Try asking for a 9-cell battery... man that's where I screwed up...

Yeah, I've been getting that kind of routine from my "escalation rep... " I got treated better when I bought my cheesy little iPhone 3G from AT&T and they are just plain evil.

    So one thing that blows

The rep i used on Monday to place my THIRD order since my other 2 were canceled never called me back all week, after several messages and emails

So I called in and got a new rep who entered the upgrades I wanted - but she has to hold my order for 3 days after canceling my 3rd order to keep the other rep from taking this order (my 4th) away from her...

who knows how that will affect my EDD

i ordered on 2/2 and initial EDD was 2/8/ but 2 days later 2/23. I called and got NBD shipping, wanted to up to dual 4870s but was gonna get March EDD. so i opt for getting it soon and then asking them for an upgraded system. Anything I can ask them for? like a discount of some sort?

Ya.. I figured my 2/17 EDD wasn't going to happen so might as well re-order now and get the machine I want...

Here's what I've gotten so far

1 yr warranty added for free (now 2yrs total)
about $150 taken off (roughly 3.4%)
    and NBD shipping

going for the 2nd AC adapter, but if not i'll get a free printer :)

I am going to try and leverage the fact that they've screwed my last order up so bad it got auto-cancelled and ask for some stuff for the trouble of the reorder. Doubt it'll work tho, I'll probably end up getting the same dipstick I had to work with last time.

    One interesting note

I was driving earlier so I called Dell Financial Services - I wanted to up my credit limit by $500 to cover 100% of the M17x

I was told (after being on hold for 15min) that their current policy it to not increase or decrease anyone's credit limits.

I asked if her manager could do something for me and she said no

I then asked if she cared if I canceled my $3000+ laptop order and bought a competitor's product because their current policy was ridiculous - she said that's my choice

    Someone failed customer service training....

Well man, that sounds about par for the course - at least as far as my experience has been with their call centers. I've never had to wade through so much excriment to get to a nice product in all my life. Usually the people with the best stuff are good to the people with the money. Not so with Dell, definitely not so. You gotta try really hard to find those good reps - they exist, but they're vastly outnumbered.

Well what did you expect? No company can change your credit limit that’s up to your credit provider.
If they can't change your credit limit then they can't do anything more for you, do you really expect them to give you a 500 dollar discount? Or for them to send you the laptop then get you to pay the 500 dollars 1 month down the track? what you are asking is unrealistic and your last statement about cancellation makes you sound spoiled and immature, everything have rules and just because you throw a few measly grand at people don't expect those rules to disappear for you.
Dell needs a structure where everyone must follow, if there is no structure it opens up too much to corruption and chaos, you are not the only one paying 3 grand for a laptop, why would you get special treatment? infact every company have thier own policy, even expensive car dealers.

Dude - are you smoking? I called DELL FINANCIAL SERVICES - THEY PROVIDED ME THE CREDIT LINE

So who else do I ask for an increase? And it isn't "unrealistic" it happens everyday, they just happen to have a policy RIGHT NOW that they won't do it

I just wanted to include the entire purchase in the 18month no interest plan - not "unrealistic" at all...

    Darkreapers:
You sir, sound rather condescending and immature yourself with the insinuation that others would view their money as "a few measly grand". You would be both arrogant and naive to assume that kind of disposable income is easily attained and readily available to everyone buying these machines. Now whether they can afford to buy one or not or even should be buying one, that's another discussion entirely.

You are correct with your assertion that creditors will strictly adhere to their own policies and the law, but you are definitely no less spoiled and immature than the post you refer to in the way you have presented yourself, petty remarks and all.

    Good day sir.

    Mr Neutron:
Your goal to get the whole machine financed isn't unrealistic, but credit is a hard thing to get these days and I can't imagine Dell is any more likely to extend you a line than anyone else. That said, I do disagree with the way they conduct themselves over the phone. My dealings with other companies on big purchases have traditionally been far, far more pleasant.

    :(

EDIT: How do I get free stuff like the rest of you, I'm a bad liar/swindler for free , I am too honorable :/

A 2 week bump on my ship date is a huge deal, IMO

Also, you can see, from my sig, I'm in the Military, anyway I can use this to my benefit even though I bought my system 3 days ago?

Yep, yesterday I was told that 2 parts were backordered. 500GB hard drive and some other part but she didn't know which one (i assumed it was the RGB LED). She didn't know when they will be back in stock but let's hope 2/16 is correct (somehow I doubt it).

Who is telling you this? I have been calling twice a day for the past week and I have been told everything is there, and the delay is just part of the process. You must be talking to a super rep or something.

I have an escalated case as well, and I'm on the "Hot List" whatever that means. These guys are making this stuff up to get you off the phone I think.

