    They are 179.85 . . . should I update it to the 186.12 driver?

One other question for you guys - did your units arrive with Stealth mode on? It appeared to be on out of the box for me.

Up to you on the update Q Chaz... I guess its how you want to write it up - stock driver or current offer driver. To my knowledge and someone correct me if I am wrong, Dell has only posted the 186.12 aside from the 179.85.

Mandrake and his epic OCing results are probably the best way to answer that question... ;)

    Look forward to the review!

    3DMark06= ???...I honestly can't remember. I do remember getting good results with 630|1025|1575 w/qx9300

It's legit. I've gotten up to 16.8K without OC'ing the GPU.

Come on Chaz, get that machine clocked; you're doing it a disservice.
My M17 with an X9100 is running about 15.6 or so, without a GPU overclock, and AFAIK your machine should be easier to clock on both CPU and GPU :)
Not to mention you're running a quad and a higher overall spec!

I would agree.. It does get warm... Wish it was cooled better..

Mine didnt.. I plugged mine in before ever hitting the power button.. So I didnt have the issue with stealth mode on both systems.. Maybe lucky?

See the Screen. Device Manager tell me is a 186.24 Driver. GPU-Z says is a 186.12. Thats it what i mean. ;)

You have up to 16.8k without GPU OC with QX9300? You tweaked the nVidia Profile for 3DMark06?

I still think it's legit. GPU-z is just reading it differently.

No, I did nothing with the GPUs or 3D settings except turn off PhysX and turn on SLI.

really. wow. you better break 80fps average.when you pushed them. I was stock on the 3870 as well but my quad was pushed.

I had a lot of head room with my 9800m gtx. stock 500/1250/800=30fps average and then I believe 650/1650/930 was 41fps average.I could of pushed it aot higher then that but I didn't have the proper coolikng at the time.

i'l be looking forward to your results.

Lol - I wish I had the funds for a laptop like the M17x. I have owned two laptops in the last four years or so - my old Sager and my HP I bought last year.
I will - for now I am going to stick with the stock drivers to run benchmarks with, and then update the drivers and run the benchmarks again.
I know, I know - I'm going to do some CPU overclocking today. The Extreme CPU has the unlocked multipliers so it should be rather easy to OC. ;) We will see.

    Can't be bad :)
Its nice to see a little more competition in the UK atm, 4850 M17 (with decent CPU), Clevo variants and the M17x are all great performing laptops; hell I think mine has caught up with your SF4 score since the CPU upgrade, Pman :).
Am keeping an eye out for a programme that will let me clock and monitor my GPU temps too; the lack of overdrive functionality is a pain, nor do the normal programmes read the temps, which is a pain :)

Now all we need is a cheap SSD giveaway :D

You had parts already, that don't count, my total includes the upgrades, not a base unit which I then stuck a pre-owned QX processor in :p
What was your score with AA off 1920x1080?

Im not trying to be overtly competetive, I know by rights you have a stronger, more expensive laptop, I want to see how close I can get given the natural price difference (a 4850, 1920x1200 M17 base machine can be had for about £1300 now, I paid more because I got blu-ray, and then bought £350 of upgrades, looking around at Kobalt etc I'd be looking 2200+ for a similar base and upgrade path with your Clevo!)

Still slacking, Im on a dual core clocked but 300Mhz higher, and getting more points, you have a quad man, 06 loves the quad! :D

I wanna see the sweat dripping off it's forhead, scum! ;)

    @Pman
Very nice price on the QX, but yeah you get my point, your machine is more expensive, typically the QX is now £300-£400, and even with my X9100 you'd have been a few hundred more expensive; Im not arguing your system isn't nicer; it's also more expensive, and I couldn't justify the extra few hundreds :)

Nice SF4 score that actually, does SF4 make use of the extra 2 CPUs of your quad? I've noticed it seems exceptionally CPU limited from testing. Does it still perform the same with affinity set to 2 cores instead of 4?

Pman, just ran that at 1920x1080 and Im pushing 170fps. A bit lower than you but not that far off, if I can get some extra out of these GPUs at a later date, Im cooking so to speak, the M17 isn't the be all and end all, but its decent nonetheless. :)

don i clocked up my system to my normal marks 675/1040/1675 and scored 68fps so not a massive increase tbh

Alex, i havent dont much gaming with the cards/gpu clocked up, the game didnt make use of the 2 extra cores, so you prob scored higher then me due to the natively higher clock speed, if it used all 4 cores then i would hope to get well over 200

The review units are on loan for a specified period, usually from one week to one month. There is no option to buy them; they must be sent back.

Anyways, back on topic. I reduced my CPU OC to 11x/2.93GHz; I left the M17x alone for a while at 11.5x/3.06GHz and it unexpectedly shut down on me. I doubt there will be much of a performance difference between 2.93GHz and 3.06GHz, but I will run some benchmarks to test that anyway.

FSB overclocking....either by itself or combined with multi OC...using the M17x BIOS has been more stable than just multiplier overclocking.

What BIOS version did the NBR review laptop come with Chaz?

well that just answered yours and mines question.

i big no on the option to buy. i would have thought that if it was a production model, you would be able to do that...i can understand if it's a pre production model then of course...no.

    interesting...thanks for the info chaz!

I never had any luck at 3.06 chaz and some who reported they had it working eventually flaked out in some way and they dropped it to 2.93ghz . Mandrake on other hand can do 3.3ghz so its all over the map .

I imagine the review units get passed around to different sites so they dont have the option to buy them .

It also depends on how you OC it. I don't keep mine on 3.3 just bench otherwise it will BSOD on shut down. 3.25 is what I normally keep it on.

That's about where you should be at. With some OC you should get 10.5K-11K on the GPU.
