I am new to the whole private laptop ownership experience, can you elaborate on the warranty replacement process? You have an m1730, is it broken? I thought warranty replacements were only done for broken machines, can you upgrade for some price with a complete care warranty?

damn, got a letter that my order is being delayed, AGAIN.
    now it's the 2/22.
For all of you guys that got this action required letter, is it really enough to reply to that mail in order to avoid cancellation ?

Yes i think so, I wont be getting my m17x for a full good month. Due to Australia having low stock of RGB screens. Kinda makes me mad...Cause i was told it would go through easily and i would receive it on time. So I'm a tad pissed.

    i can relate..
I wanted to hear from someone that got this "your order is delayed, please contact us or we will cancel your order" email.
    Is emailing them really enough?
I don't want it to accidentally get canceled and then i would need to go to the end of the line with a new order.
    Damn Dell for this mess.

Ahhhhhh... got ANOTHER "you have been F'ed by Dell email" this morning.

Now it says 2/17/2010 for my EDD

Which is awesome since I spoke with someone lastnight who said "everything is on schedule" - then I wake up to this crap

Original order date, 1/17.... did anyone in the States order before me that is still waiting?

Hey Mr Neutron, My original order date was on 1/16..so a day earlier with an EDD of 2/19. Mine still is in the build state...so I'm not even certain if they'll make the 2/19 delivery date.

Thanks guys - at this point I think I'm out.

I don't think they'll make the 2/17 date either and my fear is that IF anything happened and I needed warranty work then I'd be without my laptop for months while they sort out their internal messes

On top of it all, the rep I talked to on Monday said "all parts are available" so why am I delayed? No one seems to know what is going on.

Time to go shop for an alternative brand

I feel for you. My system should of been here on the 5th or at least at the 8th. I order on the 1/19/2010. They are telling me 2/24/2010. What get me is why are people ordering later getting there system Now while we wait.

That's exactly my point - we ordered early and got boned for it

My EDDs so far have been, 2/5, 2/11, 2/15 and now 2/17 while others who ordered between 1/23 and 2/2 have theirs already

Sent an email to my rep, gave him until 12noon EST to call

SO.. what else is out there? I heard the ASUS is ok? Anything compete spec wise with the AW? I know nothing will look as good, but at least I might actually get to use it :)

Yes, I got them to give me a free upgrade to NBD. FedEx does a good job. They picked it up in Nashville on Monday but it didn't leave the area until early AM Tuesday according to their tracking. It got to me Tuesday afternoon. Gotta love those airplanes. :D

    Makes sense to me! :)

Did you get a resolution rep to expedite it and throw in NBD? I did when I told them I had to send back the R1 under my 21-day option due to problems and that I was now in need of a laptop for work and couldn't wait too long. It got put on the infamous "hotlist". Not sure if maybe that is why I got it quicker, but I'm happy now.

I never talked to a resolution rep - but i did talk to a sales rep to who i explained that i need this laptop. Of course "need" is relative.. I have a POS D630 from work I'm near the point of tossing out a window

How do I speak with a resolution rep? Everytime i talk to "customer service" they just bounce me around their queue until someone finally dumps me to the bit-bucket

I called the EPP number and got customer care for them (1-800-695-8133). After convincing the person I needed to speed up the order somehow, whether it be upgrading the shipping or whatever, he passed me on to a reolution specialist who took care of everything. I thought I would have to pay for the NBD upgrade, but right away the specialist said I got it for free. He requested to expedite the order and it got approved. Give it a shot and mention you would like a resolution specialist maybe?

Alright - we'll see what happens. Just spoke with the resolution team, and "we're looking into getting this shipped to you"

haha - I sounded good anyway...

The funny part is, they also stated that "no parts are backordered" - yet no one can explain the week delay in shipping...

I just called dell and got a resolution specialist, very nice Indian woman with no accent. She told me that one of the parts was on back-order, but when she pulled it up apparently all she got was a code so she is going to call the factory to find out what the hold-up is and get back to me. I am betting it is the wireless card or the rgbled since those seem to be in short supply.

