Lol, I just went into Production on Sunday, After a month and i have another 5 weeks of waiting before i even see my Laptop. So yeah i'll be waiting a while.

So, have there been any successful bluray burner home installs yet? anyone know the product number? That's the one drawback from order the week I did... no bluray option

 

According to Dell UK the maximum build time in the UK is 7 days and that is from the Netherlands to the UK, cannot see that being completely true but for Dell to experdit with Alienware there seems to be a communication issue as my took at least 2 weeks for them to reply?

 

I take it the SSD is the problem now...?

this is the tricky part that no one has explained.

STEP 2: LISTEN, there two different answering machines you can get! Both will get you to where you need to go, but they both require a different # to be hit!

A: If you hear music for a split second when the call is picked up HIT #3
B: If you don't hear music HIT #4 (even though it says hit 3 for tracking, trust me)

STEP 3: HIT #2

Guy help me out here a little. When I ordered Dell contacted my credit card company and kind of reserved the money for itself ( not sure how it's called ). As far as I understood they were supposed to hold on to that "reserve" until they ship the laptop at which point they are supposed to actually charge the card. Is it the same in the states ?
The thing is they released this hold after a week (that was three weeks ago), I know that because I was afraid of problems with international transaction and I asked a rep over at my visa company to follow my case so she called and said that Dell released the hold.
Now I am a little worried that there will be issues when they will charge the card.
So my question after this messy explanation is, does Dell reserve the money with us cards too? And if so, do they hold on to that reservation for the whole time of the build?

 

Usually they will put an initial charge hold to make sure the card is legit and the charge wont actually be posted until it has been shipped.

However if the shipment has been delayed, in my experience, the hold charge disappears and and you get charged right around the time of shipping

 

mine got bumped up to the 17th...odd

 

on my m11x preorder (which i canceled) the money was held for about a week and then the hold was taken off. I think they just do an initial hold to see if you have the funds, then they do a complete charge once its about to ship.

Ya - they did the same thing to my CCard but they actually 'reserved' the FULL amount of the laptop - not just the $200 difference from what I am supposed to pay with the Dell preferred financing

According to my CC company it doesnt actually get charged - but they said it was still hanging out there

I know how you feel, i have an EDD of 3/17. But I just saw that some people hit boxing so I think there is a slight chance we might hit boxing by the end of the week. Then again I'm really optimistic about this stuff. When I look at the US website I only see that 1333 memory is missing, and I recall when I ordered my Rep told me that it was on back order. But considering other reps have basically listed every other part, it's hard to tell.

 

Anyone know how much better the Intel N 6300 wireless card is than the standard Dell non upgraded version?

Is this something that can be purchased from dell and upgraded?

 

6300 is 3xMIMO, which supports up to 450Mbps. I believe the Dell card is 1x (though specs are hard to find), only supporting 150Mbps. You have to have a multiband WAP to actually take advantage, but it helps future-proof your system a little more.

You should be able to buy the intel card aftermarket pretty easily--it's a standard half-mini card. A quick search shows them selling for about $35.

They put it as an authorization that falls off. This is just to make sure your account exists and you have the money to make the purchase. On the day it ships, the charge in that amount will go through. If you spend that money, you're going to be overdrawn and charged fees from your bank.

 

I also believe the 3 antennas with the 6300 helps with the signal too. I have not had one dropoff with it on my wireless network whereas with other cards I always had some using the same network in my home.

 

Im canceling my order, I just spoke to the consumer Sales Manager and she told me that 'Dell does not have a Compensation Policy' So i will not be compensated for there massive delay.

Pathetic.

 

Well I just checked the phone line and it looks like I have hit boxing stage. I wonder how long it takes to box up the unit. Fingers are crossed for a Friday delivery and a happy weekend.

If all goes well I will be playing some Battlefield Bad Company 2 this weekend in style.

Good question. I'm assuming that they are too lazy to have a bunch of different wiring harnesses and just put in the one with 3 leads anyway. I know a lot of dells we've ordered at work without wireless cards still have the antenna cables in them.

Anybody out there have the Dell card and willing to look if there are 2 antenna leads vs. 3?

Boxing = 3 days (actually boxing + flying it to US). Then however long the carrier takes to get from TN to your place.

Didn't see it listed at either place. I just googled "intel 6300 shopping" and several hits came up. Pick one that seems reputable, I guess.

 

I was told today that the 128gb SSD is on backorder and should arrive at the manufacturing planet my computer is at on Tuesday. Paul told me he'd be calling me back to let me know how that goes.
