no theory its gauranteedas long as they get it out the shipping facility on the 16th and pf course no random acts of god like the cargo plane crashing a train deraling or someone stealing it

delta, do not say such things, with your carma with dell something like that just might happen!
-
Yeah if we do in fact ship on the 16th, it should be here the 17th.
In theory
lol
But why the hell do some people go into boxing and then ship, while others go straight from "build stage" to shipping.
I am hoping that will be us, rather than a delay. -
I like that kind of thinking!
But the thoughts that go through the mind.... Will it cancel automaticlly???? Will it go straight to shipping???? Will it go to boxing stage???? Will it get delayed???? Evil little EDD... Makes me squirm impatiently. -
Agreed, I don't want it auto canceled. That sounds like a hella pain, even if you get a massive discount like delta.
-
Well that's where i am too. On 2/2 i had that conversation with a customer care rep - and he said everything was good. My order had already been canceled, he just had no idea.
Same thing happened on 2/8...
So I'm going to call again... and they'll tell me AGAIN that nothing should hold this order up.. yet it won't ship on time... as it hasn't left build yet... -
I am choosing not to believe you because I don't want the same thing to happen to me
But meh, I wish alienwares shipped out like the rest of Dells product line
-
Mine has finally arrived! At work atm, but hopefully I'll be setting it up later today. Will post back with my impressions when I get a chance.
Best of luck to those still waiting! -
People are still having problems. Ouch. I am finding I am missing some cds. The only one I got was resource DVD.
-
I finally shipped... ETA tomorrow by 3pm. praise the spaghetti monster.
-
DITTO!
Mine says shipped on the web and now I'm getting it tomorrow, 3/16, instead of 3/17!!! So frickin' excited!! Hopefully they have started picking up the pace on the orders -
The rep. called me today to let me know they still have parts shortages but at least he confirmed my discount for waiting. At this point I'll probably just cancel the exchange system and purchase a new one with the 5870s if it takes too long.
-
Why do you have a system exchange again? I thought your only issue was flickering and the bios they gave you fixed that.
-
Oh nice I got a phone call from my shipping company it should be here tomorrow
-
CPU runs too hot due to the heatsink not making 100% contact, tech damaged the palm rest and magnesium cover (there's dents in the seams suggesting he used a screw driver to pry it open), LCD cable sleeve has tears etc. The first two weeks of ownership were spent not using it at all thanks to flickering and after I got it back it had the aforementioned issues. They approved an exchange but it's taking forever. Since I have the right to cancel the exchange at any point if it's been taking an excessive amount of time (>3 weeks now), I may elect to do so if it doesn't ship by the 20th. I'll just return this one and get the 5870 version.
-
Dell must of forgot about me even tho I've emailed them twice blah
-
The techs' skills suk... This almost nullifies the advantage of having a nice warranty and next business day support... C'mon Dell, do your math!
My system isn't perfect out of the box. The secondary GPU+CF cable will be replaced and the screen has an ugly yellowish hue in the upper left corner.
If it wasn't the replacement system, I'd get a refund.
-
The funny thing is the guy that worked on mine was pretty careful since he was an AW tech at their offices. I guess he must have not realized there was damage done to the palm rest and mag cover when he released them. The CPU heatsink not making contact is just a production issue but these issues combined is enough to warrant an exchange. BTW my screen is nearly perfect, if it were calibrated it would be flawless. There's definitely something wrong with yours if you're seeing a yellow hue.
-
I gree with you and find the screen amazing. And the yellow hue is only visible on a purely white background, but still... If it gets too annoying it will be replaced.
-
When did you place your order? 02/01/10?
-
Has a Crossfire 5870 version been confirmed yet?
-
Exactly ? will it be possible ? i heard the 5870 is a much bigger card... Am i safe to buy or should i wait?? thx
-
You'll know the answer in a couple of weeks. 5870s should be out by then.
-
A lot of speculation from nbr members that claim to have inside info, but it was not confirmed.
-
going to get my m17xr2 tomorrow, what are the essential things that i have to do first? in regards to my system and/or ssd? or do i just plug and play right out of the box?
-
Well sales support is giving me a totally different story "there is no parts shortage, but due to the high demand of this laptop, it is an excellent bargain...blah blah"
At least now it is being "prioritized" so I should get it before the 30th now. NOT "ON OR BEFORE" but before. I had to repeat myself to confirm and make sure. Congrats to all that have theirs already. Enjoy it. -
check that your bios is A02, if not then upgrade.
Install 10.3 beta catalyst from here and you're good to go.
