I still have them installed but have not worked on my M17x at all today. I'll be in front of it in about 45 minutes.

will do will run both 3dmark06 and vantage with no gpu oc again, mainly to see if i can still consistantly break 16k without the gpu oc as i was with the 186.24's.

Also of note not sure if you are aware there is a newer driver sweeper version out, 2.0 beta 2. I was using 1.5.5

My scores went way down in Crysis. These drivers aren't going to cut it.

i'm not sure why, my crysis scores stayed the same, i even currently have the natural enviroment mod installed for which makes it look even better than stock crysis @ very high, I installed 186.24 back to test more, i could not get the non quadro 186.18 drivers to work for somereason it would not install even with a modded inf the installer says no changes made.

i really do love the 186.24 drivers at stock gpu settings though, after reinstall of them just scored 16.2k with no gpu oc. If only can find a way to oc those drivers properly i think i could break the 17k barrier

That is exactly what i did do, it does seem to oc properly just not as high, before i was able to oc the core at 675, now max seems to be 660. 3dmark score still didn't improve too much but i have yet to up the mem and shaders to what i had before, right now i almost breaking 16.5k which my best before was 16,690 so i'm not to far off my best with these drivers. Important for me is the stock setting as these are great stock wise so will be the ones i use normally.

Have you done any GPU OC'ing?

What is you FSB/Memory speed set to in the BIOS and what does it read for memory latency?

From what I recall my FSB and memory are both at 1066 base> i have ONLY overclocked the CPU via fsb adjustment. I get the FSB up to about 1255 and that is about the max it will go. At 1260 I got a BSOD. yet to try Ocing my GPU's, worth it? granted they can get into low 80s when my CPU is overclocked and in highest settings on crysis after 30 mins. So..dont know if I want to up the temp anymore.

The biggest benefit with OC'ing the GPU is running benchmarks. For gaming our GPUs do a great job stock. Thanks for the info.

yes. my 9800m gtx single card maxes out any game excpet crysis.
and this is stock. it is foolish to constantly play games overclock esipally when one card can do the job maxed.

my 3870x2 also did the same maxed out. but it was almost at it's limits. (seeing with every test that i did. in my eyes)

yes that is what i ran into, i'm definately switching to it though once it is out for retail oc or not as by then i'd probably won't be messing with the oc anymore and just playin the games like this machine is meant to do.

Wow, that's kind of disappointing to hear. I hope there are improvements made to the final release of W7 that help with overclocking stability.

When I installed the RC of W7 on mine it wasn't on very long so I couldn't check it out very much. As soon as I saw that Window Blinds didn't work I removed it.

I know, pretty silly for some eye candy but I really like Window Blinds.

Has anyone noticed a difference between the 32bit and 64bit Vista with regards to the benchmarks and gaming?

    But way better performance,
    Way better memory management,
    Way better DPC management,
Way better support for XP applications (YEAH i can run games which use gammaramp without problems in W7 because of the virtualization and i can't in vista)

    :p

    Theres nothing to be improved.

If the kernel is more complex any instability will make more difference.

In XP i could get much higher clocked suicidal screens than in Vista and it's expected W7 to be more restrictive with instability's.

Just for example i could run my C2D at 4.2ghz in windows playing, encoding, etc but i can't even boot in FreeBSD ;)

i am now thinking and i can say that windows 7 and nvidia overclock is crap. i can't push my cards at all. i'm alittle mad. even with a little overclock i get a driver crash. but i love windows 7.

with my ati, vista was crap. it took my hours to install a stupid gpu driver. nothing works with ati and vista driver install. no matter what i did. but on win 7, it's different.

i'm going to search for better drivers.
    right now vista

i'm looking at 186.03 on nvidia's website but i'm looking for reviews. i'm ready to break 13,000

yeah i know what you mean. but the OS is so much faster it isn't even funny. used vista for about a week and compared to windows 7, it's like night and day. it's more friendly, faster and doesn't use alot of resources. but i can't overclock at all on it. (with nvidia this problem i have. my ati cards were better on it. )

i guess i'll dual boot :((i hate dual booting OS's.) and wait for nvidia to come out with better drivers.

99% of what i will do on it will be browsing the web and playing games/benchmarking so Win7 while better/faster is not going to bring anything to the table for me honestly . I have no SSDs and that would probably be the one thing that would make me want to use it over Vista.

i also do the same but i care about how the os handles. my start up time triples, when i log in, i can start using programs right away and alot more. i guess i'm being greedy.

i'll have to think about the pros and cons about this before a make a rash decision.

    realtek audio driver
    nod32
    nhancer
1 more program and that's it.

my hdd's defrag every night so it's also health. (always less then 1% of defragmentation.)

My Vista boots never take that long , i dont use a stop watch to compare them with Win7 and i know Win7 is faster but its not like im freaking out over the amount of time one takes vs the other.

If you had a netbook or something that is super portable and you needed it instantly on all the time then maybe i would understand but how often is you machine actually unplugged ? and your in need of an instant boot say in a car or somewhere else ?. Not like you whip the HAWG that is the 9262 while in your the bathroom or something lol.

i guess i'm impatient alittle. (not to much just alittle bit compared to the average person.) so i think i maybe able to reinstall vista and give it a second chance. if it isn't slow .

Why on earth are you ever reinstalling anything(i see you bring this up alot) ? Dont you use Acronis or the like for imaging your harddrives ? So you play around with Win7 for a couple days and decide you hate it just reimage your old OS and Bam!! your right back to where you left off etc.

i heard that you lose performance if you split your hdd(at least load time because) when the os is on one and the game is on the next.

Well ive never noticed it TBH and if you were to increase the load times i cant imagine it would be anything of significance .

As for game installs i rarely if ever have to reinstall games . 9/10 i copy paste the game folder over from my desktop to my laptops and only on a rare occasion will i have to reinstall the whole game again except for a few instances like GTA4 or Gears of war but even those can be worked around without having to do the full install again .

I don't know if that's true or not. I suppose it could be but I don't notice a difference.

I just like to keep my OS as clean and undisturbed as possible and have fast boot times.