I just got this email back from my rep

"These systems do have longer lead times than standard systems since they are more advanced (takes a while longer to get the parts and to build the system). With that being said, I have submitted an expedite request for this system to be moved to the front of the line. Since we deal with real-time inventory as a way to get our customers the best prices available, we are awaiting one-two more parts to fulfill this order. Regarding the expedite, Manufacturing will re-evaluate the expedite request once all parts are received to see if it can be moved up at that point. At this time, I am unsure on when we will receive those parts, however, as soon as I know, I will shoot you an email and let you know. Have a great day!"

He didn't know what parts were on BO, but said its affecting all AW orders. I'm hope the expedite goes through!

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but mine was "expedited" on Feb 2nd, and I still have an EDD of 2/19...if they make that. My original order was placed on January 16th, so expedite so far hasn't done anything for me

After three shipping delays, I called my rep twice this week, he assured me that he was doing everything he could to get my order expedited. He gave me free NBD shipping, and told me everything was looking good for me.

Last night my order was cancelled by dell.

Not tryin' to be the bearer of bad news, but take it with a grain of salt - at this rate it could still be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before the rest of the systems go out.

Not bragging, just saying... but, if my computer gets here by the date FedEx is posting, that is gonna be a total of 9 days from the day I hung up the phone placing my order to the day I have it in my hands. That is a record for me.

    Order date: Feb 2
    FedEx delivery date: Feb 11

With the snow, however, I am not sure FedEx will make it. We'll see.

Edit: By the way, I didn't require expedited, or NBD or anything like that. It's just the standard shipping.

Is there a reason that Dell is auto canceling the order? I have not called or done anything special and my status still shows I am on track to have a system shipped to me next week.

I feel if I were to call in and talk to someone bad things could happen..

I didn't get a reason, it said to call some number in the email I got. Well, when I got home from work to do just that - *drumroll* - the lines were closed.

I am guessing it was because my order was getting pushed back a fourth time and they wanted to "talk me off the ledge" this time. I dunno. I have never dealt with such an inept ordering scheme before - but Dell has definitely spited me over this one.

Nevertheless, I do love the design of the M17x and am gonna try again when the 5870's arrive. If things are this whacked at that point in time, I am gonna bail on AW for a good year or so and try an alternate route.

That's exactly what led to my call into them this morning.

Even the resolution rep i spoke with kept trying to say the date of my order was 2/8.. i had to remind her and her manager that my original date was 1/17 and DELL has canceled it TWICE!

At least now i have a direct line to someone i can complain to - not that it will change the result... sure beats the hold music tho :)

These inconveniences could have landed you some nice bonuses. Like $100 coupons, or perhaps a little upgrade here a little upgrade there for your troubles. Dell likes giving out bonuses when they annoy you. All you gotta do is ask nicely ;)

Dell sure seems to have power over people. Look at all of us putting up with this insane lack of service to get our machines. At some point Dell will not have the most compelling price or item and they will have to take a good look at how they handle the whole ordering process.

These AW systems are certainly a premium product and it seems like we are getting thrown into the mix with all the rest. This can not be a good thing for AW's image.

I wish my order had been delayed. Lol. Really. I could use another mouse, or coupon. Delays have never failed me to get bonuses. Like I said, the trick is to be polite. It always works for me every single time they annoy me. I hope they are not on to me!

I agree..I understand part problems, or part shortages, which can delay orders. My problem is how they are being handled...I don't think there is ever a justifyable reason to auto cancel an order. As I feel only the customer reserve the right to cancel anything. If there is a problem with the SKU number, or the product being order, it should be the responsibility of Dell to either correct it so a new order doesn't get placed at the end of the line, or contact the customer to determine what further actions should be taken. Just my 2 cents worth...

It seems alot of systems have been moved to this 24th batch date. Is this hwo they do it at dell? build systems in batch dates? and WaR 9 days for a system build is very quick you have been one of the very few who got that so quick turnaround welldone.
