how are you all verifying your GPU OC? are you just going by whether or not the driver crashes? or by whether you see artifacting or not?

I just tried 650/1050/1625 (conservative according to the clocks done by mandrake and Moo) and ran OCCT GPU test and got a bunch of errors although the driver never crashed.

This is working off of my philosophy that an OC doesn't mean anything if it is not 101% rock solid stable. And I am not going to run or post any scores obtained off of an OC that does not meet my criteria. So I am curious what constitutes stability for a GPU OC.

that's to high without overvolting. what program did you use?

just using the NST through driver

there is a drop down for voltage but it is greyed out :( maybe a VBIOS tweak to change this? haha

So can I assume that both Moo and Mandrake got this clocks by flashing their VBIOS and making the voltage higher?

Mandrake said he never overvolted to hit his last record . Not sure about the new one though ;)

i think he did. there was a 260m thread with flashing it. but i think that was to get the extra sp out of the 260m.

Scook9 those insane runs are meant for numbers only not for OCCT stability as they would never survive those kinds of numbers over any long period of time.

    Hi

I have around 9500 on default settings (trial version) of 3d mark vantage, around 8800 gpu score and around 11000 cpu score, This is with overclocked qx9300 to 2.93, default nvidia driver 179.85, dual gtx 260m, enabled hybrid sli and 9400m, are these scores Ok or should I expect more?
Also I've noticed that if I disable hybrid sli and 9400m in bios, and i try to play a movie (divx file) blue screen appears and system restarts

Would be gratefull for any response

I don't keep my GPUs OC'ed. Fallout 3 runs just fine with stock 280s. ;)

So what constitutes stability for me is if I can complete the benchmark. I only ran OCCT against my GPUs at stock to check the temps. My highest "stable" clocks are 690|1065|1725. Moo claims even higher with his single 260.

Nice run, looks like we have some similar "tinkering" settings since I scored 11910 with my quad. The M980 hasn't broken 11.9K yet.

grr i was 3 points away from breaking 11.9k

I tried a slightly different tac and again score 11.8 all day long grr...need more grunt...

The cards arent even getting close to overheating, never breaking more then 72 degrees.

What was quads score as i cant see pictures while i am at work :p

nothing yet, someone "reportedly" had it on NBR but has never proved it.

I think Clevo really missed a trick by not unlocking it, Moo confirmed that the option is there, its just disabled

With the size of that system I can only assume the cooling is better. You should have blown away my score by now.

the cooling is wicked cpu at 2.8 under full load never breaches mid 60's

gpu i cant get to run above 685/1070/1700 i can get the core to 690 but have to leave everything else at stock or it boinks out

    maybe W7 holds the key?

I tried those tweaks we talked about as well, perhaps putting it on an SSD and using Win7 might do it.

but im convinced the fsb/mutli ratio is killing me, i got my highest scores on my white book by doing the multu high and fsb low.

    oh i dunno...

I tried Win7 for a small period of time and it didn't help me. I also tried 12x1066 and got very similar results. My 06 scores are about 200 points higher going with 10x1280/1280 for comparison. Didn't see a difference with Vantage.

That run was 680/1060/1680 when hit that. it was so late i was gonna keep going but i passed out :) . Ill give it a go some more today.

I can not get my CPU past 2.93 for the life of me though that much is certain, so 06 aint happening :(. i once again tried every conceivable FSB/MEM/Multi there is and nada. Same CPU runs all day long at 3.2 in my M17 /shrug .

Max temp on the GPU's after 4 runs of the GPU portion of Vantage were 76/71 on the GPUs with just the back propped up.

I installed my System new. This week comes the Final Benches. Let me surprise. :) I hope i break in Vantage the 11.9k (best 11.816) and Mark06 the 17k (best 16664).

My QX runs very fine. My GPU makes not your rates. I must try it again.

Nah the person buying it is paying me off over a period of time and hes 2/3s there so him and i talked and originally it was just sitting in the closet all boxed up but i was a tad bored and in the tinkering mood again so i told him i wanted to give it another crack till its paid up. Said person is going to be finished around the end of october so its quite sometime for it to gather dust in the closet and it was calling my name while i was sleeping so i had to bring it out for some air.

Seems like everything beyond 680/1080/1680 i get the display driver stopped responding . I have lowered the mem and raised the core/shader by 10 or 5 and still the same thing . So not sure whats up on that end.

I loaded Win7 last night when i took it out of the box but lost my wireless signal and it couldnt find my router except at boot then it would dissapear and my keyboard lights went out and the option was not even available in the command center either so i said to heck with it and just went back to the factory image.

having some trouble with flashing my vbios :(

nvflash -6 -5 -4 -A -y -i0 GTX280m.rom clearly gives an error asking if i want to flash the gtx280m bios over the 9400m, so that means -i0 is the integrated

but trying -i1 and -i2 both say invalid bus or adapter or something like that

what is the full nvflash command being used to flash the discrete cards vbios for SLI setups (3 gpus)

    thanks

Soviet Sunrise helped Moo awhile back trying to figure out how to flash the GPUs so i know theres a thread floating around somewhere with all the info in it . Moo only has one Discrete GPU but all the info should still apply to 2.

yeah, they said the same thing about me...then don and well...now look...everyone is benching... :D
quad told me that very same thing a while back. now it has come full circle... :D

wireless is in powersaver mode and for testing...you only need to have the base drivers in stalled. vantage allows for you to run and save the bench for submitting it later or screen shot it then save it for later to post. best to use win7 32 bit to get the whole thing just a bout working out of the box. and all the vista drivers should work. from all my testing...they all worked for 32 bit version...64 bit was a bit more tring.

so I go the flash done, was pretty straight forward

650/1050/1625 and 1.03V are what I got them set to now. I will push further later

Just had to disable the integrated, then the -iX (0 or 1) worked fine

kind of busy right now, but a teaser for what is to come

This is NO tweaks and a dirty (the original) OS install. Next week I will clean it up push GPU further push CPU further and crank out some runs.

would explain how to bump it up to 1.05, but that ain't really an easy task and there is no guarantee that it works on the 280's..

hummm, upload the vbios here so i can check it out.

Strange, because with the MXM 2.1 cards, you can bump the voltage from 1v to 1.05v. However, even at 1.05v, my card generally sucks at overclocking. I can't even get 3dmark06 to run anymore at 650/1625, lame.

guys...when you over volt to what's in the bios. your not coming anywhere close to the max voltage for the card. they aren't about to let you accidentally send to much voltage to the card. for that to happen..you would need a min. of 1.1 or higher. everything is based on how cool you can keep the gpus while benching. if you can keep them below 60'c you can bench at a voltage of 1.1 to about 1.188.(speculation on the cards max voltage)

hmmm, I am interested in how to unlock that higher voltage

is is a software/BIOS trick or is it a hardware mod?

I am open to any software/BIOS stuff you want to try, but lack the balls for a hardware mod
