Don't you prefer to get some goodies out of them for this fiasco ? i bet you're really close and won't need to wait that long anymore. Maybe they can throw in extra memory or that bd writer ?

One thing i've been thinking about lately, is that pretty soon the pressure on AW to build new machines will lighten and they will start popping them out faster. So, ordering now and waiting two weeks might get you the same +- EDD as ordering in 2 weeks with the 5870 in case it comes out.
This is just a theory.. what do you guys think ?

I already tried that. My rep is a complete jerk! He said "no, we don't do things like that here".

I asked him to check into my order... He agreed, but I got absolutely no response from him.

go with customer care, forget sales reps they are useless with those issues. Call customer care, escalate, and you'll get what you want.
By now i'd be calling there pretty pissed.
What i did was i called, spoke to some indian guy, explained my frustration and issues. He then opened 2 requests 1. expedite my order 2.free NBD.. NBD was authorized after 30 minutes. 2 days later i received an email from customer care rep, that stated that he understands my situation and he will get the needed authroizations to compensate me for my troubles. I am still waiting on the answer, but at least they try.

    mfractal speaks truth

Also - if you go to a new rep to re-submit your order you have to wait 3 days after canceling the old order (so the old rep cannot get sales credit) to place the new order - which might not matter if you are going to wait for the 5870s

So going to customer care will allow you to hopefully move the existing order along (if you want to)

yesterday my estimated ship was 2/18.

    today its 2/17

and I'm still in the build stage.

I'm fairly certain either i'm not in the build stage, or there's no way these ETA's are gonna be met.

did u try to contact customer care ? they might shed some light if you're lucky enough to get a rep that actually knows what he's talking about/wasn't taught to lie through their teeth.

Yeah, i am pissed with the misinformation that is going on there

like everyone said, you need to get someone else, preferably a supervisor from customer care. if your purchased using EPP, make sure its a supervisor from that department.

My original system was identical to the one in my signature, only it has a 820QM. I originally purchased the M17x R-1 (which came with a load of problems that i ended up returning). This R-2 came with a broken touchpad and freezes with I unplug the power adapter. I told the rep, I'm just returning this thing for a refund, don't bother with a system exchange. He set up the RMA and dispatched a UPS label. I mentioned at the end of the call if a processor upgrade would be possible, he said no and I left it at that, but I had bigger plans...

Then I emailed him this message:

    ------------------
    Juan:

Thank you for all your help. I will follow these instructions diligently.
I'm really disappointed that i received such a poor quality machine.

Like I said, I would have been willing to keep with the purchase if some
kind of complimentary upgrade was offered in light of all of the issues
I've had with this machine and with the M17x R-1 (it came physically
broken where the speakers are, dead pixels over screen, BSOD errors
    and random system lock-ups).

With the R-1, I was told by a representative like yourself that I had to
try a system exchange before I could get a refund! Could you imagine that?
He lied to me. What I believed was a new policy was instead something he
maliciously made up. The time it took the new system to be built and shipped
to me put me outside of the return policy! After about a MONTH of dealing
with the "special escalations team" they finally let me return the second
system (which came with issues as well). My entire M17x experience has
been distraught with terrible experiences, both in the machine and in the
    customer support.

I really like this system, but I can't stand the fact that each time I've
ordered it, it has come with physical damage, faulty hardware... etc.
I just really wish I could just get an m17x without any problems whatsoever.
If you have ever seen an upgrade done because a customer has repeatedly
had terrible experiences like I have, check with your superior and see if an
upgrade to a better processor is possible in light of my perils. If not,
I will of course continue on with the return with UPS.

For reference, I grant you permission to pull up my previous order number
of the m17x R-1. There should be two: the original, and the system
exchange I was tricked into agreeing to that put me outside of the return
    policy of 21 days.

For me, the issue really isn't resolved. I'll always want an amazing
gaming laptop, and the M17x is supposed to be the best. I don't know if it
could be argued that I deserve a processor upgrade for my troubles, but it
would be an incredible sign of good faith on the part of Dell and
Alienware, even to consider it. If its entirely impossible, Juan, I will
continue along with the order cancellation and send this system out when
UPS arrives. Let me know if Dell's stance on this issue changes given the
new information I've conveyed to you.

    Sincerely,

    xxxxxxx xxxxx

    -------------------------

Juan called me back shortly after receiving the email. He asked exactly what processor I wanted (even though the only upgrade from an 820 would be a 920 lol). I obliged and he said upper management would be reviewing my request and in the meantime, the RMA would be canceled. Two days later I got a phone call from his supervisor letting me know that the request had been approved. He reviewed the system specs (which were identical except for the processor) reviewed my nameplate engraving, and emailed me a new order number.

And that's about it. True story. Never give up. Never surrender.

I woke up in full disappointment

Yes, this has been identified as the special MLK edition, ie "I Have a Dream" edition... your reps leave you to dream about one day having that machine they promised :p

    You're living the dream...!

    @ZenithNoesis:

If you don't mind I may plagiarize your email to try to get my M15x returned for the M17x that Dell left me hanging over the 21-day period, basically as you described. I got suckered by Dell several times now...

No, not when I am actually supposed to be working sneaking posts out and trying to read at the same time...

When I get emails from Dell my mind gets all messed up and I get spacey:

"Thank you for your enduring patience, I wanted to keep you informed about your order for Alien ware computer and as per my contact with factory today I see that your order is in Knitting stage and soon will be moved in to testing. We are making every efforts to complete this order and I will keep you posted with further updates."

Wow.... I thought they were trying to get RID of heat

Good luck! Dell just plain sucks now-a-days. I wish someone would make nice laptops like the m15x and m17x AND have good customer service. The
Alienware engineers should quit and start up a new computer company.

I've ordered 3 computers from Dell in the last 3 years. 2 were DOA and one was shipped 2 weeks late. I really don't know how this company stays in business....?

The first 3 computers I bought from Dell in 2003 and 2005 (2) were flawless.

Customer service has went straight into the toilet!

Shame on Alienware for selling out!
