no I know, I understood what you were saying -- I was just wondering where you got that information
-
when they release the m17x and the new skullcap design for the m15x, do you think the case issues will be resolved, or at least the screen wobble with the new top design or will it all be the same?
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Maybe they should be told to make sure such problems don't exist.
Like a checklist that they should incorporate - well no I suppose you can start demanding them to put things in it, but making the screen hinge a bit stronger should be included - because from the sound of the other threads their 200 point check isn't up to much..
Though I just saw this

It seemed logical that since the M17X being 17", means that anyone saying that "here's the chassic from so and so", unless it's for a 17" machine and looks like the M15X does (smooth, quare and nice looking) it's not where Alienware are getting there machines made.
Just my 2p
OB -
Do you guys think that the m17x is coming on April 29th?
The Alienware Network says that it will give information about it. Not sure if they will actually release the thing.
What do you think? -
-
i dont think so, i still think m17x is around june, however, black and skullcap for m15x is possible
-
Will what they could do is release the m17x early and then later incorporate montivina. I mean they did that with the processor with the m15x.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I doubt they would do that, Monty is a completely new motherboard, processor type (can have quad's) and different RAM... The power loading is different too...
I'd expect them to give the official release date, maybe not releaseing the beast but certainly the predicted date at least.
Just my 2p...

think of it like tuning a car. "integrating penryn" is like adding a new stereo. you just need to pull the old one out, maybe make some small changes, new wires, whatever, and put the new one in.
"updating to montevina" is like putting in a new engine. you have to redesign the whole front part of the car to make room for the new engine, you need to redesign the cooler, the exhausts, etc. you need to upgrade the transmission and suspension to handle the power. you need to update the motor control unit. you need bigger gas and oil tanks. etc etc etc.
all in all, adding montevina is soooo much more work than adding penryn. so chances are slim that the m15x will get montevina. -

I know this is probably redundant but, for anyone on the uk, looking to watch the broadcast tommorrow night, it's from 7:00 pm. 3:00PM EST (USA)

"I would expect them to reveal the actual release date, but I would be surprised if they were to release it on the same day."
I like the optimism, though really, expecting alienware to give a date!
C'mon this has been going on since last november... -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Recently there was a spate of people getting June/July as a predicted release date... This would make sense if they are waiting for Monty... It would be stupid to release a new beast that is out of date a few weeks after release, how many people would send them back... mind you they'd make 15% on thei restocking deal....
OB -
don't think i could wait that long for it tbh.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I guess i could but, only if Alienware were syaing it wil be out and made sure it was. At least we'd have something to look forward too, instead of waiting....and waiting..... oh, and some more waiting, cos that's so much fun... (",)
To be honest, i'd rather wait if it was going to be Monty, it's the best platform for Penryn's ans can take quad processors...

Hmm... they better say something important in this videocast thing tomorrow, I'l be seriously pissy if its video version of the cs. "Oh it'll be out really soon and its brilliant and.. "
it is getting kind of out of hand. If they don't give a fixed date sometime, that's soonish then I've no choice but to buy elsewhere,
Even if they announced tomorrow that they were releasing it, It'l still take a month or so before shipment - that's assuming there isn't a big demand which would push the waiting time up even more.
So even if it was to be released tomorrow (which it soooo won't) the earliest you'd possibly get it is in early/mid June, which means I'm effed.
I know thats a bit negative, but I'm pissed cause it's getting more and more likely that I won't be able to buy one. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Yeah i agree with you there, as the most they might just tell us what the final specs are going to be or something like that.
I can't get it until July due to saving the money so it's not too bad.
Why will you not be able to get it?
OB -
Well, today's the day for the Alienware Network's first episode to air.
It would be nice to see the m17x released today, it would make a lot of people happy. -
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
I'm doing a 3d cad course end of June, so I kind of wan't the system on my desk before It starts, I suppose I could use the desktops they have..
but like, if its not out by then, y'no you have to call it a day I'm not going to wait forever and I have seen some very, very attractive systems
- It's getting very hard not to click buy, ones like hypersonic or so on
Hopefully they'l give some real info later, to be honest if you knew the date it'd be out, you could save up for it or look forward to it, y'know but not knowing it makes it a decision
- Buy a brilliant system here and now and go mad with it. or wait indefinitely for a rumoured system - it's the not knowing that kills me. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Yup, same here. I'd be ok if i knew it was comming out in......weeks/months etc.
To be honest even if i had the means to buy a beast now, i'd probably wait to see what the M17X will be before buying but, i can see your dilemma... It's a tricky one.
I'd use the pc's provided and wait and see if the hype is justified, then decide...
Just my 2p

