I think at that point it's worth ordering again/waiting for the 5870...

Might as well share this with you guys, I know this sounds crazy but I had like my 5th m17x dream hahaha. Pretty pathetic I know but being without a gaming computer for almost a year can do those things.

Anyway my dream lastnight was my laptop was shipped and like some gang like stopped the fedex truck and took my m17x away !

 

this sounds more like a nightmare. Damn hooligans !

 

What is the next CPU after the 920XM? What is suppose to replace it and when?

Well I was hoping for a 930XM at like 2.13ghz turbo to 3.8ghz or something like that.

The 920XM is almost 6 months old. It's new on the M17X...

 

Well I know that intel has a new processor thats in the works for the mac book pro, perhaps that

I can't remember where I read it at the moment, I know the mb pro will come out soon with the current m processors but the article I read said the new ones would support on chip graphics as well. I'll try and find it.

The only good thing that can come out of all the wait is that CeBit is next week so hopefully I can cancel my order if they anounce the 5870 for the M17x

 

They will probably announce the 5870's but you prob wont get one until at least mid april

 

That's OK, I've been waiting since 1/14 (when I ordered the M17x-R2 and they cancelled it). I think I got used to all the waiting.

 

Yah, I wish I had your will power. After all ready experiencing the power of my first r2 im itching to get my replacement.

 

If i don't get a ETA even though my rep basically promised me one. I'm calling his manager and shall rage rather hard. I'm on the edge of Canceling due to this pathetic delay. Being getting the run around from Dell. and Him, I'm waiting for his reply on a email before hand. And I'm just sick and tired of waiting.

 

I'm holding out hope that we're gonna hear about the 5870's next week. Time shall tell.

 

well. if you wait for the 5870s you probably wont get yours till the 3rd of may. so there you go. calculations: ppl who ordered today get an eta of end of march. 5870 will be available at the end of march, hopefully. and your eta is end of april, with some delays, middle of May thats a good 3 months of waiting. good luck ^^

OMG. that is the exact same thing my rep told me, except he won't know the discount/coupon will be approved til later. The request to expedite order was filed, but no idea blah blah blah, and about your incentive, will let you know later when its invoiced blah blah blah.

ridiculous and amaturistic on dell's part. Don't know what to say. Guess I can't complain cause some have it worse than me. Plus they are at least trying to sweeten the deal with the mamba for me.

 

Yeah, How much is the mamba? They only gave me a 50 Dollar USB drive.

The mamba is a good deal. I was able to get a free upgrade from blu ray reader to burner, $150, but I guess my situation is a little different.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I had a lot of ideas and just kept coming.

I don't understand how the factories could have no answer except for two possibilities. Dell simply does not track individual laptops through production. They probably simply get a config sheet and build it. Because of this they can't look up the order since there is no internal tracking. Why else could a rep not get an estimate from the factory? It is pretty simple, if there was tracking they could see how many computers are waiting for parts and what number in the queue you are and thus tell you when it will be ready.

The other case is they simply lie that the computer is in production when it really is not. I think this is more believable since there is no way that a computer can be in the build stage for 3 weeks. My computer probably never had a kitting stage really, they just put together what the could and put it aside. Ideally the kitting stage would wait till all parts are in. It's not a bad thing they are doing what they can to speed things up, but it is simply a lie to say a laptop could be being built for over 3 weeks.

Not that anyone from Dell really cares but this is the way I think order statuses should be. Everyone at the factory should work like an assembly line. When the process begins, each computer has a barcode placed on it, which is the order number. Then at each station the order number is scanned so the system logs that at X time part Y was installed. If there is a part missing or back-ordered then the order status would just say, Back-order on part Z, estimated to arrive at the factory U day. Just to keep people from getting mad, the estimated time should be the real date, not some arbitrary number they set which can be moved around at will.

Dell is a huge company and there is no excuse for them not being able to provide correct EDDs. I also find it odd that the more people complain the less the EDD is pushed back. It almost seems like Dell is thinking that since you are calling you are mad and thus could potentially back out and cancel. So they assign a special rep to you who keeps telling you it will be there by the end of the week. Little bits of hope can keep people coming back. To those people who do not complain the EDD is more accurately pushed back by weeks at a time.

anyways guys jst get a Asus g73. Speaking from experience this laptop IS AMAZING!!!! the pefect balance of design, power, and weight. Trust me you dont want anything heavier then this laptop. Sure the M17x got RGB screen and Dual ATi 4870s but the G73 comes with a free gaming mouse a bag and a steelseries gaming headset. To me thats a clear winner!

 

I just graduated and got a job out here as a financial analyst. Been here 7 months now, definitely an interesting place.
