So, if I get a M17x-R2, with i7-920xm, Dual 4870s, and the RGB Display I will for sure:
1) Expirance a major delay before I receive the system
2) And have the "Flickering" issue
3) Possibly have an issue with my ATi Crossfire not working
This is the system I want but cant beleive that anyone would still order this based on the above information?
I want someone to convince me otherwise because to be honest, I really want this machine.. and would really like to spend $4500 USD for it. But I need it soon. I am in the Military and need it before I take a trip 12 April.

Shipped Today
-
Congrats man!
more 'who the F knows what's going on over there?'
your order went in 1 day ahead of me and i'm still EDD 3.19
specs are similar... -
Thanks.
I almost did not post. Too many folks should be ahead of me. -
I'm glad you did post... At least I know that the m17xR2 and its components are in fact real, and not mythical creatures that don't exist!
-
Definitely this
I have the same order date as that guy, maybe some luck for me despite a 3/18 EDD? -
well. i ordered 12 days before he did and i still didnt get no boxing nor shipped notice... i am upset at dell. raging again tomorrow.
-
dear god, this is just from the dell forum, lets hope its not true:
""By silhouet in Alienware
Well - ok - after 4-6 cancellations because they couldn't get it right (after the cancellation that was never supposed to happen), I have now recreated my order and started all over. I now have the system in production AGAIN. Hope this one doesn't cancel like the last try start on 2/2.
Now - a little communication from Dell would make a huge difference. Delays happen and I can deal with them - even longer ones - even with being anxious to get my hands on my laptop.
Here is what I found out FINALLY. I hope this helps those in the same boat as me waiting on the laptop. Apparently, 6-8 weeks ago, one of the BIG gaming companies made a very large order of the M17's. Apparently this order used up the stock of wireless cards, LCDs, and ATI video cards. This is why we are seeing such a long delay in delivery of the M17 laptops.
While it doesn't help us in getting our machines sooner, at least I can now understand WHY they are so delayed and messed up. From what I could find, it sounds like the expectation is that as follows:
1) Wireless cards have now come in
2) LCDs are expected to be in around the 15th or so
3) ATI Video cards (single and dual) are expected to be in around 3/20 or so
These dates may not be exact, but is somewhere close to what Dell is expecting in parts delivery. So if you have a date prior to like 2/23, you can probably expect a delay to around end of the month (March).
I finally got a great sales person that was able to work with me and get everything straightened out (including the discounts and such). Took some work for him but he did an AWESOME job!!!! He said he will stay in touch with me throughout the process and will follow the order through delivery for everything and keep me updated.
I'll provide any additional news that I may turn up.
DELL - if you had put on the site that many of the components were back-ordered due to a very very large previous order - and when the expectation of those components places them at DELL - you would probable have a lot happier customer base. We only ask to be told what is going on so we don't just keep getting delay notices every time a delivery date arrives
Good luck all - sounds like Dell actually expects to start shipping again end of the month!!!!!! ""
i hope its not really true. -
That Does Suck for you....however this puts me right on scheduale.... i can forget about it now & be pleasently suprised end of march...hopefully.
you should get an extra GPU out of this Stargazer. apply some heat to the fools over at Dell! -
I had my original phone sales rep expedite my order.
I had a member of "Team Blackhawk," expedite my order.
And I had a Dell post sales rep expedite my order.
Found Blackhawk on facebook and found the Dell rep on the dell forums in the "received your system?" thread. -

