Hmm after the call to the resolution rep at noon she said she would call back and write an email about which part is on BO that's holding up production on my system. I have no call nor email, but I emailed my EPP rep asking about the date and he sent me back an email that everything was ok and I should get the system by 2/12 even though it's still in production. Somehow I get the feeling that something is fishy here...
-
-
Mine was in production the entire time I had it on order, minus the first half hour or so when it was in process.
-
I hope so
and thanks...
Tougher decision will be whether i keep the G73 or the M17x .... I hate making decisions like this...
Hope everything is well with the M17x though IE no dead pixels etc... -
Yeah man, you've got two very nice machines to debate over. I very nearly bought a G73 - those things are probably the best quality and value for the dollar ever, but I figure I can wait until AW gets the 5870's now.
-
Whichever way you look at it the 5870 are not far away, then after that a few months alter the 5870 will get 256bit memory, as opposed to the 128bit memory. Lets hope my date moves from 24th to something else on friday. I do know from previous systems that the system does get updated on weekends and the factories work 24/7 around the clock. Fingers crossed.
-
That's the problem with laptops - there's always something better 2 or 3 months away so you just have to bite down and buy when you're ready
I was just checking out the G73s... can you customize them? The sites I was looking at all seemed to have "pre-built" configs -
Yatta! Pueolator just called, they delivering it tomorrow!!! Lol it got shipped yesterday, and i called them this morning for an ETA, they told me it would prob get to me ( quebec, canada) next monday!! And not its only tomorrow !!! Woohoo
-
I'm happy for you and hate you all at the same time!
-
welldone draco. Just goes to show in this case its been built and shipped quickly. Dont take the 24th est as 100% confirmed. Im sure dell will HAVE these turned around in notime.
-
mine still shows the 26th ordered it on the 4th still no word from my rep on the hold up
-
i ordered on the 2nd and delayed till the 23rd. called rep to get NBD shipping and put me on the "hotlist" to expedite my order. supposedly some of the items are on back order, most possibly the RGB screens. do call to find out more, i also emailed about the flickering problem and a possible fix yesterday but no response as of yet.
I dont want to receive a problematic laptop when they are working on a solution to it. i'd rather wait till they get it solved and then send it to me. -
Dude, I just want the machine... Dell is acting like a bunch of clowns on this, with some reps canceling people without warning and redoing orders, mysterious cancels and reorders, lost orders and parts delays for stuff that they should have had already had SOME kind of contract for.
I could stomach it all but seeing people place orders after others and get their systems is just lame, hell build the damn thing and send it and then send out the famous Complete Care folks and replace the part you didn't have. I understand parts delays happen, problems happen with new systems, but it's the less than apologetic attitude on Dell's part that really gets my ire, particularly as a first time Alienware buyer.
On top of that, not fixing the m15x throttling problem while continuing to sell systems, and all the while telling folks "Thank you for choosing Dell" and jumping off to get another "sale" knowing full well they can't fill the order!
Not venting on you, but Dell should simply give a final cost break based on order delays when they go over a month, that is just good customer service, and SOME guarantee on a timely delivery. If I hadn't ordered an m15x first and liked it so much I would have just said to hell with it by now. Point is, I shouldn't have to call someone and beg a couple hundred bucks because they screwed up, the reverse is true, they should be calling us and adjusting the price or some other benefit beyond the infamous "NBD" deal. That crap goes over well once, especially when you realize they probably have standing contracts for so many "NBD" deliveries which is why they give them out like candy. Trust me, it's not out of kindness or bending over backwards for a repeat customer. -
You raise some valid points, sir.
-
I understand. However, is just like you said "it should" but unfortunately, it is not the way things are. Your order will get delayed if it has to be delayed, no matter how unfair you think it is. Why not have it delayed, but with, say, $100 compensation? That's all I am saying.
With that in mind, I agree with your post. I wish the whole thing were hassle free. For some it is, but for others it is not. -
I reiterate, I accept delays that are admitted up front and the whole issue treated with customer consideration; Dell is simply out for the sale. It's business, and as a staunch capitalist I understand how they start taking the easy way out. It's that part of it I get irritated with, do what is right by the customer and he will likely buy more which is GOOD business, but screw with your typical middle class joe and he will think hard about spending a few grand on them next time.
Maybe they will get their heads out of their rears and actually fix their problematic systems... especially when folks like Joker, UncleWebb, Mandrake and all the others who spend a few hours or days at most and at least find a good work-around because they simply enjoy it.
Frankly I'd be ashamed to admit I worked at Alienware for Dell if I knew systems my company sold had the throttling problem and didn't do anything to fix it. Are all these AW guys just marketing wonks now or what, don't they USE the systems they build and play games and watch movies? I don't expect the hourly receptionist to but the bench group I sure as heck expect to. This reminds me of the South Park episode where they all played Warcraft, but the actual Blizz employees didn't even have accounts or played, exposing how out of touch the company was from the experience of using their product. -
Yeah. Im being delayed almost a full month due to RGB stock running low.
-
My position is that if I am dropping nearly $4k on a computer, the company should at least pretend to realize that I am not simply buying a netbook, and should treat me as some sort of preferred customer. That said, all customers should still receive good service. I'm not saying they need to take me to a movie, buy me dinner, and invite me back to their place for drinks afterwards - but dang dude, go to a luxury auto dealership, tell 'em you're gonna drive off the lot in something new and fully loaded, show em the money, and see how they treat you for spending top dollar on their product. Don't tell me it's different, because the principals are the same, and the reasoning holds. Now, given the sad truth is that this is not the way it takes place with corporations like dell, but that does not mean the consumer should settle for less than great service. Your average person works damn hard for their money, and any given business should work hard theirs.
