I really cant blame what you did there man, the M17 is a beautiful machine, without quad stuttering I don't really see the point of having the M17x either considering the 280's are showing to be a bit of a let down. Good news indeed, perhaps you will come back to the darkside of ATI when they release the mythical 4870 DDR5 cards, they've all but become the 10th wonder of the world, and frankly I wouldnt be surprised if they never came out (loud internal sigh). Anyway sorry to hijack the thread guys, back to benchmarking :p

When you get the record I would expect all the tests to be run except the features test....otherwise won't count. ;)

Believe it or not the less I run the less stable the Vantage run becomes....a little strange.

Let down why? Much better than my previous cards which were 8800M GTX SLI.

I said a bit of a letdown, not a huge letdown at all. The stock perfomance of the 280's are just outstanding so far, but I have yet to see alot of gaming/3dmark benches done by johnksss and w90 owners being broken. I believe the record for a laptop vantage run is still with a 9800GTXSLI (not John) owner. I know you mightve thought u were but I think his was around 12.3k if I remember, I'll have to get a link.

No there's another vantage benchmark out there with a 9800GTX SLI owner, looking for a link now.

The only part that did not blow me away was the fact it was not much better if any compared to the W90 but are still very powerful . I maybe expected more then i should have out of the box . Thats exactly why i wasnt bummed out passing it on . the person getting it will beat on it till it gives him what he wants from it :)

The 280s are crushing the 9800GTXs in Vantage . Now i want to see that equate into other games like Crysis where it should be beating them there as well. I tried with crysis many times but could not get better results then john period. My best with heavily overclocked GPUs were 30fps and stock was 27ish.

wow maybe I'm still drunk from last night and dont know it? The score I was referring to was a total vantage score which had physx on...I take it back you are the record holder at this point. Going along with what Quad said I meant to aim my critique more toward the in game benches not being taken down by yet by the 280's.

quad he better beat it. I think you have 11,500 on it right? the only down fall of the w90 is the problems, voltage, and the clocks of the cards. the 3870 is clocked higher and I believe the also overclock higher with no voltage increase. otherwise it would of still been selling regardless of the 18.5(1920*1200), etc.

as for the 280m we all excepted it to slam everything in it's way which it did but not as much as we hoped.

It's just me that think the GTX280M must have been named as GTS250m ? S:
I when bought my m17x just thinked: 'Wow, a 280 mobile! It will run even my father on it', but it is not what i thinked.
Sorry for bad english, i am just a 15 year-old brazilian guy, so i don't know how to speak/write english pretty well.

I wish they would all rename there cards period ATI and Nvidia alike but i said this in another thread that Average joe consumer would not know what he is buying unless it had a familiar naming scheme behind it .

The 280s are great cards no doubt about it there just not desktop 280s which some are lead to believe like the Brazilian guy above .

It seems like I get better scores if Control panel>ease of access center>make it easier to focus on tasks>check box, "turn off all unnecessary animations(when possible) also control panel>performance information and tools>adjust visual effects>adjust for best performance.
