Um, to some of us it's more than "only a laptop" which is why we put up with Dell's nonsense but that doesn't mean we can't complain. If you can't grasp that then there's little point to even posting here, or questioning why someone wants an Alienware specifically. You can have your ratty Mustang Cobra (no offense to Cobra owners), we prefer a Ferarri, bugs, wait and all![]()

I am waiting cause I want the alienware. And how can it be more than "only a laptop". Dude its a laptop. Its not life or death. I understand that everyone wants it now! Hell I do, but I will wait paitently till I get it. Its not like Dell isn't doing all they can. They don't want customers canceling, but if there are supply limitations what are they going to do about it? Shouldn't we file complaints against the screen makers, or the SSD makers? It's not Dells fault they can't produce them fast enough.
-
It's more than a laptop because that's the one we want, so it is not "a laptop" for us, it is "the laptop" for us. Sure it's not life or death, but it's a toy we take seriously. I consider a wait for more than a month myself to be out of line; sure it's arbitrary, but in today's world that's a long time. The issue is that if Dell can't deliver a product I have wanted to buy from them (which they are VERY glad to have you do), but they hold up my buying by delays, that is a real problem and deserving of criticism. It's not fair to the consumer to tie up their buying decisions by selling something, then maintaining the order for a ridiculous length of time forcing the consumer to sweat their buying decision; this is just bad business.
-
Actually the beef most of us have with Dell is the way they handled this whole process. I don't mind waiting for my laptop but I want to know up front that I am going to wait. Dell knew that some parts are missing but never bothered to let us know and instead prefered to keep pushing our Edd week in and week out. Some people here are waiting for more than seven weeks for the thing and I am sure that if they were told up front to expect delays you would not see any complaints here. Dell prefered to keep us in the dark, lie to us and disregard us. This is why the previous poster and some more here contacted BBB and this is why the general tone of this thread is of desperation.
-
is it not dell's fault for giving us order dates and delaying them 4-5 times? if you can't deliver something on time, don't give empty promises. and at least give the customers correct information, not lie to them time and time again. Unless you like being lied to every time you ask them what's going on and you get a different answer each time. I do think dell is doing all they can, but hey, we are the customers, we gave them the money to get the order to us, and if its not here, do we not have the right to complain? Not all of us will sit patiently until our laptop finally arrives after 2 months of this crap. Lets rephrase, if you are sitting in a chinese food restaurant and they tell you that the food will be out in 10 minutes, but instead they come out to you in 30 minutes later. Are you gonna just sit there and be happy that it is finally here? It's "ONLY A MEAL" after all. you can starve a bit anyways right? The point is not "oh i can wait because i'm patient "The point is "why do you HAVE TO?" especially after they given you a promise, and on the business side of things, a promise/contract to meet deadlines are taken very seriously. is it not?
-
I know for me personally, it was not so much the delays, but how they were handled. Communication is key regardless of the product being purchased. A number of us waited 3 weeks only to have our orders canceled by DELL, due to a part sku being incorrectly placed on the order. This is something they should have been able to address internally and quickly, instead of canceling the order and placing all those early orders to the back of the line. Patience is a virtue, but there is a line between being patient, and being strung along..which I think is what a number of folks are upset about. If the order is delayed 5 weeks due to part XXXXX fine, but don't continually state "we are confident that your order will be delivered on or before this date" only to push it back 3 or 4 times. Just my 2 cents...

@stargazer Do you understand how big companies work? They keep a low stock of the very expensive items (aka, high end alienwares). I am sure you could get a dell cheapo laptop out to you in a very quick time. But in for accounting purposes and basic profit purposes, (as well as supply issues, we all know high end gear takes longer to produce, look at AT 5870's when they came out) they can't keep that all in stock.
So if the supplier can't provide them with enough to fill demand, it sure as hell isn't dells fault. I would believe Dell would love a 1 day turn around on these things. They aren't happy that people are filing BBB complaints, or calling asking for free shiz. They would much rather take your money and you have your laptop.
But the delays are just a product of more demand than supply and until that equals out there isn't anything Dell can do about it.
-
So you would rather have an EDD 7 weeks out, than have it 2 weeks out and pushed back? Understandable. I think a 7 week EDD might stop some people from ordering, which would help this whole supply issue in the first place
And the auto canceling thing is somewhat bogus. I had mine canceled cause DFS is stupid. The definitely need a better way to handle order issues than to cancel your oder. -
No actually, i don't know how big companies work. and why do i have to? i gave them 3k for them to give me a laptop, do i have to know about accounting, business and all the other stuff before i order my laptop? all i care about right now is getting my laptop, like most of us here. Who the hell wants to give dell 3k then turn around to feel bad for dell? Who feels bad for us that we're waiting 1-2 months for our orders? I'm sure dell being such a big company wouldn't give a crap. I just want my laptop to be delivered in a reasonable amount of time, thats not a hard thing to do for a big company right? ...
-
You haven't given Dell any money man. Until they ship you aren't charged. When you get your laptop you will be charged.
Right now they are doing everything they can in hopes that they GET YOUR money, so they are dealing will all these mean calls and what not without even having a dime from you. You could cancel and all that stress you gave them would just be lost money/time for them. -
Semantics... The point is I want them to take my money and to exchange it for a product in a timely manner -
It's not semantics, there is a major difference between taking your money and giving you no product, and not taking your money till they can provide a product
And yes, we all want it in a timely manner. Apparently, some more than others. -
Barrok, you've merely stepped in it on this one, people having orders delayed more than three times because of parts issues shows Dell isn't handling their orders right, you simply can't defend that even with the point about when the money is debited.
Frankly, unless I am building my own machine, I PAY Dell to worry about getting parts and deliver a system in a timely manner. They may not have debited your credit card, but the flip on this is that they have engaged you in a buying decision with the understanding that a product is to be had in a reasonable time and constantly changing order dates almost to the day the product is said to arrive and on top not being honest or clear about why or when to expect fulfillment is just major weak sauce.
Dell is lucky people like the product so much or they would have lost some good sales, and even they recognize it which is why they are ponying up in some cases. -
Got a call from my rep. just now. They are having parts shortages and (don't hate me) they expedited my exchange and used the parts they had on hand to get it out the door today. So I should have the new system in a few days.
-
Are you sure you're not affiliated with them
-
hehe that is why we are in this problem in the first place. Too many people like the product and demand is greater than supply. Simple economics
-
It's ok, Alienware captured his system, it's only fair they should give extra priority to his order. Joker I know you plan to buy the 5870s from rjtech next week, but why didn't you just wait another week to see if Dell will have the cards available as an upgrade?
-
If I was a owner of a big company I would of setup for the Frist big Sell of a item. Have Stock before Selling. So big Corps like Best buy and other Stores would have there Shippment on time aswell as the Consumers.
Order on 1/19/2010 reorder due to faulty or wrong hardware on 2/1/2010 and still on the build stage.
Show Lack of Skills of a Big company. -
I hate you joker...
-
He came with a broken system.
-
Got a call from my "rep" today -after 2 emails from me looking for an update
I've decided these customer reps are just noise - "waiting to hear back from the manufacturer" is what she said... which she's told me 5 times now... good internal communication over there.
Allegedly 15days until ship.... -
Order status is broken..Don't know why..Guess i'll have to wait and try again. :/
-
You get the same answer when you call and ask. Systems are down. Mybe this is a good thing and they are updating the info.
-

