Congrats. How is the new Asus holding up? Still in love?

Thanks...
The Asus is truly an amazing piece of tech and i have had 0 issues which is rare nowadays ...
Its no Alienware in terms of build quality but it does exactly what its supposed to...
Never gets warm after hours of gaming ... Makes almost no noise which is a major bonus ....
Great screen but i doubt it will compare to the RGB LED ...
I have a tough decision to make between which i keep.... I got a very good deal on the AW so thats going to make it even harder honestly..... -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Be very interested in your R2 impressions and comparisons to the Asus. Continued issues with the R2 (on top of the R1 and the M15x) may force more AW fans in that direction. Hope not, but there comes a point where reality trumps hope. -
Yeah. I never really looked into Asus before. But now with the G73, I have noticed them. I liked the design and everything as soon as it was unveiled. It may be an option for me, but I am hoping the 720's don't have this issue and even more, that the whole thing is just some Bios issue. I won't hold my breath. At least not for more than 21 days
-
Just curious, although didn't order an SSD, I might like to get one, what exactly are you needing, just a tray like the old HHD ones
-
Yeah if after a couple days i am having issues then im going to send it packing....
Since im getting a 720 with the machine i dont think i will have any though honestly.... But i have a 920 coming and i know im going to want to toss it in there at somepoint but ill wait till they release some sort of fix before i even bother.... -
Can you post your part list? I also ordered on 2/2, and I just got an email that mine is delayed until 3/2
I'd like to see what if any parts are different.
*sticks more pins in Michael Dell voodoo doll* -
Damn, soo pissed right now! You guys prdered your m17x-r2 AFTER me, but got it shipped BEFORE me  mine was ordered on 01/29 and its not even in boxing stage yet.... Still in production!
-
It's on my sig but in case it didn't load here are the important parts off the top of my head:
1TB
4GB Ram 1066
720QM
RGB LED
Crossfire
Default wireless card -
You need the caddy and an interposer (connector). My kit should arrive today via fedex, so I'll report back tonite on whether they got me the right part or not.

Same here. Never considered Asus in the same league as AW, but the new one seems to offer a lot of value. On the other hand, Asus has a rocky history with performance notebooks. Hope AW is able to overcome the R2 issues so the choice isn't necessary.
-
Yeah it's messed up... I don't know if you saw it but there are two production issues from what I have been told, a shortage on the screens and one for the better wireless card. I am wondering if ours are at some different factory setup that is contracted apart from the ones that are flying out the door.... well, maybe not flying...

Well, except a very very small number, everyone have rgb led screens. And, I call dell canada EVERYDAY to ask my ETA since tje automated phone dont work here in Canada, and everyday, they tell me there is nothing delaying my peoduction, so !
On a side note, now mostly everyone at canadian french company sale reps know me since i call so often and some start being pissed at me! Telling me I have to wait between 7 to 10 working days before having a chqnce to get my system. I was happy today to tell him that its been 7 days today! He them told me that until it exceed 10 days before gettong mu order, everything was ok. I then told him that its been 7 days now, if you count boxing wich takes between 1 to 3 days, and canadian delivery wich takes between 2 to 4 days, that if its not in boxing stage yet, then it SURE will be late.... He didnt had anything left to say about it , except that hell ask the real rep taking care of my order to do a follow up! -
yeah, so much for "canceled orders get priority, and expediting my order". I agree that it must be where the systems are being assembled which dictates (among other things) how quickly they are being shipped. I guess since I've been waiting since the 16th of January, that another week won't hurt...but I'm still waiting for the elusive "boxing" stage on the status call.

