okay, but canceling is not really an option because i need a laptop asap. can i later exchange the cards then? or do i have to go buy a 5870 and leave my 4870 to rot.

 

You can do what I plan to: Sell the 4870s and buy a 5870 from RJTech. They give a 1 year warranty with all their video cards which is nice. The only factor we have to worry about is whether Dell will update the R2 bios to include 5870 support or will they shift to a different chipset? (e.g. HM55). My bet is on the former since I don't think the HM55 even supports SLi/Crossfire but it will probably require a bios update and should be on their website. However, taking that gamble is up to you.

 

Given the heat issues with the 920XM, do you anticipate ever being able to use 5870s in CFX with it?

 

i will stick with a single gpu i guess.

The CPU cooling is independent of the dual video card cooling so they are unrelated. I think I will be able to get the 920xm temperatures under control once I apply copper heatsinks to the CPU heatpipe + MX-3 paste.

Dual 4870 by far.

 

Dual 4870s = faster; single 5870 = simpler, less power.

I would never get an M17x with a single card. It's simply not worth it given the cost of the system. You'd be better served going with a cheaper Asus G73 in that case. Go all or none with this system.

Don't know about starcraft but I'd imagine MW2 would be no problem since even a lowly M11x runs it in high detail.

 

starcraft probably would not take the resources that mw2 does.

Well, just got off the phone with them...they are going to "expedite" my order...again...considering it's been expedited twice already, I'm not to impressed with their expedite service. Asked for some "incentives" considering how many times this has happened, which they are looking into...so I dunno..guess it's a waiting game again, just like everyone else.

well, i have decided that if my current EDD of 2/24 is not met i am canceling the order and waiting for after CEBIT to see whether they are releasing those 5870s.
At this point it doesn't make much sense to wait more when those cards are around the corner.

I was really good while waiting for my first order, but on 2/2 when it was canceled by Dell I went nutty for about a week

I think I have my order the way I want it now (since I had plenty of time to think about it)

As I've mentioned, this is for work and play, but I already have a PoS work laptop and a gaming desktop and the AW was to have a machine I would enjoy using all day, since I'm on my laptop about 8 hours a day

So now I'm numb to Dell's trickery, they can no longer rattle my cage - I think I got a good deal so here I wait...

 

There is an E-value code in the ad you can use to get the 8gig for 4 gig price...I got the flyer today..It's not good for epp sales....

that's weird, I ordered on 2/11 and I got a call today from a supervisor stating that the only thing on backorder for my system is the Intel 6300 WiFi card.

 

Apparently Dell needs to clean their procurement agency out and start fresh with people that can actually secure contracts with parts manufacturers that honor said contracts. What a buzzkill for so many people.

 

Yeah. -.-; Its annoying and irritating and i still STILL don't have a ETA.

Yeah, this whole thing is odd... it almost feels like Dellienware thought an awful lot of people were going to buy stripped down AW rigs just to sport the logo and didn't line up contracts for enough higher end parts. This to me is a gross misunderstanding of the market... one being that if someone is going to shell $1K more than an ASUS or Clevo lunchbox design for equivalent performance, they have enough access to cash to buy a well equipped machine. I for one felt it was silly to buy a great rig and either scrimp on the screen, video cards or wireless for instance, and I imagine I was in the majority. Either this or Dellienware got stiffed by their Asian suppliers...

 

I bet most of the delays from the end of January to the beginning of February will ship out later next week. Just my prediction.

 

geez i have the blu-ray, Space black chassis, 4870's AND the RGB LED. My ETA is 3/23 but you guys are making me think thats not happening

my first order was on january 25 and it was cancelled and re orderd on feb 1 and now that one was cancelled today and i have an estemated eta of march 25. im canceling and will never buy dell or alienware again

 

I ordered on 2/3 and also got an email today saying only the Intel 6300 is on back order but they should have it next week. I complained to my customer care rep about the delay and she only offered a 50 dollar coupon, so I declined and demanded more. She seemed to get scared and said her supervisor will call me to work something out. I heard that if you order through dell financial it is easier to get the case escalated, is that true?

 

I sent a Facebook message to Team Blackhawk to see if they know anything lol but they said they might not have access to NZ sales info but will do their best anyway. Any info they give would be more than I've received from Dell NZ...
I like their name anyway lol it sounds special forces-like haha