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Just to make you guys feel better, I got my return confirmation to send it back to Dell on sunday. The thing is, they already picked up my Laptop last week tuesday and already at the Dell facility today.lol Their system lag about 5 days... so you guys might get your system sooner.

now i am going to tell you a story of another manufacture called Asus.
Asus was playing 1066mhz 8 gigs Ram in thier G73 which i also ordered.
After placing order with my local shop i got the laptop in 1 day.
After Placing the order with Dell i got my computer in one month. Fair enough you say there is a shortage of parts.
Well Asus was also short on parts, ( the ram stick at ran out)
So what did Asus do?
They say, We want our customers more, So what if we make a smaller profit.
They gone and slapped in 8 gigs of 1333 mhz ram for me... for FREE! thats right FREE. TY asus. I love you. -
and so did alot of people including me haha. But my flickering isnt that bad, just a few trees i can live with it until the Bois come out... Unless i sold the laptop beforehand.
Guys the flickering really isnt that bad, buy my laptop pls
-
Look, I'm not one to defend Dell's order system (it sucks and we all know it), but your anecdote doesn't make any sense. What should Dell do if the RGB LED screen has a shortage? Stick a regular WLED screen in there instead? Same for an SSD shortage, what should they put in there instead? A 1TB regular drive?
I know when my order was delayed, I received a significant discount for my trouble. Others have received free processor upgrades, free mice, free RAM, etc. How is that any different from what Asus did for you? -
Wow, that really sucks. Sorry to hear it.
-
Since I can not call from Iraq my wife is going to give them hell tomarrow, and believe me you dont want that kind of Hell. I feel bad for that Rep. Bad Indeed.
-
Jesus not a wifes wrath! Tomorrow at dell someone will kill themself...
Ill shed one tear for them.
-
Asus builds the machines, then ships them out. Then you buy from that available stock. Dell doesn't have the machines built, but they do that when they get orders. Completely different man. Grats Asus does that. How about all those people who have R1's who got ATI cards? Sounds similiar to me.
-
I always reply to e-mail and call...
I would be extremely pissed off as wel -
they email then they call i guess the email's BS and the calls for real? Good thing ive been answering my phone
sorry to hear that man
-
That's rediculous. I think their whole cancelation thing is bogus and needs rework.
-
I just hit boxing...which again doesn't make sense because I ordered on 2/14. Then again when I ordered on 2/2 I received my first one on 2/10 and that was in bad condition, almost as if someone had returned it and dell changed the nameplate and sent it straight to me. I have a feeling mine will include recycled parts, but I could care less as long as they work.
-
YAY for everyone who placed an order after me to get theres first! Congratz!
I must just have really bad karma/luck
-
I could understand if this was the first time i got the email but this was the 4th time and emailing them back worked for the other 3 so they simply F'ed up on this one.
-
use it to your advantage when ordering again! DESTroy that REP~
-
Make sure your wife stresses the fact that you're deployed right now, and make them feel like crap for doing this to someone who is serving their country.
-
I have a story;
No one likes a plastic Laptop.
The end. -
LOL, that is probably the only thing making me not get an ASUS right now. I love ASUS mobos... but I am not going to spend 3.5k on a plastic laptop.
-
its only 1.5k
-
What really rubs this in is the fact that if you go spec the same system I ordered today it will be almost 10% cheaper yet they won't even offer me a free t-shirt as compensation for the delays.
-
LOL and the best part is this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5947403&postcount=2