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Now in the same boat for a replacement..lol
-
On the ASUS... have there been any throttling issues on it like m15x?
-
The G73 looks like a great machine at base configuration and price. But, When i loaded the same specs on both the G73 and M17X, the price difference was off by $200 dollars after EPP. I was getting more from the M17X with connections,LED screen, AlienFX,Face recognition etc.
-
Its probably the 920 holding it up ....
-
I have had 0 throttling when gaming...
I wont say its not there if the machine was put under torture because i never ran it that way but from just gaming i never had an issue... -
Mine's a lowly 820 and so are a number of others... not saying it couldn't be 920 shortages but...
-
Well i did not say the 820s were not in short supply either
...
I opted for the 720 which they clearly have truckloads of
...
-
Funny you put it like that, the m15x 720 in my possession (probably semi-permanently) was ordered on 01/09 and at my destination on 01/16.
After waiting nearly two weeks and stalling on returning it even with a full refund in mind I had to open it because I need a gaming laptop as a distraction from care-taking for a sick relative. Dell really, really put me in a bind on with all this which is why I keep complaining. -
Its OK man complain away
... I does not bother me in the least ....
Heck from the moment i click the submit button i feel like complaining my machine is not already in my possession
.....
-
Well at least you have somerhing while waiting! Mine is an insurance repkacement, had a m1730 that got stolen, i got nothing until i get my m17x ! My only link to the net is my ipod touch!
-
Hey where's my truckloads of 720's? Actually at this point, I'd settle for 1
-
I made my first order Jan 26 and it was cancel with no explination on jan 29. I re-order on feb 1 and iv been in production for 9 days. my eta is 01/03.
-
I just have to ask, is that a 920 mobile chip? How did you end up with a loose one?
-

17, WUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED,1200p,

-
Someone is lending/sending it to me with an option to buy if i even want it...
I have 0 interest in benchmarking so unless it provides a substantial increase in my framerats within game i wont keep it... Its nice to be able to try it though
...
Oh and it is a 920 mobile chip... -
UPS updated my delivery date to the 11th of FEB, any other guys in the UK getting their machines too?
-
I thought you were just going through a phase.
-
FINALLY shipped this morning! My rep just called to tell me it shipped ( called this morning to ask about my eta, they said it was still in production, bit now its been shipped !! Wheres the boxing stage ? Dunno!! Lol ). He said its now in the US, and should be here by monday max, with the trucking and canadian custom and all. But its all fine... It shipped !! Woohoo
-
Probably due to all of the cancellations, least you'll have yours soon.
-
I thought so to lol... Now its just a few benchmarks and i have lost interest
...
-
Mine has been putback to 24th/feb.
Shortage on parts in UK. gotta be the cpu and gfx cards i reckon. -
When did u place your order?
-
OMG!!!! it SHIPPED!!!!!
just kidding - it hasn't moved...
Nothing like getting screwed just for ordering your system when the manufacturer has a part problem -
Gratz! I now hate you too until I get mine
-
It Got sorted last wednesday but has only shown up today as ordered on 08.02.10.
Strange tbh.
When i called in last week had the date of 15/2. -
I really do hope that it aint cos of the new PSU problem.
Will be 2nd time using ATI Cards. First time i had a Inspiron 9300 with ATI 9700 Pro. Those were the days. -
I can see you didn't get the LED too, what kind of a discount did you get for your machine?
-
Got mine thru warranty replacement. Currently using a m1730.
They wouldnt upgrade to the RGB LED. They said this spec was the best they could do, this will be my third machine from them, m170 -> m1710 -> m1730 -> m17x -
Started out with:
Inspiron 8200 (In the day!)
Inspiron 9300
XPS M170
Then the rest have been replacements. -
The Eagle Has Landed!!!
It just got here and now it's time to get it powered up.
Ordered 1/27/2010, received 2/9/2010. -
Congrats mate, how about some performance tests.
-
Ordered 2/29/10 and just got my call from a Dell rep around 11:00 to let me know my order had shipped. It it wasn't for the bad weather I would probably have it tomorrow.
-
oh FFS - even people who ordered their units from the future are getting theirs before me!!!!!
-
Thats some BS right there, man.
-
LOL oops. yes. This notbook is so fast it came to me before I even ordered it!!
1/29/10 awesome. -
Well at least you guys have the 820qm which could be slowing stuff down. A guy here got the exact same configuration as me on the same day and his already shipped, mine is still in production...
List everyone M17x-R2 ETA