I had an original order with a Aver tuner and they said for days that everything was on schedule. I dug a little deeper with tech support and found that the Aver card was holding my order up. I canceled it and guess what? New order number and back in line. Now it's a week later for the same config and nothing to show for it.

Their customer service really is horrid. Trust me, I've tried every tactic with every department. Nicest department I have found so far is tech support. They can give you more info than you might think. They are currently telling me that everything is in stock and no backorders at the moment. That may have to do with my place in line but my ETA is Feb 16th. Who knows honestly, they kinda got us by the balls guys... Estimated delivery date means absolutely nothing. You get it when you get it...

    My "estimated" delivery dates were Feb 6, 8, 9, 10, 23, 16, Mar 6, 15, then back to Feb 19,now 16th.

Funny/Crappy thing is that they came to my office and BROKE my laptop during a motherboard swap due to a bad Display port. That was Jan 29th. Still no replacement.

Dell is definitely big business and they really need work on their customer service approach and "deal with it" attitude.

I know that I am getting a good deal due to the upgrades they are giving me, but, cmon, I'd rather have my system instead of a paperweight.

    Just Ordered the following Config.

    Lunar Silver - Anodized Aluminum
    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    6GB DDR3 at 1333MHz
    Alienware M17x 240W A/C Adapter
    17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 (1200p)
Dual 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4870 in CrossfireX
    640GB Raid 0 (2x 320GB 7,200RPM HDDs)
    AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
    8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive,QuickSilver
    5.1 Channel Audio

Had a couple question about Crossfire-X and EQ2.

A guildie told me that he had to disable one of his Nvidia SLI cards in order to get acceptable frames rates in EQ2. Also told me that while using both cards his frame rates were in the single digits. He is using a desktop with pretty nice hardware dont remember the numbers right off hand.

But My question is: does any one know if I will have the same problem with the new M17X config listed above? EQ2 is my primary game and primary reason for ordering this new rig.

Also does anyone know if the M17X handles FSX and X-Plane 10 very well?

    Thanks, Loyalty

    Them's fightin' words, boy ;)

I can't speak for everyone on here, but I think most people are going to push for something for their trouble with Dell; this should not be taken as dishonorable or swindling them.

I currently have an M15x-R2, throttling and all from a company who KNOWINGLY sold me a product that was for all intents and purposes defective, and no effort to even fix it. I on the other hand have now (partly thanks to Dell not fulfilling my order of an M17x-R2) a chance of pursuing a full refund and credit to the cost of the M17x. I have to finesse the rep to get it, they won't offer it up; I feel no dishonor or shame whatsoever for trying to get Dell to make up for my troubles.

The other side of the coin are folks who get their rig, overclock it, burn something up, claim it failed and get another sent. This is clearly dishonest, but Dell selling things that are known to be defective is equally dishonest.

I canceled my original order today and reordered through the EPP website because I am a AAA member. I was leery that they wouldn't let me, but it wasn't a problem. Placed order with:

    224-8108 1 Lunar Silver - Anodized Aluminum
    317-3657 1 Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    317-3663 1 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    330-7841 1 Alienware M17x 240W A/C Adapter
    320-8856 1 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)
320-8858 1 Dual 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4870 in CrossfireX
    342-0678 1 1TB Raid 0 (2x 500GB 7,200RPM HDDs)
    430-3739 1 Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology
    313-8570 1 Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BR-R, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

ETA March 19, but the rep said and I quote "That is just a computer generated date it should only take about 3 days to put together and get shipped out." lol we'll see if that holds true.

If they dont have the part that needed to make your system then they cancel it and reorder. The main problem is this is if you have a Debit Credit Card with a credit limit per day let say 2k you are pushed back more due to the fact they have to call you to reorder.

Hey, yes, i was asking you.
I initially ordered on 1/19, but my order got canceled. I reordered on 2/1, got an EDD of 2/4 :), then it got bumped to 2/15 and now to 2/22...
It just proves that Dell release them in batches. I saw more people with the same dates (15->22). My guess is that we will all ship the same date.

Yeah i got the fun "call us or we'll cancel your order" call too.

I called back and got some call center. Told him to move forward and he gave me an edd of 2/19. Original order date 1/23, reorder 2/03. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

It was 2939.62. I tried to haggle, but to no avail. The guy I talked to was REALLY weird. Think his name was Mark.

Yeah the EPP saved me a few hundred. I would suggest calling and saying you are a AAA member. The guy I talked to didn't even verify or anything. I just told him I have my AAA # but I didn't have an EPP member # and he just went with it. Plus I wanted the Blu-Ray burner so I just canceled the first order. I was surprised that they let me actually. Also you get free shipping when using EPP.

I'll enjoy it more once I can reap the benefits of EPP, but until then I'll be a nervous wreck until Monday morning when I will attempt to cancel my then 6 day old in production order!
