guys after searching for four days now and after 7 formats i found what was causing my sli configuration not to work. no it wasnt what i thought it was. it was just a software called tuneup utilities if you now. i used it to change my boot screen and stuff. after numerous efforts installing and uninstalling every software and trying benchmark06 i found the f.cking cause.
if someone wants to try, just for confirmation, just install tuneup utilities run benchmark06 and then uninstall it and try again. and only with the two gtx280s working in sli. somehow it didnt cause any problem when it was in hybrid sli. i would be pleased if someone could try that.
Mandrake can you spend a few minutes for this please? thanks

Well that's good to hear. What settings are people running with their 260's ?
Stock levels are:
550 Core Clock
950 Mem Clock
1350 Shader
Downloading 3dm06 to try it out. Right now. -
"TheMoo" got his clocks all the way up to 690|1065|1725 on his 260.
-
Drake, You think I should just ramp up to those levels? Or did 'Moo' do some other tricks to get that high?
-
I'll have to get back to you on this. Can't do it right now.
-
You can do test it that high just don't leave it like that. I ran my Vantage tests with those clocks.
-
Updated scores in my sig.

Geby
too bad 3dmark06 loves quads so much, 3.3ghz duo i think thats hot -

Well I finally retried all those combos for 3.2 with confirmation that 9400m was off. All failed. Will have new ram in machine next week, but I am not hopeful. Looks like I will lie somewhere in the 3.15-3.19 region (but not 3.2)
Not the end of the world, but a slight bummer -

here is an appetizer, this is with GPU stock, all the crap in original install of Vista, and CPU @ 3150 MHz
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=11720584
I will do a clean install (maybe win 7 - aint decided yet, suggestions?) and OC gpu, aiming for around 18k
update: and some vantage to match

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hey guys I finally got my M17x up to speed with windows 7... however I was running the dell beta drivers 186.12 before and started having problems... what other drivers would you recommend for gaming? I know of the Dox 186.24 and then the 190.38 drivers... however I didn't like the dox due to the impact on graphics
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
then use batboy's drivers
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Thanks Don... Now if you would be so kind as to point me in the right directions.. and maybe give me a nice 5 digit number
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate

Lol nevermind like he had said it is in the readme

I could grab a x9100 or a qx9300 anyday, but i dont see much of a diffrence.

Megacharge Custom User Title
Shirley has a T9900 ES that runs at 3.06 stock, and only uses 35w, I wonder how high someone could take that chip.
-
I have not this Problems with TuneUp Utilitys.
Modded Bios? -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I doubt he used a modded bios, the 260's over clock like champs without any aid, I had mine at 690/1725/1065 for benchmarking, but I keep them at 600/1500/1000 24/7. -
no and that WAS extreme
i only ran it @ that 1 time for my Vantage run.
MXM 3.0b GPU overclock better then the 2.1 variants
-
Where can I see my Version? Or what Version is the 260 and 280 in M17x?
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
did you try to change the bootscreen, logo screen and the other choice too? do it and then restart. then try benchmark06. -
Thats no Gimmiks for me. I used only Registry Cleaner, Defrag and so.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
this dont seem to cause any problem. if you want try what i said otherwise thanks for your help. changing the bootscreen or something else seems to be the cause as it changes windows default startup files .
EDIT: i also have windows vista ultimate sp2 with oem alienware activation. and i think no one else has installed this one. and benchmark differences may be due to this too. -
I'm surprised you didn't lose performance at those speeds.
looking good...start pushing those GPUs.
The slots in our system is the latest and greatest. -
Here's my first run with my QX9300.
LINK -
yeh just slightly below mine, think i have good cards, just cant get the cpu high enough
-
just out of interest try clocking your cpu to 2.8ghz and run vantage on same gpu score, see how much it drops by, if nay
-
As soon as I beat your score.
-
oh leave me alone took me ages to get that score lol
-
But you instigating it with that sig of yours...lol
-
only seeing as you pointed it out, get back to your x9100
-
I haven't even decided which CPU I'm keeping. I like both.
-
well i was contemplating getting the X9100 instead of the Qx9300 but i dont know tbh
i want an unlocked bios  -
Well, I got my qx9300 in today.. no big issues.. went lots easier than I anticipated which is good.. So far multi only stable up to 10.5 with stock fsb/mem in bios... trying mulple combos right now with clock and fsb... highest OC so far is 2.897 - 2.9...
Every time i try to do a 1:2 ratio i get BS when vista boots(1-2 min)
I got lots of testing to do to try and find best combo.. at 9.5 multi seems like a 1220 - 1225 fsb is the highest i can go before bs
If i touch mem settings in bios I get guaranteed BSOD.
Wondering if Ram is holding me back.. I know i couldn't get as high of an OC on this system compared to my first one... -
Here you go. LINK
Now you can delete that sig of yours.
-
kilthro,
What happened to the Q9000 benchmarks?
-
Well my morning plans got blown by the wife.. Some last minute crap came up.. So when I had a free moment (not long one) I threw in the new chip.. I really wanted to get that in there so I could use over the week as I dont get much time during the week to do this kind of stuff...
Sorry... I wanted to get some done before the upgrade but life *cough* my wife *cough* threw a curve ball at me... My higher priority was to install the proc -
Haha, not a big deal.
I'd give you rep if I knew how to/could. -
How's my benchmark?

bah i give up clocking this machine, cant do naff all with a 2.8ghz quad
give in, well done
-
Thanks and I don't believe "i give up clocking this machine" for a minute.
By the way ran my FSB and Memory at 1066 for that run and had my multiplier at 12. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well got the 1333 ram in and redid all those OC's again....(several combinations of multi and FSB to achieve 3.2 for those wondering) all still unstable
I will play around with maximum OC if I can find the time, but so far 3.15 it is for me
Will now play around with my GPU's some
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Ok 3.15 isn't bad though.
