Not the way I customized it out! You can customize one just like an m17x on the xoticpc site. I specced one out to almost the exact same specs as the m17x I am ordering. It didn't have the dual video cards though. But I did spec it out with an SSD and a 5870.
-
Their pricing for procs is retarded though (on xotic) its like they dont give you a discount for the i720 they are taking out.
-
Yea man I spoke to 1 rep and 1 manager today.. I really think they are just not given the proper info on orders...The standard answer is I'll send in a request to see when it will ship and get back to you in 24 hrs. I have heard that about 5 times.
With that said I do understand shortage of parts or massive amounts of orders but come on improve that multi-billion dollar system you have there Dell. If someone orders 10 days after me and gets theirs before alot of other people something is just wrong with the system and communication.
I think they put me on I hate when that guy calls list

Hey, new here. Decided to join because it seems like the forum members here are quite active. I ordered my M17x yesterday. Got the carrying case today (lmao, I was all excited thinking it was my M17x). Checked dell.com and it says my order status is in "production".
I decided to go against the xotic, asus, and other cheaper laptops because after all was said and done, I prefered the Alienware style (casing, lighting, etc).
I currently have an Asus G50vt-x5 and it's ok. It only cost $750 so I didn't expect much out of it. Plays games pretty well, but I think this laptop is also suffering from the Alienware M17x R1 bug. I read a forum post here that nvidia admitted the bug was their fault. All in all, if you are a "Gaming laptop is a gaming laptop" type of person, then the Asus series of gaming laptops are a great choice. Through life experience, I am a firm believer of "you get what you pay for" when trying to cut back and save as much money as possible on anything.
Back on topic, sales rep said "IN TWO DAYS YOU'LL HAVE YOUR LAPTOP!!" to which I responded with an equally fake enthusiasm "WOW ALRIGHT!!". After calling dell the same evening, I was told I would get my M17x before March 30th *sigh*.
Well here's to hoping I get my M17x this week!!!
I'm looking forward to sharing thoughts here on Notebook Review.com.
Later! -
Welcome to the forum!
-
Welcome aboard from one noob to another...
I am not sure if this place is comforting me or making me more anxious since ordering my M17x. But I do know one thing I can't stop visiting this site.
Lotsa good reads & informed individuals.
enjoy! -
dibsodhvisdhv AWESOME. I finally got a ETA.

-
@deltaone45
So you originally ordered on 2/4 and have been delayed now 5 times, and you're still not in production? -
yep thats this guy!
-
That's just not right....
-
whow what wait silly me not reading
i read still in production not not in production ive been in build since 2/5
-
Welcome! This forum and the information contained within is fantastic.
Great group of people!
-
welcome to the world of waiting for your laptop to arrive. ^^
i'm extremely sad to inform you guys that i am still in production.
looks like its not going to make the 3/5 deadline
I think i'll wait till the 8th to see the news about 5870s and decide if i should cancel or not. -
I give up!! I got my second voice message << we apologize for the delay we'll try our best to ship it as soon it's possible>> I've ordered the damn thing the second of February
I hope I'll get it by Easter
-
Trust me i doubt i will get it by the 12th. Im in Production ATM, and it takes around a good odd 9 days to build and that only gives it 3 days to ship and get here.. So i really doubt i'll get it by the 12th.
-
Delivered!!
OMG! Its beautiful!!
Like others have said, it is SO worth it!! -
Congrats...welcome to the OTHER club (the club of those who actually received theirs vs the club of the folks still being delayed)
-
we ordered on the same date :/
-
I dont understand this at all, people who ordered 12 days after me are getting it before i do. ridiculous. the ANGER
-
I know right.
The anger.
THE RAGE.
HULK SMASH. -
i really do hope they give me a GPU upgrade for all this wait time though. cause i dont really need a mouse or any of that stuff, i already have those ready. if all this waiting amounts to nothing. then i'd be smashing it and asking for a exchange. ^^. *insert evil laugh* harhar.
