LOL - they called this evening as I was leaving work, but I was on the phone. The dudes are not leaving any kind of message, they don't get me then just hang up. I called into check to make sure my order wasn't "cancelled", and so far everything is on track... still a date of 02/05 for delivery.... I was working with some folks in California by chance in the East LA area.... I bet a call I thought was them was actually Dell. Maybe they aren't so bad after all.... :p

If the problem shows up and is the same on the m17x's, then it will work I would think. It's just speculation that it might happen, the chipsets, etc are close enough... but then the R2's are shipping with ATi's which Dell has used as a solution (albeit not a general one) for at least one person who posted, so maybe we won't see any evidence of it with those instead of Nvidia's.

I can't wait to see what someone thinks once they have an m17x to test on and we get some real reports...!

When I click on the email link from my order it says my Estimated ship date is 1/1/0001. So I guess I already got it ;) (although it is still "In Production")

    hmm today I got:

" No Order was found that met the search criteria." (yes in bold)

So either the search utility is down (dell france) or they've cancelled my order... We'll see when my sales contact answers my e-mail.

How long is packaging and shipping usually where you are situated? On a normal Dell delivery it is about 4 working days where I am.

Thanks Mandrake. Already knew about the process, so just chatting to make time fly... I hate waiting for online ordered products.

But the good news is my order is not cancelled, they have put it up again, same order number, same EDD (2/16). I've even stopped playing games now, can't bother playing anymore on low settings :)

    Time goes by, so slowly!

I tried playing borderlands on my Thinkpad over the weekend. It was somewhat playable at all low settings but where shadows should have been it was just black. It was hard to see anything. lol

Hehe, yeah the T60 is great for gaming, you have a X1400 in it or something?

At least I can play Anno 1404 and Age of Conan on low settings and have great fps! (20ish fps duh!)

I have to renegotiate my 3 year renewal strategy on my laptops... Wife doesn't approve though :D

I been completely absorbed by Borderlands lately, I got a fairly powerful desktop, a Dell 730X i7 720 nVidia GeForce GTX 280, runs Borderlands beautifully :) I am at level 31 now and just got out from "The Challenge" in the rakks nest :D
And to keep this on topic, my M17X R2 still on schedule for 02/17...

Still in the build stage for me, EDD is still 2/1. One interesting thing is that Dell apparently removed the pre-charge from my credit card. Not sure what that means, but I don't think its a good sign.

Right, but they actually *removed* the hold on my credit card yesterday, so my credit limit is back to what it was before I ordered. I don't know why they did that, but I hope I'm not getting a cancellation email later today.

Holds are usually only for a few days tops. Just make sure the funds are there when it's time to ship and they do a delayed capture :)

This happened to me as well, since my final order was through the EPP. I think you need to make sure you log into www.dell.com/epp and then check.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice your mention of Dell-France, so my comment is null and void : )

Big fan of France, btw, I hope one day to retire there (and NOT destroy the culture). If I ever win the lottery I will meet you in Paris!

The phone gives you the shipping date and the website gives you the delivery date.

Well, I knew something was up. Just got a call from my rep letting me know my order has been cancelled due to a shortage of a part. She didn't know what part, but said she would call back in an hour with what exactly was missing.

What was your configuration? If mine gets canceled I'll just wait for the refresh with the 5870s before ordering again.

Edit: Ok checked your post history. Looks like we have the same config except you got the SSD. I doubt they're out of SSDs so its probably something else.

Hopefully the shortage is the 4870's and they'll need to release the 5870's to continue sales.

I've never purchased an M17x before but if this is par for the course with ordering one, then Dell needs to seriously streamline their production or parts supply. Don't put up a system for sale if you can't assemble it fast enough or lack the supply, its just a waste of everyone's time. So far of all the people on this forum, one guy in the UK has received his unit, that's pretty stupid. They seemed to be faltering with M6500 deliveries as well and that was because of the RGB LED display.
