you are right - it is a personal decision. I remember going to the cinema once and there was small piece of chewing gum slap bang in the center of the screen............. I couldn't stop looking at it and untimately it kinda ruined the movie for me as I was distracted by it. :(

I would expect it to actually ship way before 23 Feb. Have you called and complained a little to try and get NBD shipping thrown in for free? That will take off 3-4 days of shipping time once it does ship.

I told them I am without a computer for work and need to get it as soon as possible and if there was any way to get it faster. Be sure to mention about having the shipping upgraded. The person I talked to said I might have to pay for it, but once he transferred me over to a resolution rep I was told by that rep that I was getting NBD for free. :D

i've heard that ppl who ordered R2 are now experiencing problems in certain games while in crossfire.
    what is this about?
i ordered single GPU anyways so i can upgrade the other one when i have the cash.

I've installed some games that worked fine (Anno1404 and Fallout3). Downloading some more demanding games like Dragon Age and Age of Conan, I'll see how they work on max.

So far I have nothing to complain about (unless you consider having to turn down screen brightness to avoid hurting your eyes :) )

I definitively have a new lover. My wife will be jealous soon enough ^^

Don't let anyone else see it, otherwise there will be a huddle in the NOC and company production will be WAY down for the day.