As I said before, if I were a betting man I would say they will give a release date today, but it won't actually come out today (that release date could be this Friday or it could be six months from now, that I can't say)
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Pitty there isn't a european version or european time for the broadcast later.
From whats written on their pages it looks like its going to be a then and there videocast interface - hope they stick it up on the site cause I won't be available at nine to watch it...
Though they do say the next one is in june - release???
Cause its very unlikely they'l release it now hence prob only give specs and so on -- what would they have to talk about in next one?? -
I wouldn't be worried if you can't watch it -- the main details will make it to the forums.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
It reads as if the articles about the M15 & 17X are not going to be in the video but, displayed on the page... Not sure how that's going to work but i'll watch it at 8pm Uk time when it's broadcasted from the USA.
OB -
Cool. 2 more hours to go.
-
m17x available for ordering today at 5PM EDT!
-
It's going to be matte black looks like.
-
Alufoliengriller Notebook Consultant
i hope m15x will also availible in matte black soon
-
Hooray for finally coming out! Too bad I'll be at work when the page to order goes up, but I'll be sure to check it out when I get home.
Personally I don't feel that not waiting for the m17x was a bad idea as SLi still isn't perfect. -
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Yep the black did look quite nice, though would it be quite as eye catching as
the silver? -
I don't think so, and we can only hope that it will come in a skullcap version, as it wasn't mentioned.
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Yeah I suppose, I'd really like the skullcap but looking at how thick it was with the ripley - could be too thick with the extra half inch (least I think its half an inch)
-
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
I agree, but then there are a few peeps saying the silver makes the plastic look cheap, don't know if I'd wan't that
-
Oh no... what a let down
I was really hoping they delay until June so i can get a montevina lappy with a great design... Oh well.
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
I know they didn't specifically say it was going to have montevina, but they didn't say it wouldn't, though I suppose why would they talk about penryns...
Hmm.. gotta hope, but if it doesn't, I think I'll be looking around again. -
yes, it'll definitely be interesting to find out if the m17x has montevina or not. the release date (e.g. today) speaks against it, but it would be stupid of AW to bring out a new lappie this short before montevina is released.
-
It will be even more interesting if soon after montevina, 9800m gpu's come... My guess is the m17x could become something like the m9700 when compared to the m9750 i.e it will still have mostly the same stuff but a new mobo and gpus ... otherwise they will loose ot to competition.
-
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Yo e fair they didn't talk about anything, mentioned two GPU's, Two HDD's and 1920x1200 screen but that's it so it's all to play for lol
OB -
-
-
Lol!.. nothing yet!!!.... I need the realease of the m17x now!
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
I was right, there is a 12 cell batt, but no smartbay batt???
-
yey!... than you!... lets analyze a bit and the post
-
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
There is you can order a spare 12 cell but no smartbay 6 cell option
-
oh ok, I guess I missed that.
However, I think the smartbay capability is limited only to extra HDD storage. If you check the video strip on the promo page and click the "Smart Bay" tab it only describes using another hard drive. -
Well, first impression.... its to freakin' sexy!!! and still more cheaper than the m1730... you can get:
Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8800M GTX – SLI Enabled
17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology – Black
Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme X9000 2.8GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 512MB
240GB (120GB x 2) 7,200RPM (8MB Cache)