That said, I still have a respect for the Alienware name, and I still intend to buy one of their machines (with 5870's hopefully), but that is not because of the horrid failure dell has put forth this time around - it's because I know the guys in the labs know their stuff and work hard to deliver a great product - it's the bean counters, sleezy suits, and corporate yes-men that i'm wary of and while it's in a round-about fashion, they're the ones at dell that are ruining people's experience with Alienware.
At the end of the day, I just hope someone at the corporate HQ is learning something from this. -
I know my "escalation rep" at Dell is going to learn a thing or two when I get done with him
-
I wish mine and her manager knew what "follow up with me this afternoon" means... and what the reply button on their email looks like...
-
Amazing isn't it?
-
On the plus side, those of us who get the system even this Friday will be able to return for 21 days which goes into CeBIT. So if AW announces a 5870 version of the m17x we can get it.
-
Just placed my 4th and hopefully last order for my R2. EDD 3/2, but i'm not stressing it anymore since i got a pretty decent deal and still have my case # for $100 refund for all the bs i went through.
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
When is CeBIT ? -
March 2-6 - so soon
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Great, my return policy ends on the March 6. Hopefully they announce the 5870s before then. -
Yes, as this drags on I am close to canceling my order again and just waiting for one with 5870's so I can be one of the first to enjoy the bug ridden R3
-
lol - If its any consolation I ordered mine on the 26th, it hit shipping last Friday and I still dont have it - lost in delivery perhaps?
-
I was thinking about that - How much better will the 5870 systems be? Same CPU, same RAM configs... the dual 4870s seem to perform well based on the testing others have done...
I'm not sure I'm willing to wait just to see what issues that version encounters...
Not that I won't be waiting anyway.. but still... -
Lol, if I'm last on delivery schedule, this is gonna be a loooong day! I keep checking the window every time I hear the sound of a vehicule that could be purolator lol!!! I think I'm worst than when I was young at christmas!
-
ITS HERE! YATTA! Waiting for it to heat up a bit before starting it, then i'll give info about it
-
LOL....it seems everyone has this problem when they first get it: "waiting for it to heat up a bit."
I think I got mine so fast from Nashville that it was still cold from the weather there. I opened it up and everything including the AC adapter was cold to the touch.
-
nice,, im still waiting for mine i take delivery today fedex says they are one hour delay because of the snow storm we had
-
Let us know how you get on...................... even though we hate you for ordering after most of us and getting it delivered before us
-
thats because he didnt order the 4gb ram at 1333
-
Awesome!! Congrats!! Enjoy!!
-
Good point .... maybe I shouldn't cancel my theoretical 03/2 ETA m17 with 4870's... thanks for the thought!
Good for you! *pokes another needle in Michael Dell voodoo doll*
Just curious, what version of the bios are all these shipping with, I would assume AO3...? -
It's A01. I read that around here somewhere. Bios for both M17x are different.
-
I don't know if this is a glitch but if you configure any kind of M17x-R2 system on the Dell (US) website, the preliminary ship date now shows to be 4/21/10. That's a long wait. If it's true then some components must be really backordered.
-
That's another reason I am waiting. . . hopefully by the time the 5870s are out, they'll have this bios nightmare settled, the machines will ship with the updates, and I won't have a headache right after I pull it from the box. . . hopefully.
-
WOW!! I really hope that isn't the NEXT updated shipping date I get...
I know, now I'm just being cynical
-
Take it with a grain on salt, man. Yours could ship today for all we know.
-
if they delay my order again, and it goes into march i am so canceling.
i think they did not anticipate such huge order volume, and they did not preorder enough components. -
There's probably some truth to that. If you happen to cancel though, at least you'll be able to reorder with a set of 5870's soon.
-
Well guys, last post on this thread, this is posted with my new M17x, and GOD, it's gorgeaous !! The beast is awesome, the lights ultra cool.. and the screen........................................................... DAMN it looks good !!! My keyboard so far seems 100% good, the touchpad isnt reacting as good as I would expect, dont really like the texture, but I bet i'll get used to it. I am now installing all my gadgets ( G9x, G15, camera drivers, and all ) then I'll run some tests and install a game, then play all night !!! ) will keep ya'll posted in the owner lounge section. GL to everyone waiting theirs !
-
just had a fun chat with my resolution/pinata rep - she said "all AW systems are on backorder, I am working with the manufacturing group to see when things might ship"
I again asked how my system could be backordered if I was assured all parts were available... [crickets]
after tearing into her a bit she finally was able to get herself off the phone...
2/17 looks like a pipe-dream at this point -
Congrats Dracomagus on the first day of the rest of your life
Me, i'm wishing i hadn't upgraded to the 1333 memory
-
I keep reading about the impending 5870s and people potentially upgrading their 4870s within a certain timeframe.
I'm guessing if the 5870s are released within the first 30 days of you receiving your system, you can upgrade it at the same price if you originally config'd it?!?
Am i in the ballpark on this?
Thanks! -
No, you'll need to purchase the cards from dell for list price (think $1000 minimum for both, prob more).
Or sell your R2 and buy a new system.
Or return it if you are within the 21 day window. -
Just got an E-mail from my rep he says the RGB LED's are on back order!!! He says mine will be ready next Monday but I don't believe that.
Order date 2/4/10 -
balls i ordered mine on 2/4 too! whens your estimated EDD
List everyone M17x-R2 ETA
