They told me they cancelled my order back on the 9th. It kept showing in process even as late as today. Back on the 9th I was told it would be cancelled automatically within 24 hours, then later a rep told me 48 hours. I called today and they still had it in process with a ship date of the 28th of February, and the guy cancelled it right away. He told me it was cancelled because the 500GB hard drive was out of stock and they werent able to tell when they've have them back in and said I could reorder the same configuration with the 5870's if I wanted to minus the 500GB hard drive, so I was like "hell yeah" lets do that now.
Well suffice it to say, they transfer me over to sales and they spend 30 minutes with me on hold only to come back and say I cannot order with the 5870s. I expected as much, but the guy seemed to know they were coming out and that they were going to be ready for order soon, so I had a hope he was right. I spent another 15 minutes on the phone talking about how to get a better deal only to be put on hold for another 10, after which I had to hang up and get some things done around the office. lol
So, after a month's worth of BS, I am still no closer to getting my machine and with the previous ship date sitting at the 28th, I am gonna just wait until those 5870's ARE ready for order since it looks like it's only going to be a couple of weeks difference now anyways. Definitely not going to try for the 500GB HDD tho, that's probably the one reason why I didn't get my order 2 weeks ago.

At least your getting ahold of reps i keep calling the 2 i know and only get there machines and they never call or email me any info. What an ordeal this is when your willing to drop xxxx amount of money on a computer....
-
my Estimated Ship is currently 2/17 (down from 2/25 somehow).
Its probably just crappy predicting on the part of the automated system. -
Oh they aren't my original order rep. That rep refuses to reply to my emails or help me fix any of the issues I've had with the order (like the nameplate screw up). He even told me to call customer service and ask another rep to fix it. He also did this after having assured me my order would be delivered within 2 weeks and he would be available for me to rely on.
-
Or maybe you got hooked up with NBD?
Or maybe parts came in early?
Or maybe who the hell cares you're getting your system earlier than expected? -
<------ sad panda

Hey guys, wanted some advice from the long timers on here...
Since the orders are who knows in what status at Dellienware, and considering the 5870 configuration is around the corner, should I just cancel and wait it out or not? I know this is somewhat a personal preference, but these are the things I am considering:
1) I have an M15x i7 I am using now that I will either have to sell to a relative on a loss on a payment plan or sell it on Ebay, etc for a greater loss.
2) The 5870's are more future proof, but will likely add $300 to the price
3) The 5870's rock and are DX11, but supplies of them might be a problem, and....
4) Dellienware's less than stellar performance when it comes to fulfilling orders for the M17x right now
Just curious what some of you might choose to do in this situation, and I am sure I am not alone in trying to decide. The problem is I really do NEED a laptop right now, which is why I am now stuck with the M15x even though my escalation rep "Azam" claims to be checking on a full credit turn in towards my M17x order.
Any thoughts appreciated, unless your going to give me grief

