My new order is gonna be even later, because I plan on getting the upgraded RGB screen and maybe a better processor than the one listed earlier.

if you get pushed again from your 2/16 date, then do call. and maybe get something. but ask nicely. if not, try again the next day with a different rep.

I hope you all get yours soon. I am just loving mine. I finally got to do a 25-man raid last night in WoW and it was just fantastic. I didn't realize how much color was in the game. Especially the effects on some of the boss fights with this RGB display. No excuse for me not moving out of some AoEs now. :)

I keep reiterating this, I've been told that all AW orders are on hold, though I suspect this is for the M17x with certain configurations. Mind you, this comes from reps, but I have had 2 separate ones tell me this now, one regular sales and one in the escalation group.

The RGB LED screen is the main culprit, but there are reports of shortages with:

    Wireless N cards
    DVD drives
    1333mhz memory
    HDD drives

I also suspicion that in Dellienware is slowing orders down once they heard about the flickering issues with the dual ATi 4870's from users.... they certainly didn't hear it from their own QA ;)

I suspect too that since the drive options have almost all gone from the M11x now along with several memory configurations that those orders along with the M17x and M15x orders overwhelmed Dellienware's supply chain.

Why has it been like 2 months and you've NOT gotten a system yet?

I see your sig, but what could possibly be a valid reason for this? Does EVERYONE go through that, too?

Ha! If anyone at Dell could give me a reason I'd be much happier!

The first cancel was due to the DVD drive

The second was unknown and the back-order I assume was for the LCD, but at the time I hadn't ordered the RGB screen but since I was already getting pushed out I upgraded my order to the RGB and the SSD

Speaking of SSD, is it REALLY worth my money if all I want is enough space to store my music and Steam games?

I can't really justify the price and I'm not a turbonerd about storage and GB, etc, I personally don't care too much about read/write speeds, unless there is something about it that I don't know about that'll be extremely detrimental to the performance of my machine.

It really depends on what you're doing. I'm going to use this laptop for work and play - so the screen and Dual 4870s are for me :) I also have a desktop gaming system so my laptop will be more specialized

The speed and SSD are for work - I will need to have 3 to 5 Virtual PC VMs running for software demos so I need quick access and the horsepower to keep them all running quick.

If you plan on using this like a standard laptop/PC then I'd get a big fat SATA disk and you'll be all set.

Yeah I plan on using it for gaming, tbh, thanks for the advice. I'll stick with SATA, it's worked fine for me in the past, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, especially at that cost! :O

Also, while I'm at it, kinda stuck between the 720QM and the 620M

    http://steamcommunity.com/id/deltawing/games

I wanna be able to play a lot of the more intensive games flawlessly, and I do have a 360 so I play the games like MW2 and Bioshock 2 on there, I'd maybe play Bad Company 2 on my laptop, as well as 360, we'll see.

    Right now I can't play TF2 more than 20 FPS :/

How can you be stuck between two processors that cost the same? One is dual core, one is quad core... this isn't rocket science. Get the 720QM.

From my understanding, Quad Core and Dual Core have different benefits for different types of usage of the system, but I was leaning towards the 720QM, thanks.

    Depends on what you want.

The 620 has it's benefits and either runs the same or better than the 720.

Shirley posted benchmarks so you can look at those for an idea.

Plus, the 620 is 32nm and will run cooler and use less power than the 720.

    Dear Andrew,

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.

I understand from your e-mail that you wish to cancel the order number XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

I apologize for the unexpected delay we encountered processing your order. I have submitted a request to cancel your order but cannot guarantee cancellation. If your order cannot be cancelled and ships, please accept delivery and contact Consumer Customer Care at 800-624-9897 to arrange a return authorization.

Welp, here's hoping the cancellation goes through so I can reconfigure a system with the EPP discount and some upgraded parts!

Quick question, is it the same price to add a year of warranty onto your system every year as it would be to just buy 3 years off the bat for Advanced Warranty?

Hello All new here found this thread trying to find out what the heck was going on with Alienware. I ordered 1/15 went through the debacle with DVD, got ordered canceled and was given a new date of 2/15 got the it moved to 2/22. I canceled my order today and reordered better components since i probably wont get it on the 2/22 either. I also got to reorder with the EPP since on 1/15 i didnt get to do that glad Boeing lets us do that. Can't wait to get it though.

Even though i saved money i put that savings back into better components from the first system i order. I was hearing a lot of people talking about the RGB LED screen so i thought why not try it. I still don;t like dell and the crappy customer service.

The problem was not there attitude or anything like that but the fact that i called on Thursday and asked if my order was going to be delayed for the delivery for Monday 2/15 and she assured me that it would be there and come this morning it was delayed to the 22nd, that was the second time somebody assured me and could live up to there promises.

ha! I did that TWICE! When I called on 2/2 I was told everything was on schedule for 2/5, then later on 2/2 I got the email that it was canceled..

Then I called to verify that my 3rd order was going to ship, was told everything was good to go - got the email that it was backordered...

The problem right now is there isn't any direct competition at this level for notebooks...

It just seems like there is no communication at Dell between departments and you can never get a straight answer. They just tell you what you want to hear just to get you off the phone.

Yep - that's pretty much how it works. That's why I've reached the "acceptance" stage of this purchase.

While it's not even close to the level of customer service/care I am used to when making a 'high-end' purchase - I no longer have any interest in "fighting the system" as it has proven futile

All I can hope is it comes sooner than it is reported, and it never has any issues..

haha - don't make me come out of my "happy place"

that REALLY pissed me off... just because some of us ordered during DVD-Gate we are still waiting... while others timed it better and are enjoying themselves...

Spring is almost here... and with Spring comes Ducati Season (yes it's REAL! :) ) and I'll think less about this whole debacle

I had this question as well... from what I read a quick rule of thumb is that like the RMA master said the 620 is right now better for games since few use more than 2 cores. GTA IV I believe runs better on the 720 with all the cores (4) active. Games tomorrow (whenever that is) are likely to take advantage of quad core designs. If you don't plan on keeping it for long, get the 620, otherwise (as I did) get the 720.

When I canceled my first order due the order being in limbo, I opted for the 820, I just couldn't justify the performance vs. price difference for the 920, I'll just swap out for it, or something better when the time comes.

I didn't but I wish I had; I'm loathe to even entertain the thought of canceling and re-ordering again.
