It's pretty much the same thing. The ATI cards do better with this test. I think someone got an average of 34 with everything maxed.

Moo, Mandrake has much higher benchmark scores. Can you update your thread to reflect those new M17X score by Mandrake?

if i oc my gpu and i start a crysis benchmark, i have some heavy slow downs(fps drop to 5fps from 25-30fps). No matter what clock i use. When i run on default, it works stabile without drops. Does somebody have the same problem or does it run smooth with you all with oc gpu?

Are you OC'ing the CPU also? If so I would try default on the CPU and OC on the GPU to see what it does.

Highest i have seen on a notebook was 34@very high by Johnkss , highest ATI score i saw was 29 by me . You guys should be hitting 36fps atleast(without overclocking the GPU) IMHO . Anothergeek said the reason John got such good scores were because he was using some old drivers IE 179 series i believe . i would have thought things would have gotten better for the game overtime interms of performance with newer sets of drivers but apparently not.

Johns best runs were with his GPUs overclocked but his overclocks were the default clocks of the 280s .

You should also disable any non-essential startup items as well prior to running your benches. Deep six Messenger, Steam, and all that other stuff. It wont make a huge difference, but you will gain a bit of an assist from not having those little apps running in the background.

Agree with Quad... Windows Search (what we used to call Indexing) can and should be disabled. Its just a waste of resources producing unecessary drive activity at the most undesirable moments. If you never search for a file from the desktop - you don't need it running. Kill it.

Speaking of all this talk about tweaking the OS for maximum performance, didn't johnkssss heavily modify keyword modify, not tweak his OS for benchmarking? IMO part (albeit small) of the reason many of his scores remain unbeaten to this day.

There is really only so much you can do to the OS itself to give you better graphics performance and thats mainly just eliminating stuff running in the background that might hog up CPU cycles etc.

Its gone for now technically :) . I got the m17 a week after the M17x and decided i didnt need both machines . I got the M17 with everything you see in it for such a good deal i couldnt pass it up . My original intentions were to just put everything in the M17x and then sell the M17 as barebones but someone close to me wanted my M17x so i decided to let it go for exactly what i paid for it so it was no loss to me . I still have the machine in my posession and its more then half paid off by said person and when i receive the rest of the money he will be getting it :) .

I loved the M17x for the record and will probably get another one when they release new cards for it is what im thinking currently but this M17 is kickin some but and i got rid of the stutter with the Qx9300 so im very content at the moment . Im working on getting the 4850s for it as well which was another reason i didnt need both of them.

Oh and i liked seeing them both in my sig as well lol but it had to come off of there :).