Here's an email I just got regarding my newest order (4th)
Thank you for choosing Dell Customer Care. This is mohammed the Manager form Dell in refernce the order delay. I would like to inform you that the order for adapter is shipped out of Dell today VIA UPS with the tracking # xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and it will be delivered to you with in 3 – business days and I would also like to infom you that the order for the system is in Production and the Estimated Ship Date would be on 03/23/10. I am working with the manufacturing team to get the order shipped out sooner. -
It's a good question - personally I'm sticking with the 4870s but my reasons are different than most
The M17x-R2 isn't going to be my primary gaming platform - I have a I7 920 desktop with a GTX 285 for most of my gaming
I really want it for the: Kickass looks, sweet performance which I'll use at work, and to game when I'm on the road
If this was going to be my main system then I probably would wait and get the rockin' 5870s - I'm not sure how easy it is to upgrade a laptop (usually it isn't very upgradable since ASICs are part of the motherboard) but if it can be done down the road, great! -
Aaarghh 3/23!!! I'm having a stroke waiting for 2/26!
-
I just had to authorize the production with new edd of or before 2/22. The rep told me they had all the parts and there would be no more delays.
Fact or crap? -
Lets pray for fact!!!!
-
Thats what i was told on 2/3 the first time i was canceled and 2/2 after ordering 1/15 Though now since i complained and actually cancel my order on Saturday i am getting mine tomorrow.
-
That was the date I got for when the DVD drives will be back in stock.
-
Like i said before who do i believe>?
A interent rumor, that could be true or not.
a dell rep(s) that lie as bad as politicains. which could affect whether the interent rumor is tru or not.
or my edd? -
The only thing you can trust is the FedEx tracking number
-
This man speaks the truth!
-
I am gonna rage if I get an email like this, I'm already slated for 3/16
-
i better get it soon.ordered on 2/2, 2/16 first then edd is 2/23 but i'm hoping for this friday.
-
As a great man once said " I have a dream"
-
I'm foaming at the mouth a little waiting for this thing.
-
lol so true...
-
now i kinda regret getting only a single 4870 seeing everyone with duals, but i was planning to get the 5870 when it comes out. lets hope its not too much money. around $300? any details on that?
-
atleast you got rgb screen everyone is drooling over, I only could afford dual 4870's
-
mmmm the glory that is and will be~ Well eventualy and in dells dictionary gruelingly long!
-
if money is the problem then i suggest you toss out 1 4870 and get the lowest possible hdd which i believe is 250gb and go for the RGB. it's mighty important, the graphics card and hdd you can always upgrade later, the screen, much more difficult.
-
For me (and most here), 50% of the R2 IS the RGBLED.
I would have gone a single GPU before getting the crappy CCFL display (it's pretty bad). I don't have an issue with CCFL, as some are VERY good, but the one in the AW is not at all. -
So if you dont get RGB its not worth getting?
-
it should really be the main reason to get the r2 if you dont go rgb might aswell get the r1
-
Yes.
/10char -
main reason i got r2 was because it was cheaper to get a faster machine than the r1. The only thing i changed in the r2 was the videocards and i have the lowest hdd. I really really want the rgb screen but im just going to have to suffer sending it in for a later upgrade.
-
if i want to upgrade to the RGB led screen and the processor and the blue ray burner can i do that later. Would that be recommended?
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
My R2 went into production on the Feb 11th, but the website shows my delivery date as "temporarily unavailable".
-
Upgrading that screen later is going to cost at least 2x the upgrade price of $250 (probably more).
You'll be able to do it yourself - just buy the part from Dell - but like I said, and arm, leg, and first born. -
well theres not alot i can do complain about these delays and try to haggle for one, i cant fork out any more cash.
-
Just got a shipping confirmation for my free Targus 17in Platinum Roller Laptop Case - Laptop carrying case
-
I would of called Monday but thinking President Day. Dell would of been full of Schools Alot of companys have that day off. Everyone and there GrandMa was off and calling Dell. But today I will call and see if there any change.
-
Does anyone know if anyone ever been shipped their R2 with the RGB LED Screen Yet?
-
$300 was a guess at the price increase over the dual 4870s... to buy a pair from Dellienware is going to be like $1000 we think; I am not sure if folks were factoring in a 10% discount or not with that price.
-
so who from this "batch" will be the first to get his m17x-r2 ?
-
Oh yes, check the thread on issues with the HD4870s... a lot of people have not gotten them, mainly the old-timers and those "in the know" who reacted to the news that the DVD part numbers where a problem.
The new folks like of us were kind of unsure and delayed canceling and reordering... we are now the ones getting the shaft by Dellienware for our naivete
I am tempted more and more to cancel and just wait for the 5870s... but then I might not get a machine until June the way Dell is going... -
I bet it's going to be Mandrake
Those NBR guys are all tight with Dell -
-
I ordered mine 1/15 and it left INDIANAPOLIS, IN at 1:28am and is on its way to my house, i am so excited i just cant sleep right now
-
well, i hope you're the first from many to come
i made my first order on 1/19 but since then 3 of my orders been canceled. now i am on an order that was placed on 2/1 and my edd is 2/22 with nbd. -
ENVY!! I still don't have my new order number - So in 2 or 3 days I'll have an authentic M17x-R2, never used, shiny black - POWER ADAPTER!
oh I can hear all of your hearts breaking over the fun I'll be having with my new power adapter... I'll give it a special place on my desk, I hear the voltage throughput is unbelievable compared to older versions
So if any of you who already have your units want to come by and plug your R2 into my new power adapter - $5 per hour seems reasonable...
-
I dont see why you wouldnt get yours soon you have the same configuration i have. On Saturday my EDED was 2/22 then yesterday it was change till today, but i think only because i cancel my order on saturday and they didnt want to lose a sale so they shipped it out as fast as they could.
-
your to funny, for about a month know i have had my alienware laptop bag that i had ordered at the same time as the laptop. I've been wearing it around the house practicing for when i actually go my laptop
-
same here, edd 2/23 i hope i get mine this week. its still in production on the dell website though. -.-
-
Pushed again this morning (3rd time). Originally ordered 1/14. I'm done, I'm out! Thanks Dell!
May as well wait for the 5870's now..... or look elsewhere? What a joke! -
