Okay... this begs a huge question... what is the point of an expedite if the factory can veto it? ? The order should STAY expedited till it's filled promptly.... what does a rep do if the factory "denies" an expedite order? Just say oh well, sorry, thank you for using Dell?

I thought the factory works on behalf of the reps... not the other way around... then again, these are assembled in China using state slave labor... I guess a few more folks need to have their rations reduced to get things moving

And mine says Dirty Scrubz. I MIGHT be taking my system in to the Miami Alienware HQ today if I get lucky. Hopefully they can get my system into their labs for testing and figure out what's wrong.

I don't think all the epi, lido, dopamine, atropine, adenosine, MSO4 in the world is going to solve the flickering ;)

Maybe a special AW crash cart will have some secret sauce to get it back up. Don't know....

Made yet another call into Dell. Spoke with someone who said "this laptop will ship today" - I won't hold my breath

I asked what the hold up was since "other people who ordered 7 days after I did have received theirs already" and the response was "we're really backed up"

At least he didn't try to blow some tech reason up my a$$...

so I guess the last question is, will NBD = Monday?

lol even dr. cox is more humble. This moron was a med student like the rest of us but since he was a P.A. before going to med school, he acted like he was smarter than the doctor's that were teaching us. At one point he got into an argument with a clinical instructor and was booted out of that class.

Yes, it did ship today so you will have it Monday.

Fedex Express delivers Mon - Fri

Fedex Home Delivery delivers Tues - Sat (standard)

dell doesn't add the extra sat deliver for express shipments.

    Sorry.

Got a call from Azam in the escalations group, "something with parts, yada yada, I'll let you know on Tuesday." This for a reorder on 02/02 to replace the original bad part number order on 1/20

Supplier issues are what was inferred as the problem but no hint as to what part(s) might be causing a delay.

At this point the whole process has poisoned my impression of Dellienware... I've kind of given up on any kind of timely delivery at this point... if I wasn't so in love with the m15x that I have to return I would have given up by now on getting the m17x with the 17" RGB LED screen with i7.

Ouch, that really sucks man :(. Hopefully it's not a shortage of the RGB LED, although that would explain why they no longer offer it in Europe. Be sure to demand additional $$ off if they make you reorder.

Hey guys, hope you have some advice for me.

    I ordered my m17x yesterday
    920xm, 8gb ddr3 1333, dual 4870, rgb led, 3 year advanced protection plan, etc

But I just realized today that it had a dvd instead of a blu ray burner/player. A few hours after that I got an email saying that my system was delayed until the 25th when it was supposed to arrive the 11th.

You guys think I should cancel the order until they come with blu ray player again? Or is there any chance for me to buy the blu ray and switch it myself without voiding the warranty?

    Thanks

Well I never owned an Alienware, but normally, with any electronic machine, if you open it, you void the warranty. Now if you do it without them knowing, and everytime you contact them for a problem, you switch back the Blue-ray for the DVD-burner, then that might work.

Dell usually doesn't void the warranty on anything they consider "user replaceable". I am not sure the optical drive is considered such in the Alienware however. Don't see why it wouldn't be considered user replacable though.

Mine came today. I was expecting an ETA of 2/16 but got an email saying it shipped (and NBD so it came today).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, I just watched some videos and they look amazing on the RGB LED.

quick question, currently the m17x doesn't show a Blue-ray drive option... if and when one becomes available... is this a part that falls under the user replaceable list?
    3:49:50 PM Customer Jeffrey Taylor
for installation without voiding the warranty?
    3:50:29 PM Agent BE_HY_Shaik_Ateeque
yes you can change it and it will not void the warranty, if it is bought from Dell

    I KNOW I BELIEVE DELL!!!!

Well, my plan is to move stuff from my current laptop to the AW and then perhaps pop out the old system's HD and put it in the secondary bay. The AW didn't come with a bracket so I'm going to see if the one my current HD is in will work.

EDIT: Any thing I should do to this laptop as far as programs and such optimization? I used to do a fresh install but it doesn't look necessary. So next up is Anti-Virus (Symantec Endpoint 12) then MS Office.

Hey Matt K, Congrats!! That give the rest of us hope that we might get our machines sooner then the ETA. Nice to hear that someone actually received their system way in advance instead of it being pushed back even further! Enjoy!

I am assuming that you can connect 2 external monitors (for dual display with the internal LCD shutoff), since there is a displayport and HDMI out. Correct me if I am wrong please.

I don't suppose that with the 2 GPUs you can connect 2 external and use the internal (if possible would assume it would have to be not crossfired).

11 days sooner too!!! I was looking at it coming the day after President's Day which would have sucked since I'm off of work. Instead it came today I got off of work 4 hrs early (snow but it's just flurrying here ATM).

It is a USA I got the Blu Ray because of a favor from high up in Corp. they pulled 1 of about 3 or 4 they had and special built it. I am told they will be back on line by mid month. Someone out there must have just received there M17x-R2 with SSD that can answer my question about new ssd drive with TRIM being shipped on new machines now.

Ditto. Been in build for 2 weeks. Rep says it's the wireless card (Intel 6300) that is holding things up, but he is calling the factory to expedite the order. FWIW.

    Can't expedite if the parts aren't there/backordered.
