it would def. be nice to know. I doubt many people would be buying the 6300 from dell if they knew they were getting all three antennas no matter what. you could get it for cheaper from somewhere else and changing the card is pretty straightforward. however, if getting the dell wireless card limits you to two antennas behind your lcd panel, well, most people should probably go with the intel 6300 option then.
but you're right, its unlikely they'd bother with such complications. so you're thinking people who get the dell wireless card have an extra antenna not connected to anything under the palm rest?

Oh yeah, I got this email from blackhawk on Feb 25th. Its a reply to me asking them when the M17x R-2 Bios update that resolves flickering will be released.
"Hello,
I talked to the technical contact and this is what I got.
“There is a prototype and it is being tested now. No definite ETA but they are saying at least a week.”
As you know we are working hard to get this update out ASAP. When it is available I will let you know.
Thanks,
Logan - Team Blackhawk" -
damn it, ssd now too? i hate this crap. and my rep also told me the same thing, no details on compensation till order is shipped. so it could all lead to nothing.
-
Load of rubbish, IMHO.
-
it's usually got a little plastic tube covering the connector and is just laying in there.
-
To Ikuto and Stargazer, keep pushing for something. I was told the exact same thing as you, but my manager added that since I was a good customer blah blah blah he could give me a coupon when shipped. I recommend mentioning this forum and that many others have been compensated. If you have owned a Dell before mention how you have been a good customer for years and you don't deserve to be treated like this. Explain to them how the delay has affected you also. Through the whole process remain calm and firm, yelling is an instant rejection. Try to do it tomorrow and let me know how it went. Also make sure to have them email whatever they offer to you, so that you have it on record.
-
I went from my rep to the Consumer Sales manager. Her excuse was "We don't have a compensation policy" What is that? I was nice told her about how long and disappointing it was and yet she didn't seem to care. I then returned to my Reps Manager, asking for assistance, and he seemed to have a better idea on how to get a little. So I'll see what he says.
-
My original order date was 2/4 and then I canceled and new order date was 2/11. In this case it is good to be hated.. We will see what happens Friday.
-
I know we can't post anything in the thread, but if you want I could pm you the extension to my customer care manager. Maybe you could get more outta him?
-
Hey Deltawing, I had the same problem with my first 3 customer "care" reps. My last one, promised to return every email and phone call, and lived up to that promise. Was very responsive, and I told her as much in several of our conversations. So if the ones you haven't aren't responding, then it might be worth calling and complaining until you get someone who will be more responsive. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck
-
ME: "whats holding up my order?"ReP: " sir i have contacted the manufacturing company and they will get back with me tomorrow" ME:"uhh you told me this 2 weeks ago and never answerd me then?" ReP: "uh uh uh sir were sorry for the delay and as we discussed you will be compensated when the order ships." ME: "So your going to get that answer too tho right? Or am i going to have to wait for you to give me this BS excuse again 2 weeks from now?" ReP:"uh mmm well sir were doing every thing we can and we will compensate you for your wait have a nice day sir blah blah blah giving me the run around blah blah blah." ME: "............. ok ya you too buddy"
Ahh good old customer support
was i too harsh?
-
please do, it'll be greatly appreciated.
OMG. that is exactly what my rep tells me delta. word for word almost, with the blah blah blahs as well.
i will be calling dell customer support though and tell them about the month i've been waiting and no email communication i've been getting from the rep and all the complaints i have. -
Ehhh to be honest the M17x did not live up to my expectation, i actually perfer the g73 over this laptop. The front design is sharp which means your forearms isn't really sitting on a comforable position. Infact i have red lines from using the computer now lol.
Also the touchpad is SO laggy. no kidding.
The Alienware FX center is confusing and too complex, the laptop is so bulky and heavy which makes me wonder how i am ever going to take this anywhere lol.
Anyways If dell is reading this, DUDE I CANCELLED MY M17x Why is it on my door step? can you like take it away or something and refund my 4 grand? Gosh i don't want to call you guys up again and do a 4 hour wait... gona sent them a e-mail i guess. -
Sent.