They also probably have to replace a lot of R1's with R2's as well, and that might contribute to a delay, and replacement laptops should have priority.
My replacement ETA is March 11th. It better arrive by that date or I will be plenty pissed. -
thanks vato, i do intend to ask them for a gpu upgrade, but they keep saying they can't tell me anything until my order is shipped. i'm will keep trying though. on my next ETA 3/5 if they delay it again, i will demand it, in a more angry way.
-
Ahhh crap, this isn't going to end well. I think I am just going to cancel and wait till 5870s come in. They are just dicking me around.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Those may in fact be 5870's coming on that date. We'll see I guess. -
Im trying to talk to the Consumer Sales Manager. I heard that they can get things done. Even though i FINALLY got a new Order status. The wait was Disgustingly pathetic..
-
Dmac, from what I've gathered by the time you would actually receive your system there should be a new set of BIOS that clear up most stuttering issues? (check that though)
The delay however is a different story and is a completely roll of the dice at the moment. I ordered mine last Friday and I have an ETA of 03.29.10 -
can you pm me his/her number and extension? or email of some sort? appreciate it.
-
I better step in here, because I think my Crossfire issue is probably unusual. The flickering... that's another issue. I will say this, thankfully I have had experience with computing in general, or I would be seriously pissed. SLI in general is glitchey; this is not Dellienware's fault... it happens sometimes, and like anything you can walk away or stick with it if it's a simple fix.
BUT....
I think the parts snafu led to inadequate testing of final production units in the rush, perhaps mine directly. With that said, the delays are still just total BS. Dell's line about build to order is not a good excuse, some kind of reasonable delivery time is expected, to me three weeks is fair, six weeks or more deserves some kind of consideration. The flickering is a production defect, like a car, and the manufacturer is addressing it in a timely manner. I think now the major delay is quite possibly this news (blame Joker's trip to Alienware - lol) because they keep backtracking on their estimates on parts.
Now with all that said....
The systems are simply beautiful beasts, and once one or two issues are resolved IF you happen to have them.... the fun is to be had, simple as that and then the systems rock. You can buy equal performance for less... but the fun of the system itself is not there, nor possibly is the construction quality, and while Dell's support may sometimes be questionable, there IS a large company behind all this now along with a loyal fan-base, something that is actually worth a lot the more you think about it.
DO NOT get hung up on my problem with Crossfire, it really has turned out to be a non-issue after the drivers were reloaded.
I LOVE MY M17X..... even alongside the M17x the M15x is still a great system too, with the exception of the RGB LED I would likely have stayed with it.
The delays and the flickering are truly Dell issues... Crossfire is just one of those things. Of course, I own a Toyota and I don't worry about stuck accelerators either because I accept that there are points sometimes far off the curve in the manufacturing process; someone has to get the lemon, but the key is to have a well-founded vendor to take care of it
-
Hmmm end of march.....(I'm screaming in my head hate thoughts)...... So I guess I have to cancel and order in 3 months when I finally settle down at my new base in the desert and wait forever again but this time bored tired and paranoid awsome I was hoping for a little bit of distraction .... So siked.
-
i want to know the conspiracy going on at dell! 1 month since i ordered 3 weeks they have been telling me the screens been backordered how often do they get shipments once a month? for a company who sells to 32 countrys i find weekly shipments more likly but that still dosent explain a 1 month delay and constantly getting my order pushed back week after week and my rep keep telling me hes trying to get answers from the manufacterr but there not responding. RAnt rant rant.... I need a smoke. This is just stupid for such a larg company not beign able to fullfill there orders in a timely manner is ridiculous. People depend on these guys for real world work and such. Hell iv checked the competition and they do not compare to the value of this system at the price i got it at im locked in and i have no other alternative. (end pointless greaving....
)
-
I am starting to wonder if they build these in lots....Say they need to have 200 orders to run them etc...Maybe its only a special few that actually do the assembly or something? I can't believe they can't get screens or hard drives in a moments notice in this day and age. I do know they are built in malaysia as per my rep who also claims they cannot get ahold of the manufacturing facility either ( not responding to e-mail). Who knows....grasping at straws and really hoping it gets here by my eta of 3/17 at least! There is no way I am going to wait until april, I will just get the new asus which is looking better and better!! LOL Must.....resist.....must...lol
-
Don't do it! Stay the course!!
-
Well I just got off the phone with my rep and was told they were waiting on a part (apparently the network card/wifi card?) which is due on the 5th and my order will progress from that day onward.
Gotta love DELL's order management system (if they even have one). -
My Rep said RGB and it wouldn't be in for another 3 weeks...
-
So is that supposed to mean you wouldn't receive it until April?
-
Yup. For me at least.
-
Wow that's pretty messed up. My ETA is 3/17 and if i get delayed I'm canceling and will never order a Dell again. I also had an sxps ordered and finally after a month and a half later it just got shipped today. That will make it over 2 months for you right?
Edit: I just checked dell's us website and my current config has a prelim ship date of 3/22...not sure if you get the same on your country's website, but just yesterday it was at 3/29. Very confusing....as usual....
Edit 2: I just realized there is no 1333 memory listed though -
guess my 3/3 is not going to happen.. damn.
-
I can't remember who, but someone earlier posted that they had a ETA of 3/3 with an order date of 2/14, the same as mine, it makes no sense why he got his so quickly, especially considering he had the blu ray drive, and yet you still haven't received yours.
Do you have NBD shipping? Have you hit boxing? -
Two months and counting. Who knows what other parts they're being back ordered on. I talked to the Consumer Sales Manager and was forward to some type of Dell team, IF i don't get compensation cause of this delay. I will be canceling...
-
Yes to NBD, no to boxing
-
Well that's one "plus" to having a 3.19 EDD - i don't have to worry about being pushed out....
until 3/17 that is
-
it is because they shipped him with a crap screen and instead of asking for the RGB screen which will take another 2 months to get to him, he just chose to have freebies like another HD, mouse and some other goodies. anyone's got a manager rep's phone or email in the US that i can talk to when my 4th date of 3/5 is not met so i can complain to get a gpu upgrade? thank you.
-
How can you tell other than looking at the proc and video card that what they are sending is an R1 or r2?
I'm on the replacement camp, my 1730 died a month ago and my order was placed on the 4th of february...not having a laptop is....painful... -
CPUID, GPUZ
google
on the bottom of the laptop: next to the service tag, mine says M17x R2 and yours will probably says M17x -
This is a third party order and all parts seem to be in stock and you should receive this order on 3/8...lol I will put a resolutions expert on this to make sure you get this on the EDD...lol again.. Someone will contact you within 24 Hrs..lol yet again.
I told him do not contact my original rep because he is full of bad information.
This is what an epp rep just told me.
More horse chips from Dell. Lets update your system DELL, because the info you give your reps is inaccurate.
AwHw -
Is there a thread on the Dell site we can all post on and explode it?
-
The cpu is the best way core i"x" series r2 c2duo or quad core r1
-
WOW I have no words right now for how happy I am! I just hit boxing!!
-
I don't know for certain, but my impression after all the discussions with the reps is that Dell takes the orders, and then submits them to the factory once there is a certain number, say 2500 for instance, possibly with minimum counts for certain items. The factory accepts the order then builds them and ships them off. Odd parts are probably kept in short supply as well, so a delay with a more expensive part seems likely... I still say part of what we are seeing is delays due to orders not being honored faithfully by Asian contractors who likely supply their own first regardless of deals, a greater than expected demand of certain items (Dell misreading the market) and now possibly a general hold on fulfilling orders until the flashing Crossfire issue is resolved.

I don't believe i am actually writing that but
I AM IN BOXINGLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Ha that's 2 of us today already, Dell must have got some parts in over the weekend. I was sitting in a library when I checked the order status, I could barely resist the urge to jump up screaming