I asked you in another thread if you are installing the ssd or does it come from dell. if it comes from dell that's all you need. if you are installing yours then you'll need to install windows again...
wouldn't trust a word they say -
no, its from dell, and i do really hope they are smart enough to have the ssd as the primary boot drive rather than the 500gb... so i guess i'm gonna enjoy it right out of the box then because i heard A02 is standard now on the new units. and yeah, 10.30 beta. maybe i'll wait a bit till the thing comes out? ....
hm yeah. never trust a rep and prioritized is just another excuse to get you off the phone so they can go take a break and chat with their buddies, it doesn't mean anything. -
i'd install 10.3 anyway. they seem to be better and less problematic than the rest.
-
yessssssssssssss website showing shipped 3 days early and no delays. NBD so should get it soon
-
:/
The website hasn't changed since I placed my order and I'm supposed to get it in 2 days :/ -
Make a restore DVD. Especially before you blow the OS install.
-
same here
-
Aiite, well more action here as I get closer to the 30th.
-
For those who may be wondering how the 128GB SSD performs:
Compared to my RAID 0 array on my desktop:
Compared to my Corsair Survivor 32GB:
See this article for some of the fastest SSDs on the market.
Added my new Crucial Real SSD C300:
-
Another quick note for those that get the SSD, you may want to be careful you don't try to defrag the SSD.
I just bought O&O Defrag 12 to run and then found a heap of articles telling me you shouldn't defrag a SSD drive. Thankfully I can use the license on one of my other PCs.
More information on Windows 7 and SSDs:
http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/archive/2009/05/05/support-and-q-a-for-solid-state-drives-and.aspx.
And a few more notes. The SSD I received does support TRIM, but is NOT fast enough for Windows 7 to disable prefetch, etc.
I've since decided that I might have been better off with some more room (30GB of photos, plus music, plus games, plus work applications and the drive is already full) so I might buy a faster SSD and image the drive (assuming that works with SSDs) and then use this one for the "backup" drive or something. -
Two updates in a single week and my EDD has shifted left!!!... Dell loves me
...or is tired of my nagging
-
so my website hasn't changed.. shocking i know
So i just called, and the Bit** recording said BOXING!!
of course I knew right away something was wrong, I'm supposed to be in build forever
So i called back in and she told me the same damn thing!
I'll call and complain later, I want my system to cook a little longer in build!
-
hahahahaha - anyone else get one of these emails??
Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care on 02/26/2010 regarding Case number: 81-------8 for Dell order number: 14-----37 . At Dell we are committed to delivering the best Customer Experience to our customers. Valuable feedback regarding your experience with Dell Customer Care will help us improve our internal processes and provide better service to you.
Of course I want to slam them like an angry fist of the gods, and the order number listed is actually my 3rd order not my active 4th
Maybe I'll wait to see if my unit ships before i unload on them -
Yeah, I got that email after they actually properly resolved my problem AFTER FOUR HOURS ON THE PHONE
Needless to say I told them the truth.
Anyways, I thought I was in build stage because the Rep told me and the phone number told me I was in the build stage, but now I get an email saying it's ABOUT to go into the building stage....
After a couple of email exchanges it ends with the rep telling me he's trying to 'expedite' mine.
Jeez, here's a thought. All that extra money into expediting, instead you could HIRE SOME F***ING SMART CUSTOMER CARE and MAYBE turn your pis* poor business around. It just makes me so mad that such a WONDERFUL gaming laptop name had to be bought out by such a stupid company, burn in hell Dell. -
Just went into production.. Some progress at least! Hope I can beat that 04/26/2010 EDD.
-
just got mine this morning, unboxing as i am typing and taking pictures, too bad its not on my dslr though, its from a crappy sony cybershot. will upload by thursday hopefully
edit: man the power supply is freaking huge. lol also, does that beeping sound always come up when you start up? or is there a way to eliminate it?...
edit2: the touch pad is a little buggy, but i wouldn't say its a problem, just a little getting used to. -
I got a customer care email for my previous email too. I gave them a big fat zero!!!!
-
so the worst happened. they installed os on my 500 gb. now i have to do a new os install. damn it.
-
According to my rep, they are backordered on Radeon 4870s and...get this...
THE F***ING KEYBOARD
Stellar performance Dell, I applaud you. -
It will beep if on battery every time.. I havent found a way to disable that.. Too bad on the hard drive situation.. I always do fresh installs anyways...
-
how do i do that, since the os is on the 500gb, and not on my ssd. do i just pop the windows 64 cd in and boot it? but how do i clean my 500gb drive then.
-
So much hate lol. This is why you can't expect it to by your Edd or you turn into a raging anti Dell headcase
just hope you get it in a month from now
-
When you are choosing which hard drive to install the OS on you can format any drive you want, just format the 500gb and choose the SSD drive for the OS.
Windows 7 makes this very easy, just make sure you click on the Custom (Advanced Options) button when the screen comes up that shows all your available drives. -
Just hit boxing as well this morning.
List everyone M17x-R2 ETA
