Maybe you weren't hitting a CPU bottleneck since it wasn't supporting CF for your 3870s?
Or maybe Mandrake's half cache on the P8700 is showing it's weakness.
-
-
I don't know what u guys r talking about (well i lost the last 60 pages :x) but i already did some comparisons between 3-6 cache 6-12 in desktops and the impact in games was inexpressive .
-
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.02.html is this what your talking about mandrake?
-
-
ahh i see, is it because thats the version that supports the gpus in the m17x?
-
Nope, just the version I'm using. I used 6.03 for a couple weeks also.
-
Following are some benchmarks of mine.
QX9300 OC @ 2.93Ghz, GPU @ stock, GPU driver 186.24
-
Nice, have you tried the DMC4 benchmark yet?
-
I am downloading DMC4 benchmark tool, will try it later.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
disable phsyx on vantage.
-
I don't think that make a difference with the GPU score does it?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well to get a real score it's won't effect your gpu score at all.
-
one last question for you mandrake, are you overclocking in the bios right, or your using that program to overclock?
-
-
yeah thought so, ill probably follow that same route then thanks, should be getting it this week ^_^
-
Mandrake what speeds do your P8600 and X9100 downclock to when you're running on the 65w from stealth mode?
I'm interested in knowing if the P8600 will keep a higher clock than the X9100 since it has a lower power consumption and doesn't need to downclock as much for the system to stay under 65w. -
The only difference I see with stealth mode is the switch to integrated graphics. When I bring up cpu-z the speeds look the same. I didn't try this with my P8700.
-
It looks like I will be receiving my unit, with luck, sometime this week. Just wanted to ask you all what the general consensus is on the best way to overclock the CPU, Ram(if possible, got 1333), and GPUs.
Also, when overclocking and working in stealth mode, what is the best way to achieve a specific power consumption without changing overclocks.
Last one. Anyone know if I throw in a qx9300 in the future in to replace my q9000 if that will void the warranty? Best place to buy a qx9300?
Sorry for the noobness of the questions, just want to be ready to go when my unit arrives. -

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
No I don't think so, but If there's a problem and you have to send it in make sure you replace the original processor before it's sent
-
But of you put back in the original you should be fine -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
compare it to mines
stock qx9300 3dmark06 cpu test.
here's 3.2
here's another 3.2
i think you should be in 4000. like 4,200
vantage qx9300 stocked
THIS IS FOR COMPARISION PURPOSE ONLY.
what are you running on your computer meanwhile. sorry i can't find my 3.07ghz test and i know i don't have any at 2.93 -
The CPU number fluctuates. I've seen 3900-4100s.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the thing with yours is your gpu scores are low for 3dmark06. but your vantage is ok.
-
-
06 is a joke please just let it die .
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol it's a good cpu test at least. during the cpu test, i saw my gpu downclock from extra to 3d.
-
Replacing parts in your system does not void your warranty. Maybe with AW it did, but definitely NOT with Dell
All Dell states is that any damage caused during the installation process won't be covered.
Basically, if you know what you are doing your fine.....
Trust me. I have been dealing with Dell systems for YEARS and there warranty support rocks.
Also, why do you think the service manuals are so easily accessed? Dell provides them because you are allowed to change parts and do not have to switch out parts before sending it in.
Most companies hide their service manuals but not Dell. -
Thanks for the input. Hope to have some postings next week with my systems scores.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what system specs did you get?
-
Anyone try the 190.15 drivers yet?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Nope you should probably get on that
-
I just tried them. Stable but not good for benchmarking.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
What were you getting on 3d Mark stock?
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I thought the previous drives were hitting around stock 16k 3d mark and 11k vantage so, these are not as good?
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Well when I'm done with my benchmarking... is it the 186.24 drivers that were best for normal usage? At least right now?
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Thanks Kcissem!

To answer dondadah88 question, my system specs are;
Q9000, 4gb 1333, Sli 280, 320gb 7200 rpm, WUXGA LCD, Blu Ray Burner, and so on. I plan to buy a QX9300 in time when they go down in price a bit.
Can't wait to get it, I am working with a frankenstein Inspiron 8600 that is just barely clinging to life. Brought this thing back from the brink eight times now. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea I got lucky and purchased right at the perfect time... Lowest prices at 400 for my QX9300... now the economy is going back up and demand is going up as well since the Qx9300 is being used in a variety of systems... and today was the highest day in the market for 6 months
-
i have a Q9200 coming and could not be happier for how much i had to spend
. If it works as it should i can hit 2.93ghz easy as pie and have spent much less then half of the Qx9300 as i got a real bargain and it is the QAVS revision IE the best one .
I wanted to be a guinea pig i decided for everyone else since if it works its going to be an awesome alternative to the Qx9300 since everyone seems to be stuck at 2.93ghz on the Qxs . Same 12megs of cache 2.4ghz vs 2.53 so .53 ghz and unlocked multipliers just like the Qx .
Just praying now it works as it should but i have little doubt it wont.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Oo man I have heard from quite a few people to stay away from the Q9200... is it a Qsajf or whatever? oh yeah you did get it... hmmm I have just heard not so great things... not to mention they never released that processor so there only exists ES versions... maybe there was a reason for that?
-
Nah ive actually heard great things about the Q9200 and the QAVR was the good ones and this is the QAVS which is the newest revision .
The reason they are not released from what others have gathered is intel didnt need 2 xtreme Core2quads so close together in performance ..
Oh and to be honest when getting ANY ES CPU be it a Qx9300 or any model there is always the chance of it being a bad overclocker or anything else for that matter. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Alright well you will have to tell me... we'll have a little CPU install get together lol... I hope you opted the right route... it may have been cheaper but we will see
-
Well i did it for 2 reasons honestly or maybe 3 lol
1. I was not going to spend $500 dollars on a Qx9300 ES i just didnt feel good about this at all.
2. People really want to know if the Q9200 will work as advertised like it does in other models so this is for the "GREATER GOOD" of the community
3. If i can get the same performance as the Qx9300 and save a few hundred dollars then im going to be one happy camper lol. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
"sniff" you are a truly couragous man, I salute you
remember though I had good timing and got mine for 400 shipped and all