To each his own GL with the G73 i like the way it looks too but shhh
-
Plastic, ew.
-
Wow you clearly did not understand that this is a desktop replacement, not a laptop in the sense that you use it on your lap. It is intended to be used on a flat surface, most likely with a mouse. Computers like this can be transported more easily than a desktop, but that is about it for mobility. Also the AlienFX is not really a necessary component for gaming, except maybe the lighted keyboard, but even so I have not heard of anyone complaining about the complexity of it.
As for the touchpad, I have owned a Dell Inspiron and now have an Eee Pc netbook, both combined don't add up to the price of the m17x and both have decent touchpads. In fact I have never seen a touchpad so laggy it was unusable. Maybe that is something you should call tech support about? -
Phew, my M17x got delivered today...best computer I've ever used, and to those still waiting, IMO it is well worth the wait so just hang in there
-
ill eat your face red you lucky son!
-
thank you. i'll send an email regarding the compensation to my order.
-
I gotta say it's better to call than email. With email it's all too easy for the rep to just say no, but when he/she is on the phone they will be more inclined to agree, just to get you off the phone really, but hey it works out for us.
-
Congrats man! Does yours flicker?
-
mine flickers when i had dual graphics cards on, it was running crysis at about 40ish and sometimes hitting 50. But i think i turned off dual ATI cards and flickering stopped, the FPS sits at 20ish.
-
Still no Info. on my end.
-
Damn, was hoping for flicker free machine when it arrives.
Guess i am going to have to wait for the bios fix like everybody else. -
does worry me too much though, i still have my g73 and my desktop to play with =) The M17x is going to my paper weight till i can find a buyer for it... lol
On a side note, the M17x is indeed a very POWERFUL machine, while running crysis my benchmark with Fraps sits at
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
5272 143754 18 78 36.674
as a comparison the G73jh mins is 12, Max is 36 and Avg is 27
still playable and you won't notice much difference but the numbers is on alienware side. -
Cheers,
No I haven't noticed any flickering yet (fingers crossed)! But maybe it's because I don't have the 920XM as well? -
I am sure you'll find a warm home for it.. when i think about it, why not just return it ?
People with 820qm are experiencing flickering as well, not everybody though. -
-
So, what comes after BOXING stage ? are there any more stages ? or is it just shipped after that ?
Got an email from my rep :
"Greetings!!
Hope you are having a great day.
I am glad to inform you that the order is in the final stages of build and is estimated to ship out in 2 to 3 days. Once the order is invoiced I will also place an order for the Mouse.
Eagerly waiting for the order to be delivered shipped."
Looks like boxing is 2-3 days, so my 3/3 edd is not going to happen, but i am not complaining
-
not sure how good your courier partner is in american, But the dell courier here got my laptop at 9th of feb. today is the 2nd of march and i got my laptop. Almost a month of wait LOL.
-
Congrats on finally getting there!
-
At least someone is.
Hey if your not gonna give your M17x back to Dell can i buy some parts off you?
-
haha if i do that i doubt dell would take it back. Knowing dell even after i notfied them, it will take them 2 weeks to pick up my laptop. I will see.
-
Hopefully I just got lucky then
?
-
As expected, got the cancellation email and a new EDD of yet another week delay. Now March 10th. /sigh
-
ahhhhhhhhhhhh another MONTH (started in JAN)
So - if the rumors are true - how many of us are WAITING now for SSD drives?
I'm in - i saw a couple above also in this group... -
Mine has the 256 SSD i hope its just the 128 thats delayed
-
Well in australian site they removed both 128 and 256 SSD option so it might be a indication SSD r delayed.Stupifyed said: ↑Mine has the 256 SSD i hope its just the 128 thats delayedClick to expand...

Delta I feel your pain. Next time I speak with the rep that authorized the mamba for me I will ask if he's ok with me passing on his details to you. Maybe he can help you too. -
I decided to get the i7 920XM over the SSD. I tried talking to Dell and they couldn't tell me what brand SSD they use. So I just decided to would buy my own. No clue what's holding mine up.Mr Neutron said: ↑ahhhhhhhhhhhh another MONTH (started in JAN)

looks like my BBB complaint went through, just got a call from them saying they are well into this and will be given me email updates about their progress. Lets hope their service is better than dell's. And just before that call my dell rep called to tell me that my 3/5 is still on schedule even though i'm still in production... lets see who is faster.
-
Amazing how many people complain about dells service (like the above poster) yet they want the product dell delivers so bad. If you dells service is this bad BEFORE they have your money, can you imagine what it would be like after they have your money? I dont get it? If I was that pissed at a company I sure as hell wouldn't be spending a few grand with them. I fully expect my order to be filled, and if its delayed I can deal with it. If I want the product that bad I can wait a bit, its only a laptop.
List everyone M17x-R2 ETA