-
Are you planning on installing the gpu yourself? I'm pretty sure even if they wanted to give you the upgrade they can't because they are limited by the systems ability to change the order, and the last thing you would want is to cancel and reorder. See if you can get a rebate or free mouse as some people have.
-
yeah, i'm aware of that, thats why i plan to install the gpu myself. as long as they send me everything. ^^ that is what they said though, that they would only be able to deal with my compensation after the order ships, but after it ships i no longer have something to hold against them. -.-
-
Try and get them to send you a blu ray drive too
-
i know the 4870 is about $200, how much is the bluray drive? just in case i can't get the 4870 from them i can at least get something useful.
-
The upgrade to the read drive is 150, read/write is 300.
I got a free upgrade to the write because of issues I had with my first order -
I kow how you feel, i had to deal with it in janurary when i first ordered. People ordering a week after me recieved theirs, then i ended up wating a whole month before i hit boxing.
-
Crazy waiting on my laptop? I was crazy waiting on my laptop once! They put me in a white room and I ran around like a mad man untill the day I died. So they put me in a box in the ground with a red rose in my hands. The rose kept tickleing my nose! IT DROVE ME CRAZY waiting on my laptop! ... -
I am going to ask for a Blue ray. With all the issues I had with the other 2 systems and no laptop for 10 Months time meaning sending the system for Repairs, Charge back and reordering and charge back and Reorder. Waiting for the R2 and Cancel I did not ask for. It been almost a year.
-
Congrats!
Lesse order ONE day ahead of me, get delivery 3 weeks ahead of me....
yaaaaaaaaa...... -
stargazer, if it makes any difference, my 1730 broke and a replacement was ordered on the 2/4. I called today and my new EDD is 3/16....
I've already reported them to the BBB
-
ROFLMAO!!!
-
guys, did anybody that hit boxing 2 days ago got shipping confirmation ?
-
If you keep calling....They keep delaying...Well thats what it seems like...
-
I was just wondering that myself... I'm still in the boxing stage.
-
Still Build here Ordered 2/4
The rubbery asus g73 should be available 3/4 If I find one in stock I may order it -
I think regular amount of boxing time is 3-5 days, so as long as it ships by this Friday I will be happy. I am fairly confident they will make that cutoff, but you never know.
-
I'm not sure in the long run that's a sustainable business practice ... BUT.... Dell is not leveraging their size well here it seems. This is why I think the Asian manufacturers play favorites with their own companies first, you do more of these maneuvers with less cost impact if you are getting your parts in quick and timely basis.
-
Today is day three of boxing! If my edd is 5th, it's gotta do something soon!
-
Nope still waiting....today is 3rd day of boxing
-
I highly doubt that dell has less leverage than Asus. You have to remember how huge of a corporation Dell is. Their revenue for 2009 was 61 billion vs Asus's 21.2. You do not play any sort of favoritism with a company the size of Dell since they are generally your biggest buyer. Every component that goes into their systems can easily be replaced with another manufacturer.
Asus makes their own ram and they probably had extra stock of 1333 laying around while short on 1066. As a business decision it makes total sense to get rid of the parts you have extra of rather than have huge delays trying to make more of what you don't have.
I read an article linked below where even Dell states that sometimes when they have low stock of parts they will offer the upgraded part with a greatly reduced price just to bring back supply of the part they have low stock of.
How your Dell computer is really made -
I think at this point if Apple made a gaming laptop (BaAHAHHA) I would buy that right now. I needed a quality gaming desktop replacement a month ago. The ONLY ONLY ONLY thing I want from Dell is to tell me a delivery date and not to renege on it. I dont give a crap if its two months from the order date. As long as it stays the same.
It's just plain amateur hour over at Dell right now. They M17x-R1 was already popular they had no reason to believe the M17x-R2 would be any different. They should have at LEAST waiting another month before allowing people to buy this new revision while they stockpiled components.
PS: I am still in the Build stage. -
agreed. apple should be able to make an elegant gaming laptop that is super thin and super powerful. just called, still in production.
-
Then they would charge about $6000 for it
and then it would melt down on the first game you play.
List everyone M17x-R2 ETA
